Kooks star Luke Pritchard has claimed he kicked Alex Turner in the face when they played a gig together.

The singer described Turner's band as "quite arrogant" and admitted that his group had never got on well with the Sheffield rockers.

"We've had a weird relationship with the Arctics since we first met," Pritchard told The Mirror.

"I had to kick Alex in the face because he was trying to pull the leads out of my guitar pedals while we were on stage. We had done so many shows back to back with them, and it just escalated."

He added: "I saw them recently in a studio and tried to patch things up. I asked Alex if he wanted to have a bit of a jam in the studio, but he just turned his back and walked away."

Pritchard also mocked Turner for dating T4 presenter Alexa Chung, arguing that it was helping her career more than the musician's.

"Alex has a famous girlfriend, but I don't think that helps him," he said. "He was big before Alexa came along.

"If anything it has probably helped her more. If you fall in love, you fall in love. Whatever."

I've known for a while that the Arctic Monkeys don't like The Kooks, but I don't believe Pritchard's comments that the Monkeys are arrogant. I just think they don't like The Kooks and how they've got into the music industry as they've sort of cheated in a sense by going to the Brit school whereas Alex etc. had to slug it out with a completely different upbringing and a completely different way to get into the music industry, whereas The Kooks really got it all handed to them on a plate.

Arctic Monkeys come across as VERY arrogant to me, whether they actually are or it's just their "thing" I don't know. I could easily believe what Mr Kooks Man has said about them. Then again, they're all young boys and they've both been huge, so it could just be a competitive thing.

I think it's just the way they come across. They don't like the limelight, so I guess in a way they do it on purpose as they don't like it. But I don't believe they're arrogant at all. They're normally very complimentaty about a lot of bands, but you only have to look at the whole incident at the BRITs to see that they don't like people who've had it all handed to them on a plate.

another funny story about the monkeys...

the Enemy & the kooKs...oh well...

what do they have in common?

they are two c**p bands n they are gonna stay 2 c**p bands n people after a few years will remember(?) 2 c**p bands ...n that s it...

I think both The Enemy and The Kooks will be remembered for a while yet, but all of the members in the band are all of a similar age group and addmittedly they ALL can be a bit inmature at times. If Alex (or anyone form Arctic Monkeys for that matter) wanted to slag off The Enemy or The Kooks in public then they could rightly go and do it, but they've not.

They're all in the same businesses but it doesn't all mean they have to like each other. I'm not sure where this hate for The Enemy from either party has come through but I can certainly see The Kooks hate. They're all rich, middle class kids who got their record deal handed to them on a plate and probably wanted to make friends with the Monkeys (Pritchard can come across as a t*** at times) and I just think the Monkeys don't like them purely because of they're background and stuff as both of the bands cultures and completely different and they've both got to where they are at this present moment in time for entirely different reasons.

Exactly! I think they're just jealous because Arctic Monkeys are a band who are genuinely in for the music and don't pretend to be things they're not unlike The Kooks AND The Enemy, Luke Pritchard puts on that really stupid northern accent when he's from BRIGHTON  and of course Tom Clarke spouting c**p about being 'working class' in his big house and thinks he speaks for them all when he's probably never worked in his life and if he did like in some interview slagging them off once said it's probably six months in Carphone Warehouse.

Arctics are the current target as they're one of the most critically acclaimed bands around for bands who clearly know they'll never be as good as them to try and make up for it by slagging them off.

But maybe Alex tried to disconnect Luke's guitar pedals in revenge for THIS:

The worst thing I've heard in my life :(

I've heard worse things, but I do agree at times it's painful to listen to. He can't hit those high notes!

Well tbh I am a huuge fan of The Kooks and I like The Enemy and Arctic Monkeys too. I just think that it's a competative thing. And anyone who says that The Kooks aren't talented are ridiculously wrong because I'm pretty sure most people couldn't do what they do. Their songs are immaculate, and unique along with Lukes' vocals, their performances are always amazing and I've never seen anyone hold an audience quite how they do. So what if they went to BRIT school, that doesn't mean they haven't worked for it and that they don't want it as much as any other! I personally can't see where anyone has got such bias views from. All of these bands mentioned are incredible and if they weren't then none of us would be speaking about them or know about them now.

