August 3, 200816 yr I saw this film last night and i have to agree.... absolutley fantastic Heath Ledger was flawless as the joker with fantastic acting, Christian Bale was also great...... one criticism i have is.. what happened to the boats?! My favorite part would have to be between Heath being dressed in the nurse costume and that whole scene or when he comes in and does the pencil trick. Also loved the beginning. Genius. Same  Those scenes were fantastic
August 3, 200816 yr I have this on pirate and i still havent seen it  wtf is wrong with me
August 4, 200816 yr I've never seen any Batman film ever, but I saw this last night and it was absolutley brilliant. Heath Ledgers character is one of the best I've seen in any film ever. I must watch some other Batman films
August 6, 200816 yr How is Sarah Jayne Dunn on it? I know she has a small part, but how many scenes/lines does she get in the final edit? she was in it for all of 10 seconds in a nightclub  so much for her being part of the "movie business" now.
August 8, 200816 yr one criticism i have is.. what happened to the boats?! As far as I understood it, both boats declined to blow each other up. The prisoner boat threw their detonator out into the water, and none of the civilian passengers could quite bring themselves to commit murder either. The Joker was completely taken aback, having fully expected one of the boats to blow the other up, and whilst he was mulling it over Batman got the upper hand and disposed of the Joker's detonator. Anyway, I didn't really expect to like this. Not that I thought it was going to be a bad film, but it had been hyped up so much I didn't see how it could live up to it. Heath Ledger in particular, I was one of the crowd who thought he was only being talked up because of his death. I was completely wrong. Best film I've seen in ages. I was completely captivated all throughout, it really didn't seem like 3 hours to me, could easily have sat for 3 more. There weren't any bad performances or anything, but Heath Ledger really is THAT good that he completely blows everyone else out of the water. Bale seems almost lifeless in comparison, which is unfortunate for him because he did a fair job. I don't know how he managed it, but Ledger really did come across as being inhuman and completely emotionally detached from reality. But at the same time, there WERE the laughs, just very black humour as opposed to the usual camp fun of Batman franchises. Like someone (Cassidy?) already mentioned, the scene of the Joker stumbling out in the nurses uniform blowing the hospital up...ICONIC. My only criticism is, like everyone else, the treatment of Harvey Dent/Two Face. Rather than the rush job of having him go insane and being killed off within the last half an hour, it might have been more interesting to have left it at the point where Harvey goes insane, and then allowing that to set up the third film with Two Face as the arch villain. There was so much potential there...
August 8, 200816 yr I think that was bad casting and writing really. Whoever plays Harvey does a much better job of being slick and lovely (if a little bland) than of being 'evil'. On top of that he didn't really do anything evil (except hold a family hostage, but compare that with the joker holding two boats full of people hostage!); he was sort of a secondary, watered-down villain when it could've worked so much better if he actually convinced as an evil guy turned so bitter because of love and loss. That really is my only criticism though. I think Bale was pretty damn good (though unfortunately for him, overshadowed) and Maggie Gyllenhaal was absolutely excellent in the role which Katie Holmes had previously made such a poor job of...
August 8, 200816 yr I think that was bad casting and writing really. Whoever plays Harvey does a much better job of being slick and lovely (if a little bland) than of being 'evil'. Aaron Eckhart more or less made his name by playing the incredibly nasty, mysoginistic Chad in Neil Labute's excellent film "In The Company of Men".... I suggest you track down this film and then tell me that Eckhart cant do evil.... The fact that you described his portrayal of Harvey Dent as Slick, lovely and a little bland just shows how good the performance of a City "Politician" (which is basically what a District Attorney is - Politician first, Lawyer second, mainly cos these guys have to be voted into that position by the people of the city..) actually is.... And, to be honest, I think people totally miss the point of Two Face's involvement in this film, the idea is to see the fall from grace, to see how the good, noble Harvey Dent becomes Two Face... In fact, Harvey is the most important character in the film, because it more or less ALL revolves around his heroism being twisted and made evil by the joker.. Batman is already a compromised "hero" in a lot of respects, far worse for the psyche of Gotham's citizens if Harvey Dent, the "great white hope" falls..... This is the reason that The Joker goes after him, to corrupt the seemingly incorruptible Harvey, The Batman is already seen as a Vigilante or Anti-Hero as opposed to Hero, so corrupting him holds no amusement for The Joker..... Eckhart's performance is both believable and superb (light years ahead of Tommy Lee Jones' ridiculous, ham-fisted approach in "Batman Forever"), and in many ways has the more difficult acting job to do than either Bale or Ledger, because he has to show more layers of emotion.... I reckon he's more than worthy of a Best Supporting Actor Nomination.... ...And dont think for a minute that Two Face is really dead..... I reckon Batman and Jim Gordon faked Harvey's death and put him in Arkham....
