thats largely nonsense, there been very little personal attacks on this thread. there is some truth in the fact that 'us oldies' dont respect your views though. because like it or not, you aint equal! you are debating here with people who have been part of and witnesed the evolution of popular music since the 60's... so accept it or not, our perspective aint the same as some spotty kids! :P lol.. the overriding message here that us oldies are saying is that the shyte-adays are p*** poor, they are confetti.. cheap, pretty, pop puppets that offer nothing then a shallow 3 minute no brainer.. ok that sort of music does have its place, but music ... real music offers so much more. thats why ive been saying 'dont think they are something they arnt'..

the 'negetivity' you talk off is what id call realism, dont believe the hype, see them for what they are and not as some new supergroup.. because they will never be anything more then a unit shifting production line.

What nonsense. You think because you "witnessed the revolution" ( ) you have the right to say what's is good and what is not?

If this whole process (that has taken 40 odd years according to you) has left you with such knowledge of the music industry, why haven't you pursued a career in it?

Apart from this whole revolution sh!t, what actually qualifies you to state all of the negativeness, about The Saturdays, as fact?

Just because you are older than a lot of us, it doesn't mean you have "better tastes" or, of course, actually know what you're talking about.

If anything, witnessing such a thing has left the people who have witnessed it, rather jaded.

Well what would be the point in this thread if it was just full of people going:

"this song is good"

"yay i love the saturdays"

etc.

Where would the thread go and what would be the point of it? I'm sick and tired of anything sung by a female being treated as some kind of revolution tbh -_- But am I trying to change your opinion about them saying that? No! I'm putting my point across and you put your point across and then the thread creates debate etc. Btw I'm a erm.. 'youngie' :P

Saying that though I heard a clip of 'Up' on popjustice and it's MILES better than this imo. But right now Girls Aloud just p*** all over these lot so much I just don't get what the fuss is all about on here. They're just another girl group that just doesn't stand out from the rest and that's just what I think and I don't slag people off about 'negativity' and 'arguing' in threads from band I like do I? The times when you do 'argue' back on something is if someone say a 'FACT' that is wrong like for example in the McFly thread someone said McFly don't write much of their own songs so I made a comment they wrote all of them!

I kinda wish there was a pop act like this I liked but they just don't do anything for me.. sorry :(

The main point still is though how ridiculous it is that they get called 'the new Spice Girls, Girls Aloud, Sugababes' etc when their material clearly doesn't match up to their standards.

They could of at least of used a sample in a good way like 'Sugababes - Freak Like Me' which is a brilliant example of pop.

No-ones going to look back in a few years time and remember them (or a few months even).

If they do manage to reach the top 10 it will be an outrage as songs which are SO much better and original continue to flop.

Anything lower than 5# or 6# will be a flop after the amount of promotion/money.

Who are you to tell us not to 'believe the hype'?! We've formed our own opinions. I don't say 'Ooh, Radio 1 are playing this and Popjustice like it so it MUST be good. I like it too!'. I like the songs I've heard and can freely admit they're manufactured and lack artistry - but then that is exactly what Girls Aloud were at their career stage. I can also admit not every song sounds that good (Keep Her sounds c**p actually) but I do happen to love If This Is Love and Set Me Off - both just great pop songs. That's my opinion, and no amount of slagging off the use of the sample in ITIL is going to change that.

And there have been personal attacks, although not from you because you're largely good at keeping things on-topic, but I can't say the same for everyone...

And really, even if they are just 'pop puppets' (though that's debatable - they do write their own lyrics, which is more than can be said for other popstars who get the 'puppet' accusation, such as Rachel Stevens) why should that stop anybody from enjoying them to the fullest? It's brilliant to enjoy musical artists who write, produce, sing excellently, have a real sense of artistry - but good old-fashioned pure pop shouldn't be overlooked either.

just an old bugger whos seen all this so many times before..

girls aloud werent much better initially, but they tapped into a market and girls aloud are good pop. but non of us oldies think (from experience) that ifil is in the same league as 'sound of the underground' or 'overload', as we have pointed out. i too have suggested that 'one step closer' was also a better debut.

ive never said that you shouldnt enjoy their music, but i did say dont believe its something it aint. it is confetti pop, disposable, ok for a three minute 'fix' of good feelings, but trust me... in 'x' number of years time youll be agreeing with me! as the appeal of these 'confetti' tracks is limited.

ive had this discussion with kelz in the past regarding rachel stevens, she IS supposed to have writen her material, or some of it. however, being the cynic i am id suggest that she merely endorsed the lyrics as oposed to sitting donw and composing them. id suggest that something similar is true of the saturdays, that they were at best partly 'in' on the composition.

anyway... ive been wrong before, and time may yet prove me wrong about the shyte-adays, but its a pretty safe bet to suggest that they will not be around long. personally i dont care, if they produce a string of decent singles (ala sugababes, girls aloud) then so be it, but us cynical oldies dont see this happening. (but i for one didnt think girls aloud would be around long... )

another well balanced opinion :) well said.

how many teenagers have i met with opinions like this?...

im trying hard here not to go into a rant/history lesson..

pop music as we know it has its roots firmly in the early 60's with the beatles kicking it off... i vaguely remember that. i have personally been interested in pop music since the mid 60's to date... but am i musical? am i fuk! its nonsensicle to suggest i should persue a career in music. my knowlege is first hand, so ive seen what is going to be big and what is not

you STILL <_< go on about 'negativity'... IT AINT A SATURDAYS LOVE IN, ITS A DISCUSSION FOR PEOPLE TO AIR THEIR THOUGHTS ON WHAT IS BEING HYPED AS THE NEXT BIG THING.

that means that people are free to air views both for and against this product..ffs... basic understanding..

it isnt negative, its REALISTIC.

i didnt claim to have 'better tastes', just pointing out that theres MORE to music then these confetti pop, three minute, shallow, no-brainers.

an intelligent person would take on both sides of the argument and maybe listen to experience, because one day ill wager youll find youself in agreement.

not jaded, cynical maybe, why?... because (again, hope it sinks in this time) we have seen it all before.... id suggest that 19/20 times these 'next big things' sink without trace. will the shyte-adays be around in 3 years time?... lol.. nah..