I wouldn't say the Kooks hold an audience better than anybody else, when they performed their new songs at Glastonbury the audience didn't seem that impressed to be honest

I like both but imo the Arctic Monkeys are way more talented

I don't think that The Kooks aren't talented. If they weren't talented then they wouldn't have got into BRIT school. But the problem with that is it made everything a lot easier for them, they knew the right people, could get decent gigs etc. and there's nothing like this in the north of England which is probably why the Arctic Monkeys don't think so highly of them. I like both bands, although admittedly I do like Arctic Monkeys a lot more then The Kooks.

Just as a slightly O/T comment (as I was reading the thread anyway), friends of mine saw Alex and Alexa in a pub the other day and didn't even know who they were :manson: I would've gone to get an autograph -_- I've been waiting to bump into the Arctics ever since I came here

That is all.

Afterwards, backstage, Pritchard strums a guitar and sings Arctic Monkeys’ Despair in the Departure Lounge. It’s the maudlin crystallisation of what it is to be on the road with a band, but with your thoughts elsewhere. Does he not enjoy touring?

.,,

Before getting taxis to Little Tokyo, a Japanese restaurant, they rattle through the same Arctic Monkeys song Pritchard played the previous night. It’s an interesting choice. The respective bands are, in a way, two sides of the same coin when it comes to young, British, unit-shifting guitar pop. Their debut albums came out on the same day (January 23, 2006), both have lost bassists unsuited to the demands of indie stardom (the Arctic Monkeys’ Andy Nicholson and the Kooks’ Max Rafferty) and both frontmen have had relationships with easy-on-the-eye celebrities (in Pritchard’s case, a pre-fame stint with fellow BRIT School alumna Katie Melua and then the TV presenter Fearne Cotton, while Alex Turner is dating TV presenter Alexa Chung).

“I think we’re incredibly similar bands in a lot of ways,” says Pritchard, flitting between the green tea, saké and lager he ordered. “Very different lyrics, and musically quite different, but we’re similar in the [unconditional] way that people like us. We’re both young, both all about the songs and both about… just getting on with it. But Arctic Monkeys are treated like princes and held up as the new great iconic British band, while we’re almost giggled at.”

It’s how Donovan might have felt, stuck on the same circuit as Dylan in 1965. One with catchy tunes and a well-meaning groovy streak, the other more barbed and exotic, whose lyrics are fêted as poetry and songs held up as state-of-the-generation addresses. Has he met Turner? Does he nurture a songwriting rivalry?

“To be honest, every time I see Alex I’m always off my head,” he winces. “I really, really like him though. As a writer, I have massive respect for him.”

Fans have slated The Kooks' frontman Luke Pritchard after he revealed he has an ongoing feud with Alex Turner.

Arctic Monkeys' supporters commented in their droves on NME.COM, attacking the Brighton-based frontman.

Some have gone as far as dismiss The Kooks frontman's revelations that he "had to kick Turner in the head" as a "desperate attempt to get some publicity", suggesting that “Alex Turner would never contacted the [Daily Mirror's] 3AM Girls to discuss something like this.”"

While others have cited petty jealousy towards his rival frontman as the reason for the incident.

One fan said: "Sorry Luke, you'll just have to deal with always being in Alex's shadow."

However, fans that've meet Pritchard in the past have played down the incident, which has been described as “the girl's school equivalent of Noel vs Damon”, to his arrogance.

In contrast Turner’s apparent decision to ignore Pritchard’s attempts to apologise have been praised by some users, as one fan summed-up: "Apart from actual talent, the difference between Alex Turner and Luke Pritchard is class."

However there was at least one Kooks fan who backed their singer, telling NME.COM "I prefer The Kooks. They aren't as overrated, or as stuck up!"
