I'm sorry I was rude when I saw the OP. You were not to know how strongly I feel about the dismissal of Darius on the basis that he's just cannon fodder from reality TV so must be talentless and a muppet who churns stuff out. Nothing could be further from the truth.

 

As for posting in other forums, I have no interest in the chart forums at all and rarely post there on any site. Statistics mean nothing to me.

 

I do not rate music by how many sheep went out to buy it because the promotion campaign was so huge (Crazy Frog for example) or the artist is hyped up to be the next greatest thing (eg The Darkness) or radio/TV is shoving it down our throats at every turn or which album has all/most of those plus a massive reduction in the supermarkets that week.

 

I think someone like Darius who can get to no.7 from one week at 98 in the airplay charts is far more successful than someone who gets top 5 from several weeks in the top ten of the airplay chart. There is no information attached to any record in the chart to reflect the promotion and marketing it has been given. If places were proportionate to hype and/or airplay, the charts might look very different.

 

Darius never gets any credit as a songwriter. He's dismissed by most people on here as manufactured because he happened to be involved in PI, yet he has never released a cover, anyone else's composition or any samples on his a-side singles. How many other much heralded and awarded male solo artists have first writing credit on 5 top ten hits from only 6 releases?

 

He's had a song used in a film soundtrack and one on an american artist's album. If it was anyone else you'd have heard about it but the media seem to prefer to bury positive things about Darius and concentrate on his love life or throwaway snide jokes usually referring back to Popstars or reality TV.

 

At the time, your OP appeared to be more of a red rag than an olive branch I'm afraid but I do now understand that your intentions were good. Perhaps it's time for me to do as Darius did on Live Twice and release a white dove of peace.

Colourblind got 128 points in total - a lot less than he would have had if so many of us hadn't been sickened by the reaction to the other vote - and came in 241st from the 303 no 1s in the poll. It would be interesting to work out where he should have come if those who voted in thisispop's vote had voted in this. Somewhere in the top 100, I should think.

 

I'm bracing myself for all the expected attacks from those comparing the two votes.
