I'm afraid to say that the majority of people out there are just easily-amused sheep who make no particular demands of their "entertainment", just letting it wash over them not really making any kind of actual engagement with it on a deeper or more critical level..... -_-

Not really... I dont regard those as "Easy Listening" in that sense.... Even the most "chilled" Ambient music evokes a mood and atmosphere, it does "break on through to the other side", just in a different way. There is a spiritual dimension to it; the likes of Air, The Orb, and the others you mentioned do tap into something on another level that Cliff and Phil simply DONT... Hence why they are "easy listening sh!te" and the others aren't....
