Shakira In Talks For Huge Deal With Live Nation

Latin superstar Shakira is in talks with concert promoter Live Nation for a contract that will include touring, merchandising and recording, according to people familiar with the talks.

The Colombian-born songstress is expected to complete a multimillion-dollar deal with Live Nation before the end of the year, after months of talks.

The New York Post reported today (July 1) that the so-called 360-degree deal could be worth up to $70 million, though one person close to the artist said she should be worth more based on her recent touring success. :w00t:

Live Nation's strategy is to expand its business beyond handling artists' touring to also offer recording, merchandising, ticket sales and other services that have traditionally been handled by disparate companies.

Live Nation already has a touring relationship with Shakira, having handled the U.S. leg of her "Oral Fixation" tour last year. People familiar with the global tour said it had grossed over $100 million. :w00t:

Shakira's recording rights currently belong with Epic. The 31-year-old still has two more studio albums to deliver -- one in English and the other in Spanish -- under the Epic contract, as well as a greatest hits album.

Last year, Live Nation signed Madonna to a similar 360-degree deal for $120 million over 10 years. It has also signed deals with rapper Jay-Z and rock act U2, although the latter does not include recording rights.

Another artist is joining Live Nation.

This time, it's Latin sensation Shakira!

The pop star is close to signing a contract with the concert promoters which includes recording, touring, and merchandising.

The deal is said to be in the multi-million dollar range and should be finalized before the end of the year.

Some reports are estimating she'll be receiving $70 million, though others estimate it's closer to $90M. :w00t:

Live Nation and Shakira have worked together in the past when they handled the US Leg of her Oral Fixation tour last year.

Reports were that the tour made more than $100M.

Seems like Live Nation made a good investment in Shaki! .

interesting, i wonder how much control they are giving her, i bet its loads cause she is used to it at sony. also they seem to be focused on making money from touring rather than albums. which means more shakira live. if she has signed then i see things moving quickly after she leaves sony.

coming up we have the final english album with sony, followed by the world tour then the quick greatest hits release with sony. then she has to deliver her first album for live nation and tour that. i don't think she can keep them waiting 3 or 4 years between albums. i think it will be 2 years maximum. damn i wish i could see the details of the contract :naughty:

its cool that live nation were involved with her last tour and kept the ticket priced down and very reasonable compared to madonna's inflated prices but i think live nation want to make as much money as possible with madonna cause they signed her and jay-z up for too much money. and need to make profit cause they over spent. $70 millions sound good to me.

Shakira has reportedly become the latest act to sign a 360-degree deal with promoter Live Nation, following in the footsteps of Madonna and Jay Z.

Reports in the US claim the singer has signed a 10-year deal with Live Nation encompassing tours, recordings, sponsorship and merchandise.

Sources close to the deal quoted in the US press say the deal is worth between $70m and $100m (£35m to £50m).

Three albums are reportedly left on Shakira's contract with Epic Records, but the touring and other rights of the Live Nation deal begin immediately.

The news comes little more than a week after Michael Cohl stepped down as chief executive of Live Nation because of a disagreement over the company’s strategy of signing high-profile artists to 360 degree deals.

This is really amazing! :o especially since they're trying to sign her with 3 albums left for ony

Although I was certain it was just one?

i think its two  i don't think its 3 cause why would live nation sign her if she isn't nearing finishing the contract. her sony schedule should look like this:

english album = spring 2009

greatest hits = late 2009

then next era could be a english/spanish split like the fixation albums) with live nation. in 2011 (unlikely) or 2012 (possibly) or 2013 (following the pattern of 4 years between eras)

but what i want to know is for how many albums have live nation signed her for? they must know she takes her time between albums (up to 4 years) between eras. so if they have her for 10 years, is it a 3 album contact? i can't imagine shakira having 4 different eras in 10 years!! i think its a 5 album including unplugged/live album and GH album. if it is then paying $70 million- $100 milion for that is incredible considering the current financial climate.

After months of speculation and despite internal turmoil over the nature of these deals, concert promotion company Live Nation has signed Shakira to a 10-year contract worth an estimated $70 to $100 million. Shakira joins the likes of Madonna and Jay-Z as superstars who have come to terms with the concert giant for full-scale deals that include touring, album releases and merchandising opportunities (though the specific terms of the Shakira deal were not disclosed). The Colombian star still owes three albums to her old label, Epic, but her the touring aspect of her Live Nation deal will take effect immediately.
