YANK 'N DEC SHOW

EXCLUSIVE

By Jessica Boulton Jessica.Boulton@People.Co.Uk

Ant and Dec last night told of their nerves as they bid to crack America with their first US telly show tomorrow.

And the lads revealed true Brit Robbie Williams has been keeping them calm - with tee and sympathy.

Their gameshow Wanna Bet has been given a primetime slot by network giant ABC.

Speaking in LA, Ant, 32, revealed: "We're a bit nervous but just excited really. We've shot it all so the hard work is done. We'll just have to wait and see if people like it."

Dec, also 32, added: "We've been hanging out with Robbie Williams at his house, playing cards and having a few rounds of golf."

Old pal Robbie, 34, is just one of the expats the Geordies have been catching up with. Ant said: "We've kind of stayed very English if I'm honest.

"We went and saw Ricky Gervais at the theatre, then saw Coldplay and hung out with them. We're going to meet up with Cat Deeley later. We really should try a bit harder to meet Americans!"

Ant and Dec are unknowns in the US - but ABC chiefs are confident Wanna Bet will change that. It sees stars gamble on stunts for charity. Highlights include a man who can name an album by licking the CD and a boy who identifies vacuums by their noise.

But Ant and Dec insisted they won't be going all LA on us - ruling out yoga and a new set of teeth.

Admitting they miss beer, footie and curry, Dec added: "We're not used to all this sun either. Ant burnt his forehead and I've burnt my Adam's apple!"

Subject: Soccer Aid 2008 Announced & Tickets On Sale

Body: Soccer Aid was the brainchild of Robbie Williams, a UNICEF ambassador, and Jonathan Wilkes and the all star match raised an impressive £2.6 million for UNICEF's work with partners for children around the world.

It last held at Old Trafford in 2006 and attracted a host of world class players and celebrities including Diego Maradona, David Ginola, Angus Deayton, Patrick Kielty, Gianfranco Zola, Alastair Campbell, Paul Gascoigne and Jamie Redknapp.

Now Soccer Aid is back and set to take place at Wembley Stadium with Ant and Dec hosting the match where the crowd will be treated to a unique opportunity to see football legends take to the pitch alongside their celebrity counterparts. The event will also be broadcast on ITV1.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is stepping up to manage England and his squad includes football legends Jamie Redknapp and Alan Shearer, as well as celebrities Kyran Bracken, Ben Shephard, Gareth Gates, Jamie Theakston, and Jonathan Wilkes. Meanwhile, legendary Scot Kenny Dalglish will take charge of the Rest of the World and players hoping to make it into his starting line up include Westlife's Nicky Byrne, Alastair Campbell, Patrick Kielty, Brian Lara, Jesse Metcalfe and Peter Schmeichel.

Gordon Ramsay returns to captain Rest of the World, but team England have a new skipper. Robbie Williams is passing on his captain's armband, and the responsibility of deciding who will take his place is in the capable hands of manager Harry Redknapp.

Robbie is confident that again the match will be of huge benefit to UNICEF's work around the world. "Being able to help so many people through Soccer Aid was one of the true highlights of my life," he said. "I'm gutted that this time round my knee isn't up to it so unfortunately I'm out of the game. But I hope that everyone involved has the time of their life like I did, raises loads of money for UNICEF and that the best side wins.

Tim Lovejoy and Louise Redknapp will bring all the action from the sidelines while pundits and special studio guests will deliver their live analysis of the beautiful game.

Each squad comprises eleven celebrities and five world cup greats. With less than a week for the players to train and bond before the big game, the pressure is on to get match fit and performance ready.

A blooming lovely show

RECORD crowds were expected to descend on the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park this week after weather forecasters predicted a mini heat wave up to the weekend.

But it remained overcast with a sprinkling of rain as the final preparations were made at the Tatton showground at Knutsford on Monday.

With a sunny day predicted for Tuesday's official launch of the show, traders were stocking up on summery parasols instead of the umbrellas and wellies that proved so popular for previous year's downpours.

More than 100,000 visitors are expected, and organisers said an estimated 48,000 tubs and cornets of ice-cream and 12,000 glasses of Pimms will be enjoyed over the event, which runs until Sunday on the 29-acre showground.

Big attractions at the show, celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, include the spectacular show gardens. Key themes include oriental gardens, inspired by the up-coming Beijing Olympics and tropical-style gardens aimed to highlight the changing weather systems in our country.

Show manager for the RHS show at Tatton Kris Hulewicz said: "It is fascinating to see how the show's gardens are looking ahead and incorporating elements that people will need to think of when gardening in years to come. Environmental issues are inextricably linked to gardening and Tatton will showcase how keeping green issues in mind can help people to create flourishing spaces, and also demonstrate how gardens themselves are an ideal tool for creating a sustainable lifestyle."

