Posted June 10, 200817 yr still going strong after his debut hit 'its no unusual' topped the chart back in 65. although he became pretty prolific in the 60's his appeal was mainly to older women! courting them and the tv/caberet scene he became huge. tbh i think he has a great voice, and would have made a great blues singer! or rock band frontman! he even had elvis amongst his fans. i cant say that im all that keen on his material, until the later years when he started colaborating. (stone in love from 06 with chicane was superb!), kiss, burning down the house, and sex bomb were good. 'delilah' of course became a karaoke classic. thoughts?
June 10, 200817 yr Sorry but his version of kiss seriously sucks. Overblown and bellowed like an old walrus - much like most of his recent material. The only track I like was his Bond theme for Thunderball. For me the cabaret circuit irreversibly tarnished his output for me. Actually the thought of listening to him sends a shudder down my spine.
June 10, 200817 yr Not really my cup of tea, although I suppose he is superior to Engelbert Humperdinck.
June 10, 200817 yr Not a huge Tom fan, don't mind Delilah, but hated Young new Mexican puppeteer wiith a vengeance :puke2: . Of his recent stuff that one with chicane was alright, and burning down the house were passible.
June 10, 200817 yr Author Not really my cup of tea, although I suppose he is superior to Engelbert Humperdinck. lol... so not a fav by bj retroheads then... not surprised but i thought id try to include someone whos vbeen on the pop scene for years dispite him being 'uncool'. i agree , he is superior to englebert humperdink, strange though that in the heat of 'swinging 60's' these two caberet stars dominated the charts (sep 66 - end of 67). green green grass, release me, last waltz, detroit city, im coming home...

To me they kinda sold out to the man and ran off to Vegas and played it safe, rather than change their music with the times.
June 10, 200817 yr Author To me they kinda sold out to the man and ran off to Vegas and played it safe, rather than change their music with the times. oh definately... money i suspect was more important then musical experimentation but i dont think engelbert could do anything else, tom however could.
June 10, 200817 yr I like him....he does have a pwoerful voice, powerful enough to destroy microphones in the recording studio....and who could forget 'What's New p*ssy Cat ?' I kinda like his version of Kiss myself...and I like Art of Noise as well, with whom he did Kiss...
June 14, 200817 yr  I love his music. From It's not unusual through to the modern stuff. Not sure, however, whether i prefer All you need is love by Tom or the legends that are The Beatles. :)
June 18, 200817 yr Brilliant all round performer, could sing any type of music well Love the earlier stuff and he also proved his rock credentials with Mama Told Me Not To Come and Unbelieveable