August 8, 200816 yr Author ...And dont think for a minute that Two Face is really dead..... I reckon Batman and Jim Gordon faked Harvey's death and put him in Arkham.... you have hit the nail on the head, as I know where Batman 3 is going, the Dark Victory comic Originally the Joker was to be in Batman 3 as well, but due to Heath Ledger's sadly demise, they are no longer using the villain, as far as I know its the Hangman and Catwoman. The Riddler, Penguin and other villains are to be included but yet to be decided. Batman 3 story details
August 8, 200816 yr Author They're bringing Catwoman into Batman? They have to for the third movie, if the script is based on the Dark Victory comic novel
August 8, 200816 yr ^Ooh, I do hope so! Well different strokes in that case, for he wasn't superb after the first hour of the film...and as Two Face he was absolutely wooden. Bale, Ledger and Gyllenhaal all acted him off the screen...
August 8, 200816 yr I'd be very suprised if they brought Catwoman into the next film... I think she'd be a good character and everything, but I think it's too early after the Catwoman movie myself personally. I've read that they're wanting to use Pengiun as the main villan for the next film... good choice imo.
August 8, 200816 yr My brother saw this the other day and said it was the best film he has EVER seen. :o He said it's not like the other Batman films and is very dark in theme. I am therefore going to see it on Sunday. ^_^

I reckon Batman and Jim Gordon faked Harvey's death and put him in Arkham.... Yeah thats a idea we thought too when discussing the film the other week....and yeah the film is not really about the joker its really the story of Dent... and yeah get "In The Company of Men"....perhaps in a double-bill with either Eckhart's Thank You For Smoking or Labute's The Shape of Things.... I'd be very suprised if they brought Catwoman into the next film... I think she'd be a good character and everything, but I think it's too early after the Catwoman movie myself personally. I've read that they're wanting to use Pengiun as the main villan for the next film... good choice imo. Well obv theres been speculation on whats gonna happen next, and fantasy role casting with a lot of people seeming to want (from one of the best comic book films ever - American Splendor) Paul Giamatti as the Penguin...on the other hand one poster to teletext's vortex the other day wanted to see either Angelina Jolie or Jessica Alba as the Catwoman...which would be a bad idea as Jolie would be too obv and Alba's a plank... Maybe it would be better bringing a lessor villian to the front rather than the big names of Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler like the Scarerow in the first film and Two-Face in this (tho obv overshadowed) "Vortex: Casey for The Riddler Casey Affleck for the Riddler. Christian Bale is by far the greatest actor of recent time. I also believe Pierce Brosnan is a fantastic actor and under-rated. Si, Felixstowe" "Vortex: Catwoman unwelcome Let's face it people, Halle Berry killed off Catwoman (a ridiculous concept of how she became the manx). If ever Catwoman or Penguin were to be revived they would certainly kill off the Batman franchise. Also thanks to Lee and Decky for the Gambit info. Can't wait to see him incarnated. Mac, Northeast"

Personally, I think we NEED the Nolans to resuscitate Catwoman after that sh!tty Halle Berry film, and make her more like the comics made Selina Kyle/Catwoman (a prostitute and anti-hero....). It would need someone of pretty considerable talent to pull off the role, so that lets out Jessica Alba from the start.... Personally, I'd go for someone with a bit of edge to them, and someone a bit less obvious - Asia Argento would be a frankly fukkin' AMAZING Catwoman (and she's pretty good at playing prostitutes as well  ) in a lot of ways.. Selma Blair I reckon could do well also, perhaps even Anne Hathaway (although, she'd need to toughen up a fair bit, do combat training or martial arts...). Paul Giamatti for Penguin, Casey Affleck for Riddler - good options....
August 9, 200816 yr Anne Hathaway for Catwoman? I suppose it COULD work but I just find that's so impossible to imagine. I think Eva Green would be a brilliant choice personally, or Hilary Swank.
August 9, 200816 yr Anne Hathaway for Catwoman? I suppose it COULD work but I just find that's so impossible to imagine. I think Eva Green would be a brilliant choice personally, or Hilary Swank. It was pretty much impossible to fathom Tim Burton choosing Michelle Pfeiffer to do it back in the day as well at first, but it DID happen, and she did an okay job of it (a damn sight better than Halle Berry..). Like I say, if she (Hathaway) toughened herself up, did training, maybe even got did a few amateur ladies boxing fights..... Of course, Asia Argento seems the sort of girl who'd scratch your eyes out and slit your throat if you looked at her the wrong way, which is why I reckon she'd do a good job.... Eva Green wouldn't be too bad either... Dunno about Hilary Swank though....
August 9, 200816 yr Author Catwoman is part of the Dark Victory storyline they will have to bring that villain in, if they are heading where I'm thinking with the storyline of the Batman graphic novels, rumours has it Emily Blunt for the role of Catwoman. The Nolan Bros want to develop the Dark Victory novel. I also heard the Penguin will be the main villain as well
August 9, 200816 yr i dont like catwoman really i dont find her a facisnating character and to be honest, and i also find The Penguin pretty lame, as for The Riddler i think he would work well in Nolan's vision, i heard they might be getting Johnny Depp for him, i think he could give a good performance as The Riddler. If they do bring Catwoman and The penguin back then i have every faith in the Nolan's to make them successful characters in the movie.