There were also floral notes providing musical inspiration at the show. The Teenage Cancer Trust charity's show garden was punk inspired with a host of famous rock bands emblazoned on walls between vibrant spiky plants. Vale Royal Council's flower bed paid homage to the Beatles with a giant flowery yellow submarine, while Stoke-on-Trent council paid tribute to its most famous pop son, ex-Take That star Robbie Williams - with its Let Us Entertain You garden. Robbie's mum Jan and sister Sally gave the garden their seal of approval at the preview event yesterday. Jan said: "Rob's just brilliant about Stoke, he thinks the place is wonderful. He's really pleased about the garden."

The cost of hiring a pop star for a private party

By Kate Jackson 24/07/2008

Mark Ronson

Got a big birthday coming up? Celebrate it in style by hiring your very own star.

More and more big name celebs are available for private hire - and no wonder since performing at parties is proving a nice little earner.

Just last month the Mirror revealed how Mark Ronson trousered a million pounds for one hour's worth of DJing at the birthday bash of pampered 21-year-old Freya Dawson.

 And washed-up rocker Robbie Williams was offered £1.5million to appear for just half an hour at a festival in Norway.

So how deep do you have to dig into your savings to tempt your favourite star to perform?

And is anyone up for grabs?

Posing as a fixer for fictional wealthy property investor Stuart Hedges, we contacted several top showbiz bookers to see which celebs would be up for playing at his daughter Alexandra's 21st birthday.

And it's amazing what a few grand can get.

A fan of Rhydian? He's yours for £20k.

But then from Justin Timberlake to Peaches Geldof, it seems there's no one money can't buy...

Shakin' Stevens - £40K

:yahoo: "Shaky doesn't usually do parties," says Angie Becker at Kennedy Street Enterprises.

"He does corporates but I've never known him do a birthday party... it's not to say he wouldn't.

"For corporates, he's around £40,000. Plus everything - the sound, the lights, hotels, all sorts - on top of that.

"You would have to provide the stage, the sound, lights, catering. You'd be talking about 16 or 17 people, but I don't know if it's something we would be able to do."

Lily Allen - £150K

"For a personal appearance, performing live vocal to track (no band), the minimum figure would be £150K, plus travel and accommodation where applicable," says Lily's manager Todd Interland.

Sadly for our fictional birthday girl, Lily's next album could be released in October or January and she may not be able to attend due to promotional duties.

The Prodigy - £250K

Just the band to get our girl's party started - "If you want to be screamed at!" says Susie at William Morris.

"Once things are more confirmed and you've a better idea of what you're after, you can go into the finer details to make sure the young lady gets what she wants. She's a lucky girl!"

Roxy Music - £200K

Before we even got the £200k quote, we were warned by Clare Stone at The Agency Group that Roxy Music would be "eye-wateringly expensive".

And that price wouldn't include production costs, such as the stage, sound, lighting plus the band's riders.

Phew!

Jamiroquai - £500K

Half a million to get Jay Kay to sing, but we'd also have to stump up for accommodation, meals and drinks.

Prue Almond of International Talent Booking says: "Five-star for Jay and the band, crew four-star if they were to stay the night.

"As it's the UK, the crew may not need accommodation, but you should look at the worst case scenario.

"You need to look at a suite for Jay and then 18 king bedded singles for the rest of the party.

"Food and drinks won't be too ridiculous, although you would have to provide what is on the rider - normal dressing room food and drinks really."

1.5 million is peanuts to Robbie ^_^ why would he want to do it

Old Shaky for 40K  Bargain!!! :w00t:

LONDON, England (AP) -- The Rolling Stones, the world's top-earning music act last year, have signed a long-term, exclusive worldwide contract with Vivendi SA's Universal Music, dealing a major blow to the group's former recording company, EMI Group PLC.

The Stones earned a reported $88 million between June 2006 and June 2007.

Universal said on Friday that the new deal covered both future albums by the Stones and their back catalog including such albums as "Sticky Fingers" and "Black and Blue" and songs "Brown Sugar" and "Start Me Up."

Universal, the world's biggest recording company, did not disclose terms of the deal.

The Stones' departure from EMI, where they'd been for more than 20 years, is a low point in a bumpy ride for Terra Firma Capital Partners Ltd., the private equity firm that bought the London-based recording company last year.

New EMI boss Guy Hands failed to re-sign British band Radiohead. Other major artists, including Coldplay and Robbie Williams, have expressed unhappiness with some changes at the company since the buyout.

"Universal are forward-thinking, creative and hands-on music people," the Stones said in a statement. "We really look forward to working with them."

The British group has already had some experience of working with Universal after the company, a subsidiary of French media and telecommunication giant Vivendi SA, in March released the soundtrack album from "Shine A Light," director Martin Scorsese's film of the Stones' 2006 performance at the Beacon Theater in New York.

Universal will now release all new recordings by the group through its Polydor label and take over full digital and physical rights.

