Arctic Monkeys are set to hit the studio this week to begin the recording of their third album.

The band were set to head into the studio sometime over the summer, and it has been confirmed that they will now begin sessions this week.

They decided to bring the sessions forward after being inspired when they all met up at Glastonbury festival a few weeks ago (June 27-29).

According to The Sun, Alex Turner and co will spend two weeks in a Gloucestershire studio, which they have customised to their liking.

:yahoo: Can't wait for this album! At least it's in the making now :D

This 2 week stint should be them getting the album finished tbh...

Who knows, maybe the album might be out this year.

Arctic Monkeys decided to start work on their third album after realising that they missed spending time together.

The Sheffield band announced that they were returning to the studio earlier this month, just days after they met up at the Glastonbury festival, where frontman Alex Turner performed with The Last Shadow Puppets.

A source told The Sun: "The lads don't live in each other's pockets like they used to. Alex is always in London with his missus Alexa Chung while Jamie Cook is mostly in Sheffield.

"But when they got together at Glasto they realised they missed being together as a band. They had a good session and decided they wanted to start on the next album quickly. They've already got loads of songs and loads of ideas. Now it's just about getting it done."

The group's second album Favourite Worst Nightmare made a number one debut when it was released in April 2007.

another update from NME.com

Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford has revealed that he has been signed up to work on Arctic Monkeys' forthcoming third album.

The producer, who also was behind the controls for the band's last album 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', explained that the LP was only in its very early stages of conception, but said that the results may sound more "psychedelic" than previous efforts.

"It's too early to say what sort of direction they'll go in next," he told the Daily Star. "But they've got at least one tune up their sleeves that sounds massive already.

"It's much more psychedelic than the first album (2006's 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'). I wouldn't rule out a bit of R'n'B either – the boys know their stuff."

Good stuff. I love James Ford's work, and the production on the 2nd album was excellent.

I'm betting the one tune they have wrapped up is Sandtrap too...

Gonna be interesting to see if the album is released this year or not then, with Simian Mobile Disco releasing their new album in the next few months I presume he'll be quite busy with that...

Yeah he will. But I imagine the new Simian Mobile Disco album will be recorded already, and then all that's holding back the release is putting the final touches to the album and then starting the promo for it. All that's yet to come for the Arctics.

Matt Helders, the drummer from Arctic Monkeys, has revealed that the Sheffield group's third album will be rockier than their previous efforts.

Helders told NME that the record would be in the vein of their single 'Brianstorm' and take influence from Queens Of The Stone Age.

He said: "[it's] not 'heavy metal' heavy - just more aggressive. We're all into Queens Of The Stone Age. When we got to play with them and see them live it gave us a kick up the a***.

"They are an inspiration, they show you can still have top tunes and loud, heavy songs, too. It's a lot more fun playing loud music - simple as that."

Arctic Monkeys are to begin work on their third album when frontman Alex Turner completes his tour with The Last Shadow Puppets.

The new ARCTIC MONKEYS album is still in its early stages and won't appear in the immediate future, their producer has claimed.

It had been rumoured that the Sheffield band were in the studio, but producer James Ford has said he is not yet working on any new material from them.

However, Ford – who is one half of Simian Mobile Disco – revealed he is currently working on several other projects.

"There's no Arctic's stuff happening just yet, they're still in the writing and demo-ing stage, I think," he told BBC 6 Music.

"I'm still currently doing Klaxons’ new record and obviously Simian Mobile Disco’s new record - and I’m gonna be playing live with The Last Shadow Puppets as well so we’re just rehearsing for that tour really."

Ford took production duties on the Arctic's second album FAVOURITE WORST NIGHTMARE and is lined up for their third.

:o Can't wait to hear that collaboration!

Yeah should be ace. I think it's gonna be a B-side, as they don't wanna use it for the album.

I love both bands and i m sure that the final result should be amazing

Arctic Monkeys will collaborate with Queens Of The Stone Age on their new album, say reports.

According to the Daily Star, singer Josh Homme has agreed to work on tracks with the Sheffield band in America.

Homme commented: "We're gonna start by doing a couple of tracks. No pressure.

"The goal is to record something they dig so much everyone else will too."

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner performed at Reading and Leeds Festivals with his side project The Last Shadow Puppets at the weekend.

Speaking about Turner's recent venture, Homme commented: "He's a really smart guy. I think what he's doing now is very brave.

"It's nice to watch somebody make an attempt to really surprise you. Safety in music is really disgusting, you know, so you have to take that leap into the unknown."

I'm not a big QOTSA fan but I did like a few of there recent singles ('Make It With Chu', 'Sick Sick Sick') but it should be good as long as it's not too heavy. The Kills should be great as well, love their stuff!
