May 26, 200817 yr My favourite song sung by Karen Carpenter - a cover of 'I Can Dream Can't I' It doesn't get better than this! I defy anyone to say that this isn't the perfect voice and the perfect song. Sorry about the pretty awful video - but it was the only version of the song I could find on Youtube. xDx_FQQkmms Norma
May 26, 200817 yr For me, Eva Cassidy definitely. Her voice blew me away the first time I heard "Songbird." And her version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" gives me chills every time.
May 26, 200817 yr I'll reiterate what people have said about Karen Carpenter - truly extraordinary voice, but I cant stand The Carpenters unfortunately.... I just find their music insufferably boring.... I'll give you some of my candidates... Tarja Terunen - Classically trained with an unbelievable range, clarity and vocal pitch... Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation) - Not as operatic, but certainly a trained voice, again, stunning depth, range and pitch to her voice Sinead O' Connor - Might surprise some of you, but I feel she has an amazing vocal talent, such a shame she seems to have disappeared without trace Cibi (The Birthday Massacre) - Very poppy-sounding voice for being in the sort of band she is (Industrial Perky-Gothic Rock), some BM songs would not be a million miles out of place being sung by a young Madonna or Cyndi Lauper (which, stylistically, Cibi is pretty close to)... Sarah MacLachlan - Best known for her work on those Delerium remixes, but on her own her voice is astounding.. I could happily die listening to her, or... ....Elizabeth Fraser - Simply beautiful and dreamy... She actually makes up her own language on many of Cocteau Twins songs Liv Kristine Espaenes (Leaves' Eyes/Liv Kristine) - Another of the gorgeous Metal Ladies, but her voice is softer, more ethereal than Tarja or Sharon's.. She can turn her hand to Pop stuff as well, which she does as a solo artist... Aneke Van Giersbergen (The Gathering) - Another incredibly striking singer with her own unique style To be honest though, just as a contrast, I think there's a lot to be said for the more IMpure Female vocalists as well... Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy) - has an unbelievable amount of presence, charisma and talent.... For some reason, the whole "Death Metal" style just comes across far more effectively and with more emotional power from her than it does from about 99% of the blokes who do it.... Emilie Autumn - Can seriously sing when she wants to, and has an incredible technical talent, but sometimes wilfully chooses a non-technical, un-commercial approach.... Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls) - as above... Diamanda Galas - As the previous two, but she's probably the one who started off this whole "technically proficient singers doing non-technical" approach... Siouxsie Sioux - Really needs NO introduction - a Goddess....
May 26, 200817 yr the best impure female vocaliast?..... poly styrene?... amazing voice and suited punk to a tee.
May 26, 200817 yr the best impure female vocaliast?..... poly styrene?... amazing voice and suited punk to a tee. Oh, she was cool too, loved her.... But come on, the best female Punk Rocker is always gonna be Siouxsie....
