Posted July 13, 200817 yr Margaret Thatcher is to be given the ultimate accolade of a State funeral when she reaches the end of her days – the first British Prime Minister since Winston Churchill to be afforded such an honour. But the possibility of a formal procession could be jeopardised by fears that there are insufficient troops available to line the route because the Armed Forces are so overstretched in Afghanistan and Iraq. Although Lady Thatcher is currently in good health – she was with the Queen at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday – The Mail on Sunday has learned that plans are under way for her funeral, when the time eventually comes, to take place at St Paul’s Cathedral. The Queen and Gordon Brown are both in discussions with Lady Thatcher’s private office concerning the arrangements. This does not reflect any concern over Lady Thatcher’s health, but simply the prudent long-term planning necessary for any event involving the Queen. It has not yet been decided whether the 82-year-old former Conservative leader will lie in state in Westminster Hall. To date the only Prime Minister in the 20th and 21st centuries to be given this honour was Churchill. There were four non-Royal State funerals in the 19th century – Nelson, Wellington, Palmerston and Gladstone. see whole article here: http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/article...ets-London.html Will you queue up to watch this spectacle? Think I will be washing my hair that day, so will give it a miss.
July 13, 200817 yr I would attend the lying in state too if that happened and I would certainly attend the funeral This remarkable lady deserves a grand send off when the sad day comes which hopefully won't be for a good few years yet
July 13, 200817 yr :manson: I don't think there will be many from Scotland taking the low road to London for the funeral. Might be a few street parties though... Sorry, don't mean to be glib and I would never 'celebrate' Maggie's passing but My God, she is so detested up here.
July 13, 200817 yr Fukk that evil b**ch.... <_< I would go along only to cheer at her passing and have a party or a barbecue... Thatcher dying would be a cause for celebration not for national mourning.....
July 14, 200817 yr Fukk that evil b**ch.... <_< I would go along only to cheer at her passing and have a party or a barbecue... Thatcher dying would be a cause for celebration not for national mourning..... full agreement ...lol.. ill be celebrating, not mourning, she does NOT deserve a state funeral, ffs.... just look at her legacy...
July 14, 200817 yr ill be celebrating, not mourning, she does NOT deserve a state funeral, ffs.... just look at her legacy... Churchill saved us from Hitler... He stopped Nazis from invading us, building concentration camps and exterminating everyone who didn't have blonde hair and blue eyes..... Thatcher destroyed communities, turned people against one another, created Chav Culture, created the "greed is good" philosophy..... If anyone should have gotten a State Funeral, it damn well should have been Aneurin Bevan, the architect of the National Health Service his contribution to the citizens of this country will stand as being the greatest achievement of the Post War time..... The Canadians honoured Tommy Douglas who created their NHS by hailing him the "Greatest Canadian"... Bevan certainly deserves to be honoured a damn sight more than the evil b**ch in blue..... If Thatcher had been around in the Post-War period, we'd've probably had bloody HMOs like they do in the States where people even with Health Insurance get screwed out of treatment at any opportunity.....
July 14, 200817 yr full agreement ...lol.. ill be celebrating, not mourning, she does NOT deserve a state funeral, ffs.... just look at her legacy... Even aside from her economic successes like at the time of her reign record low inflation and the 4th most powerful economy in the world she is an iconic figure, longest serving prime minister of the 20th century if not ever, first prime minister to win 3 successive elections, first woman prime minister so regardless of what an anyone thinks of her she is a political colossus

