May 27, 200817 yr I'm really excited about it too. It will be nice to watch it without constantly thinking about England. There are two teams i'll be following closely and that's Spain because of their connection to Liverpool and Italy because I just like the country Italy. I'm not fond of their style of football and I think it'll be very difficult for them to win Euro 2008. It's so open this year though, I think there's realisitcally about 9 times that could win it. Group C looks the best group on paper from a neutral perspective though.
May 27, 200817 yr Sadly, I'm going to have to go back some way in my family tree and support Germany. The only good thing about it (a bit like as a Liverpool supporter watching the European Champions League Final) I can enjoy the competition for the football (like Euro 1984 which was probably the best football tournament in my lifetime), other than wanting none my club's players to pick up a serious injury during the tournament.
May 27, 200817 yr I really feel sorry for Romania as I think they could've been this years underdogs had they not been in the group of death (somewhat similar to Ivory Coast in the last World Cup; being stuck in a group with Argentina, Serbia&Montenegro & Holland). Alas I shall be supporting Holland this year as they, as a footballing country, really fascinate me. They always seem to have a young, fresh squad on the verge of big things and play some of the most fluent football in Europe yet never win anything (discounting their efforts 20 years ago in Germany). And obviously the Manchester United connection what with VDS being their captain plays a part too. GO TEAM NETHERLANDS

May 27, 200817 yr You never know, they could spring a surprise  Oh I really hope so. Nothing would make a greater start to this tournament for me than to see both Italy and France going out at the first hurdle..
May 27, 200817 yr I still think Romania have a really good chance of progressing - no-one will be expecting them to, but they're in a group with France and Italy, both of whom could collapse, but let's see. I think Holland are certs to go through from the group though, they've such good attacking talents (Nistelrooy, Kuyt, Van Der Vaart, Babel, Sneijer, Huntelaar, Van Persie, Robben etc.) they're gonna be a threat to any team.
May 28, 200817 yr I've picked Holland in the work sweep, but now see they're drawn with France and Italy (mind you, if Scotland can beat the French then I don't see why some decent players can't!) Otherwise I'll plump for anyone out of Sweden, Croatia and Switzerland...each has an outside chance (Switzerland only cos they're hosting).
May 28, 200817 yr As long as Spain keep underachieving worse than Enlgand and Arsehole Scolari doesn't win I don't really mind who wins. The Poland/Austria/Germany group is interesting...
May 28, 200817 yr I'll be supporting Croatia. Hoping they can beat Germany again like they did at France 98 in the quarter finals.
May 28, 200817 yr I'm supporting two countries: -> The Netherlands: my gf's half-Dutch (and was born in Amsterdam). -> Italy: I got them in the work sweepstake.

May 29, 200817 yr what if there's a netherlands v italy final? I'll probably decide on the day*. And let's not forget that their first game in the tournament is against each other. * - Not that it hasn't happened before: my flatmate Jo had Italy in the WC sweepstake, and had a French gf (at the time).
June 4, 200817 yr Portugal ftw :D ill be looking forward to Saturdays match. Nervous. But excited :w00t:
June 5, 200817 yr I really feel sorry for Romania as I think they could've been this years underdogs had they not been in the group of death (somewhat similar to Ivory Coast in the last World Cup; being stuck in a group with Argentina, Serbia&Montenegro & Holland). Wasn't that group of death pretty easy? Iirc, the Netherlands and Argentina both qualified with a game - against each other - to spare (and unsurprisingly fielded weakened squads).
June 5, 200817 yr Wasn't that group of death pretty easy? Iirc, the Netherlands and Argentina both qualified with a game - against each other - to spare (and unsurprisingly fielded weakened squads). Yes it did turn out ridiculously easy. Serbia weren't the team everyone bigged them up to be [i think they conceeded 7 to Argentina] and although Ivory Coast put up a good fight against every team they didn't get the required outcomes. Their points total at the end of the group stages was quite harsh on them really.
June 5, 200817 yr Romania won't finish bottom. They're a very good team and if they were in a different group would rightly be considered to be the best of the rest (behind Germany, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy & Holland). They were also in the same group as Holland in qualification and won that group beating them 1-0 at home and getting a 0-0 away. Not bad considering Holland's supposed attacking prowess...
