The biggest employment dispute/sex discrimination claim is to be launched against Hitachi UK by a transexual peorson who was demoted from a top level IT job after she became a woman.

 

She had come over from America as she though the United Kingdom was more tolerant. In her town in the USA another person with gender dysphoria (who also became a woman) was set on fire and murdered.

 

So do you think Transexuals still thought of as freaks by the general public? is the UK tolerant, or do you think the demotion was due to other things?

To be honest, yeah I do think they are percieved like that. it does seem odd that someone needs an operation because they are trapped in the wrong gender. It probably makes people feel uncomfortable around them as well.

 

Still, I suppose in a way they have been accepted as nadia won BB a few years ago, which may show a level of tolerance.

its a condition called gender dysphoria. think its like you've got the wrong body and you know it

The UK doesn't seems tolerant. In some way the US is more so, although it seems there is massive variations from place to place.

Nadia certainly helps and most companies do in thoery at least treat all people equally. I'd say it's more of a disadvantage to be a women them be of a different race. Also being old can be a problem, but I guess really the workplace changes as society changes.

I have a friend who had a sex change and she says it was just knowing that she was in the wrong body from a small child, and, like any operation your body needs - she had to have the sex change, it simply wasn't a 'choice'.

Yeah i reckon it still is, i hear people around school calling eachother transexuals and taking the p*** out of them.