The economy, blah blah... Well that particular illusion got shattered on Black Wednesday.... All these bloody City wide-boys getting their comeuppance.... "Boom and Bust" was Thatcher's doing mate, you cant quite pin that one solely on Major, at the end of the day, he was doing what his Master commanded, like all the others did..... The economy is nothing more than an illusion built upon a house of cards..... And now it's all happening again..... -_- And Thatcher would NEVER have even gotten a second term in office without the Falklands I reckon.... That seriously saved her bacon and she rode the wave of pathetic Tabloid jingoism for all it was worth.... -_- "Oooooh what a LUVVERLLLY WAAAAAAARRRRRR". Well, not if you were a teenage Argentinian conscript on the Belgrano that is...... <_<
July 14, 200817 yr Will you queue up to watch this spectacle? I'd probably go just to make sure the b/tch was dead! Norma
July 14, 200817 yr I hope she lives for many years to come, myself. The sight of her mumbling her words, more incoherent and nonsensical than she used to be, of her looking frail and doddery...and of course her numerous rather hilarious public strokes and fainting fits..... they brighten my day no end. State funeral? Oh please.... I sincerely hope the IRA come out of retirement for that one.... a fitting memorial would be for a massive bomb to be planted in the church when the old bast*rd's lying in state. Evil, vile, murderous old b**ch who deserves every minute she'll get rotting in hell. I'm ashamed middle-England ex-yuppie lardy arses like Tim Barnes are members here.
July 14, 200817 yr In a word NO. Still when the day comes I will be playing this song over and over in "Tribute" to the most morally socially bankrupt Prime Minister of the 20th Century: K-BZIWSI5UQ Elvis Costello - Tramp The Dirt Down (1989) I saw a newspaper picture from the political campaign A woman was kissing a child, who was obviously in pain She spills with compassion, as that young child's face in her hands she grips Can you imagine all that greed and avarice coming down on that child's lips Well I hope I don't die too soon I pray the Lord my soul to save Oh I'll be a good boy, I'm trying so hard to behave Because there's one thing I know, I'd like to live long enough to savour That's when they finally put you in the ground I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down When England was the whore of the world Margaret was her madam And the future looked as bright and as clear as the black tarmacadam Well I hope that she sleeps well at night, isn't haunted by every tiny detail 'Cos when she held that lovely face in her hands all she thought of was betrayal And now the cynical ones say that it all ends the same in the long run Try telling that to the desperate father who just squeezed the life from his only son And how it's only voices in your head and dreams you never dreamt Try telling him the subtle difference between justice and contempt Try telling me she isn't angry with this pitiful discontent When they flaunt it in your face as you line up for punishment And then expect you to say "Thank you" straighten up, look proud and pleased Because you've only got the symptoms, you haven't got the whole disease Just like a schoolboy, whose head's like a tin-can filled up with dreams then poured down the drain Try telling that to the boys on both sides, being blown to bits or beaten and maimed Who takes all the glory and none of the shame Well I hope you live long now, I pray the Lord your soul to keep I think I'll be going before we fold our arms and start to weep I never thought for a moment that human life could be so cheap 'Cos when they finally put you in the ground They'll stand there laughing and tramp the dirt down
July 14, 200817 yr I'd probably go just to make sure the b/tch was dead! Norma I think you'll find that the vast majority of the attendees will be exactly the same.... Of course, on TV you wont see that, naah, only the Young Conservative-types will be in evidence, the vast majority of ordinary people whose lives she ruined will be WELL out of camera shot and probably be herded in like cattle by the Stasi.... Ooops, sorry, I meant to say the Metropolitan Police...... After all, cant have any placards with "Rot in Hell B/itch" on TV can we....?

July 14, 200817 yr  Apart from everybody's dislike for Thatcher in this thread its got to be a bad idea with regards to money. Surely something like this would cost a bomb! and who pays for it?
July 14, 200817 yr Author  Apart from everybody's dislike for Thatcher in this thread its got to be a bad idea with regards to money. Surely something like this would cost a bomb! and who pays for it? You, me and the rest of the taxpayers
July 15, 200817 yr  Apart from everybody's dislike for Thatcher in this thread its got to be a bad idea with regards to money. Surely something like this would cost a bomb! and who pays for it? Exactly.... Why should I pay my taxes for a lavish State funeral for someone whom I utterly detested....?
July 15, 200817 yr Exactly.... Why should I pay my taxes for a lavish State funeral for someone whom I utterly detested....? Aside from the economic successes of her premiership and creating the 4th strongest economy in the world Margaret Thatcher has done more for women than any living person Until Maggie came along a woman in a high position in industry, a woman in the boardroom, women in the very highest levels of the medical and legal professions were as common as snow in August but because of Maggie making prime minister it showed women they can succeed in male dominated environments and are more than baby and food makers and now women in boardrooms and high positions in industry is the NORM and that is thanks almost entirely to Maggie, she paved the way and transformed women in the workplace forever, the modern career woman owes everything to Maggie, she raised the aspirations of women. And she invented Angel Delight which is a food that is enjoyed by millions across the nation before she even became a politician but while that does not deserve a state funeral what she has done for women does Edited July 15, 200817 yr by Tim Barnes

And she invented Angel Delight which is a food that is enjoyed by millions across the nation before she even became a politician but while that does not deserve a state funeral what she has done for women does Erm, I think she's done a lot more to damage women than help.... You can hardly claim that she's some sort of Feminist Icon, she's anything but.... If she was so in favour of furthering the cause of women, why didn't she put more women into key Govt positions...? In fact, I dont seem to recall her really having ANY other women in her Cabinet... I would say that Blair and Nu Labor have done more to advance women Politically than Thatch did.... I knew there was a reason why I never liked Angel Delight.....
July 15, 200817 yr eh?... she never invented angel delight did she? ... besides its shyte. a feminist icon?... she was anything but! sorry but non of the feminist icons of the day cite her as inspirational, they are all socialists!... i hope they bury her in a slurry pit..... BEFORE shes dead!
