once in a while a song comes along that is perfect in every way. check the check list:

1. original subject matter

2. good story telling, quirky lyrics with humour

3. but its all about the thundering very catchy chorus that grabs you on 1st listen, that thumping beat and roaring guitars

4. addictive quality...after the song is over you want to listen to it again

4. katy's voice has part of pink's attitude but its more youthful and playful, it suits the production perfectly

5. her image....she looks a bit like lily allen but a much sexier glamourous version, part lolita, part dita von teese

10/10

its distinctive, there are no faults. one of the best songs of the year no questions (my fave so far), this wil be monster

Statement about UK release:

Hi

I don't often send out blanket emails but its been a while since Virgin /Capital Records US have had such a huge artist. But with Katy Perry a new US superstar is born. If Lucille Ball had a secret love child with Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, it would look, sound, and behave like Katy. She's having an amazing start in the US...

Her single 'I Kissed A Girl' moves up to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Charts this week, selling a staggering 1,000,000 records to date, and is also the 1,000th No.1 song in the Billboard Hot 100's history.

The song is still climbing the US top 40 airplay chart to 5* (12*) this week!

Her album 'One Of The Girls' entered the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 9

It is also an immediate success in Australia/NZ, where the song has quickly hit No. 1 on the iTunes charts! So looking set for worldwide domination.

Her Myspace pageis the 3rd most visited Myspace site after Lil Wayne and Rhianna. She has had over 7.6 million plays on her MySpace profile page!

The queen of pop herself, Madonna, has been been bigging up her single on US radio. . Here's a link to an interview she did name checking Katy. She's also been heavily supported by Perez Hilton on his website.

1st Single - I Kissed A Girl out 1 September 2008

Album - One Of The Boys out 15 September 2008

Ooooh excellent!

I'm still so addicted to it, i love the woman. It must be Number 1! I'm not sure Radio 1 would support it though...but i guess its not everything being playlisted there.

I Kissed a Girl Performed Live on 'So You Think You Can Dance' ››

Mangled.

The only reason you wouldn't like the performance is that you don't like the song, nope?

Because on a vocal point of view she was totally fine!

WHAT!>>!>>!?! you guys actually like this? it's no better than a Brittney spears single. I wonder which famous song writing team cooked this one up for her? The Matrix maybe??? You guys can't be falling for this sex selling, teeny bopping, bubble gum, one hit wonder, sell out, written by hit writers bull$h!t.. Your smarter than that.

LOVE the song. (Hence why I started this thread before the song had even taken off in the USA). In my mind that performance was totally horrific though. Absolutely no control over her vocals. She has a big voice but it comes across bloody untrained. More reminiscent of big budget karaoke than a credible television performance.

Wrong. The song is one of my favourites of the year so far. :P

Looks like we can, yeah.

And about the performance, it must be my ears then, because I really can't find it "horrific"... ^_^

you like what you like, and thats of course cool. But this is a big part of why the music industry has fallen so far. People jump on the band wagon of bands/artists like this whom don't write their own music, are only in the lime light because labels throw a million and one dollars into marketing to get their song and face everywhere bombarding people with it. When as far as I can see the majority of you peeps agree she is horrible live. It's not talent to have a producer make a beat, writers write a song, and to auto tune your voice to make a fake record.

It's a catchy song yes.. but thats what you get from the best writers in the biz. But supporting artists that support that side of the industry is lame, just makes them more money to sucker more people that don't know the diff.

You really need to calm down, we're not saying she's the artist of the year, or that she even has any talent, we just say we like the song. That's all, so stop patronizing us and f*** off.

But that's the way the music industry works, especially in such capitalist-driven parts of the world. If I like a song, I like it. I agree with everything you say but I'm not going to stop listening to something I enjoy out of protest...that'd be just daft. It's just part of life and we need to accept that. You're ranting on the basis of nothing it seems.

Oh and my music taste could be described as generally "indiefied"...

First off, I'm calm.. and i'm not patronizing anyone you sheep. telling me to f*** off is like talking to a wall.. pretty pointless. I'm voicing my opinion about a subject that I care about, sheep feeding the wolves. If you don't care about it don't say anything.. don't tell me to f*** off. everything i said about that song and artist is true, you can't deny that. You don't have to say she's artist of the year.. look at the charts, they are. haha.

The first thing i said was you like what you like and thats cool.. I can't believe your so offended, that's funny.

And yes Jake that is how it is.. but it doesn't mean people shouldn't voice their opinion on hopes for a conversation with people that care about the state of music themselves. I think my points were very valid so how you can say I'm ranting about nothing doesn't make sense.

I apologize if i offended those of you that support the money hungry music industry that constantly prove how easily they can manipulate you like the puppets you are! If you like the song wicked! doesn't mean you can't admit you know what your into.

Being called "sheeps" and "puppets" is quite irritating, yes... but anyway, CHEAPWHICH TO BE PRESIDENT!!!! :cheer:
Love the song as with Hot n Cold, Ur So Gay and Wake Up In Vegas but the rest of the album seems a bit lackluster...maybe it will grow on me.
