What songs do you know that were created specifically for a film? Good ones only please.

I can think of:

Live and let die - Paul McCartney & Wings

Time Warp - Rocky Horror Picture Show

Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr

A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles

Help! - The Beatles

Any more?

For me a total no brainer, that takes less than 0.2 seconds to answer, where all the different character's sing the song at the end of this incredibly moving Paul Thomas Anderson movie:

Aimee Mann - Wise Up (Magnolia OST 1999)

Queen wrote the soundtrack for Highlander. Two of the tracks that were issued as singles were A Kind Of Magic and Who Wants To Live Forever. They also recorded Flash for Flash Gordon in 1980.

Everybody's Talkin' - Nilsson (Midnight Cowboy)...

Spinal Tap - Big Bottom/Sex Farm/Stonehenge/Listen To The Flower People (This Is Spinal Tap)

It Can't Rain All The Time - Jane Siberry (The Crow)

Face To Face - Siouxsie and the Banshees (Batman Returns)

Another Body Murdered - Faith No More & Boo Ya TRIBE (Judgment Night) - the soundtrack album is full of such collisions with underground hard-core rap and Metal/Indie Rock acts of the early '90s, the album fukkin' ROCKS like a b/astard, the film, however, is sh!t.....

Maniac and What a Feeling from Flashdance. And I was going to say Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler from Beaches but then remembered that it was actually written (and even released by several artists) years before Beaches.

Don't You (Forget About Me) from the Breakfast Club in 1985 holds so many memories for me.

You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra is my favourite Bond theme.

For me it has to be Berlin - Take my breath away from Top Gun. One of the best films of all time. ;)

Bryan Adams - Everything I Do - Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves - who can forget this 16 week chart topper from 1991

Lee Marvin - Wanderin' Star - Paint Your Wagon

Hugo Montenegro - The Good The Bad & The Ugly

Topol - If I Were A Rich Man - Fiddler On The Roof

But I think it was written for a film - Dolly's The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Norma

I agree with you about Dolly's version too!

yep, but whitneys version wasnt! it was a cover .

 I've only ever heard Dolly Partons version Once or Twice and while Dolly is a great singer, her best hit by far being Jolene, i much prefer it by Whitney. Probably because it's the One i grew up to ;)