Where would the thread go and what would be the point of it?

And the point of your argument is?

It's not about everyone saying that they love them. But every time someone says something good about them, 3 bad things get said about them...

So what's the point in that?

But am I trying to change your opinion about them saying that? No!

and I don't slag people off about 'negativity' and 'arguing' in threads from band I like do I?

Oh, I'm sorry. Did someone make a comment that you were?!

I kinda wish there was a pop act like this I liked but they just don't do anything for me.. sorry :(

Nobody said you had to love them?

People keeps ranting "you don't get what debate is about" etc.

Sometimes, you just like to come on the boards and say how much you really like a song...

It irritates me how some people think it's OK for 1000 bad words to be said about the song, because they don't like it, but when someone says 1 good word about the song, it's "they're sh!t", "You know nothing, I'm superior because I was born in the 60's"

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

My posts aren't about changing your opinions, it's about me being able to express mine freely without having to have a debate with someone about what I like.

I shouldn't have to justify my reason for liking a song/band to anyone.

At the same time, I understand that you shouldn't have to stop posting negative comments about them, but when my post is being quoted and mocked for saying something good about them, then that needs to stop.

that means that people are free to air views both for and against this product..ffs... basic understanding..

YES!

So why are people being mocked and goaded into arguing for liking them.

If you don't like them... fair enough.

But to continuously call them names and make appauling opinions on them after one single is not what a debate is about.

You're basically just trashing them more and more to get a reaction out of fans like myself and a few others on here.

It's sad, if you ask me, that you have nothing better to do than argue with "teenagers".

And by the looks of it, you do it quite a lot.

You made that clear with the "how many times have I heard a teenager say that?" comment.

The Saturdays are not aimed at you. You're not supposed to like them.

It's a bonus if you do, but I'm sure the record company aren't going to split hairs if they discover that a few individuals, who are old enough to be the band members parents, don't like them.

This is going too far now, because it's one thing to not like a song, but it's been going on for over a fortnight.

If I don't like a song, I want nothing to do with it. I don't want to be constantly reminded about it.

So why must some people insist on coming back to a thread to argue that they don't like a girlband?

It's just stupid.

It's a very S Club sounding song isn't it? I think they'll go easily top 5 as all the GA fans will be buying it I'm sure and that's surely been the plan from the outset, to get the GA fanbase on board before the girls decide to call it a day for a while.

thats not true... the majority of posts on this thread are pro-saturdays, some are almost fanatical, most are cool. to suggest one pro post gets 1000 bad replies is utter sh1t.

if all you want to do is come here and say you like them... do so then f off! why get into a debate if you dont want too?...

superior?... well dont you think that someone whos followed music for 40 years just might have a superior knowlege of music ?.. that isnt 'my taste' is superior, just the fact that i and others have followed music longer OF COURSE suggests that i/we possibly have a better take on whats what!

the saturdays are being held up as 'the next best thing'... us oldies have seen it all before and so when we see this we treat it with mirth, ok, it might not be fair in some cases to riddicule opinions of the young who appear to be taken in by the hype.

i was wondering how long it would be before the ageist comments would come <_< , lose the argument and resort to personal insults... <_<. i argue with teenagers mainly because im their DAD. and teenagers like music.

the saturdays are aimed at anyone who buys their music... and dont forget, the people in control are people MY age... cowell, fuller, walsh...

and again, its astonishing that you dont seem to understand the concept of a forum... and why people are members here..

i was wondering how long it would be before the ageist comments would come

It's a two way street, Mister. ;)

Oh and the argument is not lost.

You think because you have 40 years on me, you automatically win?

Not a chance.

... sigh....

im not trying to 'win'... theres nothing to 'win', its about expressing a view, and being able to support it. i can support my view on the saturdays with over 40 years of experience, that does not automatically make me right, or any other 'oldie' right. but, it does count for something .... it aint rocket science to understand that!

You're the one that mentioned losing, it's not rocket science to work out that you meant that you'd won.

And the only thing that is different between myself and the "oldies" is dates of birth.

You're not better or smarter because you're older.

You acting pompous proves that.

i did not mention losing!!!! ffs...

and im smart enough to know where the sample came from and what a good artiste alison moyet is! :P, oh but you are as 'smart' arnt you!

ok you win <_< .

People dont need a seal of approval on their opinion whether its good or bad, thats the main point here. Dont pick on people's opinion all the time, let them express it without being mocked and then dont jump on top of people just because they have the same opinion as you ... its kind of patronising.

No im really not failing. Thats MY and MY opinion only and im sticking to it.

lose the argument and resort to personal insults...

Pretty sure that says "lose", but never mind...
