Arctic Monkeys are set to reconvene this month to begin writing their third album.

Speaking to BBC 6Music at the Glastonbury festival, guitarist Jamie Cook said that the work on the band's second album, 2007's 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', would take place in the their hometown of Sheffield.

"We are gonna get our fingers out next month [July]," he said. [We'll] get back in his [Alex Turner, singer/guitarist] room in Sheffield and start writing some tunes."

When asked about what direction the band might take for the album, Cook was unsure.

"I don't know yet, we could go any way. I'm excited," he said. "[At the] end of last year when we had been touring for a long time, we just needed a bit of a rest. But we are eager to get back in."

He added that it would be good to get back together, after the changes in the bandmembers' lives over the last year.

"It's kind of weird," he explained. "Al's moved down to London now and we haven't seen each other for a bit. But we all keep on meeting up.

"[At] the end of last year we had seen each other constantly for four years. Sleeping on a bus and waking up next to each other, it was like, 'I do not want to see you for about... for a long time!' But then you are kind of weirdly missing each other."

Hopefully the album should be out early next year now! :w00t: I imagine they'll already have a couple of songs wrote too. I'm possibly expecting an EP to be released in September time maybe.

No it doesn't. Poor journalism on NME's behalf, but I think we can guess what it means. ^_^

If the songs they played when I saw them at the end of last year are anything to go by then this album looks like it'll be less commercial than the first two but I'm glad to see they're getting on with doing something ^_^

I wouldn't be suprised if an EP came out around when the LSP tour comes around..

i am ready for a new AM album :naughty: the LSP amazing album will last me until then though :P
it be well good if it was out by the end of the year then it would be at an album per year ratio :w00t:

I hope it doesn't come out this year tbh. I think the album would get lost in the Christmas rush if i'm being totally honest... but we'll see.

Wow, that's like a new album every year!,- Hard workers. ;)

Dizzee Rascal has expressed his delight at leading the midweek UK singles chart.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1, the rapper reacted to the fact that his new single, 'Dance Wiv Me', is currently holding the Number One slot.

"It feels good because it's the first release on my own label and it's looking like it's going to the top," he told BBC Newsbeat.

Dizzee Rascal faces stiff competition from dance act Basshunter - but it doesn't appear to be fazing him.

"I hear Basshunter is on my tail but it doesn't matter. I've not heard his tune anyway," said the MC.

'Dance Wiv Me', a collaboration between Dizzee Rascal, Scottish dance producer Calvin Harris and Chrom, appears to have inspired the rapper to embark on more cross-genre adventures.

He told Newsbeat: "I'd love to collaborate with The Ting Tings on a song. I met them at Glastonbury and I told them I was going to do this cover (the rapper recently played the Salford duo's chart-topper 'That's Not My Name') and I said, 'We should work together' - and Franz Ferdinand(who reportedly approached Dizzee about a collaboration at Glastonbury)."

He added, "I'm working on my album now so we'll see what happens. I wouldn't mind doing some work with the Arctic Monkeys again too (they collaborated on 2007 B-side 'Temptation Greets You Like A Naughty Friend'), but I haven't had a chance to speak to them yet."

I have a feeling that there'll be another B-side between the two parties. ^_^
