May 24, 200817 yr Some countries have similar taste in music because they listen to the same music, in some cases the same media. It's not political, the better songs do better. totaly agree with you
May 24, 200817 yr Anybody want to explain WHY people booed when Western countries voted for each other? East need a kick up the ass in that respect.
May 24, 200817 yr Political voting aside, I think 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings were about right. The Greece song didn't sound as impressive the more they kept going back to it. I really thought Poland may do a bit better than they did - I thought they may benefit from some former Eastern Bloc country votes in addition to the song being not too bad. Norma
May 24, 200817 yr Author Blehh at Russia winning. :( Good performance though, and it won by an absolute landslide tbf. Ukraine or Greece would've been a better winner though. Did we deserve last? Perhaps not, that should've solely gone to Germany! Wtf at them getting 12 from Bulgaria?! That was bizarre... Great result for Norway though, and that shows that if a western country sends a good enough song, it will do well. Portugal did pretty well I think too.

Exactly, I'm not sure went wrong with Iceland and Sweden in that respect then. :( Norway was my favourite, just ahead of Greece, so I should be happy that my top two came top 5.
May 24, 200817 yr hmmm...the Croatian is not so bad, it's catchy...it reminds me to a Yugoslavian series called Vruc vetar with Surda  lalalalalala :D Hehe. Didn't know somebody from Hungary heard of that. ;) I swear the Greece song just repeats the same thing over and over until it loses it's meaning. And I totally agree. I was scared it will win. <_< It's yuck... Nice to see that there is somebody I agree with about that.
May 24, 200817 yr Author I would've preferred Greece to have won than Russia, but Dima's song was good, and it was a very good performance.
May 24, 200817 yr The political voting for Russia was a pleasant surprise if there was ever one (in the context of EVision and political voting for songs). As much as the media tries to portray Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians, and the people from the Baltic states as hating each other for various reasons related to our shared dark past, we still stick together. Nothing to do with songs though. Maybe with tastes to some degree. I like Azeri song the best, amazing dynamic range that angel guy had.
May 24, 200817 yr All in all, I think the whole leaderboard was pretty accurate. B&H, Germany & France were obscenely high, and Sweden was criminally low, but other than that it was more or less what I expected. I'd have much prefered a Ukranian or Greecian win, though. But fair play to Russia - and noteworthy that this is the second year a ballad has won. Maybe time for us to send one.
May 24, 200817 yr I hate all this political voting nonsence. Yes, it does have an effect and yes, the likes of Russia and Serbia aren't realistically going to finish outside the top 7 but they only won when they send decent songs. Last year Serbia were in the top 3 of Austra, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Malta, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Holland. Were they all 'political' votes? No, were the bollocks, they won because the song had mass appeal and was actually quite decent!
May 24, 200817 yr Hehe. Didn't know somebody from Hungary heard of that. ;) That series was very popular here in the 80's and it was repeated many times... and if I'm correct it's on a TV station's programme these days again :D anyway I'm happy with Ukraine, Armenia and Norway :D
May 24, 200817 yr Were Sweden faves to win? If this was 1993, probably. I didn' think Sweden stood a chance to be honest, it was a shocking entry. Ukraine did well though - top choon - and not just by Eurovision standards! Edited May 24, 200817 yr by ScottyEm
May 24, 200817 yr And a dismal finish for Uk for the 5th time running, UK needs a good entry next year if we want to win the Eurovision again Our song was mediocre, it was far too understated to stand a chance. But played a tiny factor in the fact we didn't win. No one likes us!

Strange you say that, I don't think there was much between Sweden and Ukraine's entry  I kept getting them confused after only a couple of listens!
May 24, 200817 yr I fell out of love with the Eurovision tonight, I simply don't understand how Russia can be called the best song, how Azerbaijan was given even a single vote and how anyone can justify the fact that Western European countries such as France, Germany, and the UK can fail to score significantly. I've never complained about political voting before and have very much been someone to say it's a culture thing but tonight, it went too far. Edited May 24, 200817 yr by brunoboi
