Posted April 28, 200817 yr often known for the pretty awful 'puppet on a string' this 60's iconic songstress also had a run of good hits (right into the 80's with the smiths 'hand in glove...excellant) but this little gem is my fav... run 1966 6XfYBHZxZSI
April 28, 200817 yr I really like Puppet on a String :yahoo: Infact i was listening to it yesterday
April 28, 200817 yr my mum used to have the Puppet On A String album on Pye records - I like some of the songs on there. Tell the Boys, Had A Dream Last Night, Think Sometimes About Me and Stop Before You Start were great songs. Good old Wiki - there's a page there about the album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppet_on_a_String I also like "(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me", one of two other number ones she had (along with Long Live Love). April 30, 200817 yr She did do a rock album in 1969 called Reviewing the Situation which had covers of Sympathy for the Devil and Your Time is Gonna Come on it. Not a bad album actually.
May 1, 200817 yr I was in love with her way back then along with RSG's Cathy McGowan. I have all her singles up to Rose Garden. For me in the 60s Sandie could do no wrong except for Puppet On A String. But my faves have to be: Message Understood I'll Stop At Nothing Today Think Sometimes About Me Nothing Comes Easy

May 2, 200817 yr She was kinda quaint in the 60s.... but Sandie Shaw's finest moment was undoubtedly Hand In Glove - a colossal record.... and that Top of the Pops appearance. Fabulous. Worth checking is her 'Nothing Less Than Brilliant' album - each and every track a winner.
May 2, 200817 yr Not a huge Sandie fan, liked a few but don't really remember a lot of her stuff As Long As You're Happy Baby" "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" ....This one I remember, and I liked it "Girl Don't Come" "I'll Stop at Nothing" "Long Live Love".....vaguely remember this one "Message Understood" "How Can You Tell" "Tomorrow" "Nothing Comes Easy" "Run".... "Think Sometimes About Me" "I Don't Need Anything" "Puppet on a String"......how can I not remember this one  "Tonight in Tokyo" "You've Not Changed" "Today" "Don't Run Away" "Show Me" "Together" "Those Were the Days" "Monsieur Dupont",,,,can remember this one too "Think It All Over" "Heaven Knows I'm Missing Him Now" "By Tomorrow" "Wight Is Wight" "Rose Garden" "Show Your Face" "Where Did They Go "Father And Son" "One More Night" "Just a Disillusion" "Anyone Who Had a Heart" "Wish I Was" "Hand in Glove"...............Liked this a lot :yahoo: "Are You Ready to Be Heartbroken" "Frederick" "Please Help the Cause Against Loneliness" "Nothing Less Than Brilliant"
May 3, 200817 yr Of her 1960s material "Girl Don't Come" is my personal favourite. But no question her best single (& I bought it on 7" vinyl  ) is.... fmugzUxSdj0 Sandie Shaw & The Smiths - Hand In Glove (1984)
May 4, 200817 yr Author Of her 1960s material "Girl Don't Come" is my personal favourite. But no question her best single (& I bought it on 7" vinyl  ) is.... fmugzUxSdj0 Sandie Shaw & The Smiths - Hand In Glove (1984) whilst i agree the 'hand in glove' was her best single...it was so long after her 60's peak that its like its almost by a different artist. its indie, and im not sure i can compare it to her 60's material (which for me is heavily steeped in nostalgia). 'run' is my fav. i think a personal nostalgia element to any track can elevate it in a list of 'favs' beyond where it should be if you are only considering musical competancy (?) (know what i mean?)
May 11, 200817 yr I like her 3 UK No.1's, plus 'Girl Don't Come', 'I'll Stop At Nothing', 'Message Understood, 'Monsieur Dupont', & 'Tonight In Tokyo'. 'It's Not Unusual' was actually written for her, but she turned it down. Tom Jones recorded it instead, & had a 1965 No.1 with it. She had her 3 UK No.1 Singles between 1964 & 1967. Believe it or not, only ONE BRITISH Solo Female has had as many as 3 UK No.1 Singles since then - only 1 that I can think of, anyhow. It is Geri Halliwell - who had 4 No.1 Singles. But, Solo Female Acts have been much bigger since the 1960's, & Madonna is on 13 No.1 Singles, & Kylie is on 7 - counting her early 1989 No.1 with Jason Donovan - 'Especially For You'.