It added that it will "begin planning an unprecedented, long-term campaign to reposition the Rolling Stones' entire catalog for the digital age."

The Stones topped Forbes magazine's list of wealthy music acts last year, reportedly earning some $88 million between June 2006 and June 2007, mostly from their "Bigger Bang Tour."

EMI, whose artists also include the Beastie Boys, Norah Jones and Kylie Minogue, announced plans this year to cut more than one-third of its work force to offset a drop in CD sales revenue and the departure of several major artists, including Paul McCartney.

EMI has struggled more than the other major labels -- Universal, Sony BMG and Warner Music Group -- as digital music downloading has gained in popularity.

The company blamed disappointing North American results for a series of damaging profit warnings, but industry experts also pointed to internal control problems and the company's lack of new music.

-_- (Another nail in the EMI coffin?)

Deal or no deal?

Artists need to think twice before signing a 360-degree deal - it could leave them in a spin

July 25, 2008 4:15 PM

http://i37.tinypic.com/qn19c2.jpg

Robbie Williams ... Right, that's it. You're not getting anymore albums. Photograph: Rex

Ever since Robbie Williams signed his notorious £80m deal with EMI in return for handing over the profits from all his musical ventures - including touring and merchandising - the 360-degree deal has been the biggest buzzword in the record industry. But who does it actually benefit?

Live Nation has signed 360-degree deals with artists like Jay-Z, Madonna and Nickelback and many major labels now see the advent of these kind of deals as an opportunity to dip into every aspect of their artists' income in return for handling everything from promotion to touring.

In most cases they were already handling these areas, but weren't allowed to profit from their involvement. Tour support used to be the label's responsibility, as it was viewed as a way of promoting the record. These days, a label will ask for a major cut of the merchandise, instead of waiting for the band to recoupe through record sales.

For decades, artists have not seen any of the money from record sales - even if they've sold millions of albums - since that money has gone on paying back their advances, the cost of recording and the money spent on promotion and marketing. According to a manager on the board of the Music Managers Forum, Snow Patrol didn't recoup even though they sold 6m copies of their latest album, and so they didn't see any money from record sales. This is why artists have been relying on income from touring, merchandising and publishing (and why many artists who don't write insist on getting writing credits). But as the income from physical CD sales dwindles, the major labels now want a piece from those pies too.

This has come at a time when artists and their managers are realising that they can do a lot of what the record labels do, or outsource it to whoever is deemed best for the job. It makes you wonder who benefits the most from these 360-degree deals (unless - like Madonna and Jay-Z - the artist gets a massive advance).

So what's in it for the artists? Well, touring costs money, and an advance makes getting out on the road possible. If you don't have rich parents who can fund you, getting your hands on tour support money is essential. However, artists should think twice before surrendering large parts of their merchandising income to the label for what is, essentially, a rather small advance. Especially as bands now have more choices than ever before when it comes to signing a deal.

Traditionally, when an unsigned artist negotiated their first record deal they were rarely in a position of power. Even if they became successful, they'd often be stuck with very bad terms for a long time. We used to joke about how a record (or publishing) deal consists of three pages telling you how much you're going to get and the next 97 (or more) pages telling you why you're not going to get it. No wonder artists grew weary of record labels.

For this reason, some industry figures say we are now in the age of managers and venture capitalists. Bands can strike the best deal for them, in return for a sum of money. What they give away is up for negotiation.

Lonestar's Amazed' tops 'Most Popular Wedding Song' list

Posted: 11:30a.m. IST, July 25, 2008

London, July 25 (ANI): A decade old love song 'Amazed' has topped the list of most requested love songs by newly-weds in Britain.

The ballad released by US rock group Lonestar in 1999 has been voted as the most popular wedding song of 2007.

According to Performing Rights Society, the song topped the wedding charts with 35 per cent of requests.

Lonestar's Amazed was played 14.6 million times in the UK last year, including radio and TV broadcasts, with Bryan Adams' Everything I Do (I Do It For You), finishing second on 6.3 million.

Weddings tend to be more memorable when a couple include a special song, The Sun quoted Ellis Rich, chair of the PRS, as saying.

Angels by Robbie Williams took the second place, while You're Beautiful by James Blunt took the third position.

Still The One by Shania Twain and Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden landed at the sixth and seventh spot respectively.

The top ten wedding songs of 2007 are:

1 Amazed, Lonestar

2 Everything I Do (I Do It For You), Bryan Adams

3 Angels, Robbie Williams

4 You're Beautiful, James Blunt

5 Don't Want To Miss A Thing, Aerosmith

6 Still The One, Shania Twain

7 Truly, Madly, Deeply, Savage Garden

8 Have I Told You Lately, Van Morrison

9 From This Moment On, Shania Twain

10 I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston (ANI)

 no Donny Osmond in that list

I thought Puppy Love would of at least been in there -_-
