Didn't Klaxons also say that? :heehee:

I still think a April 09 release for the album though... they'll DEFINITELY play Reading and Leeds next year imo. And probably T in the Park... not so sure about Glastonbury though. I really do hope they headline Reading and Leeds. But there'll be f*** loads of d!*kh**d chavs near the front trying to mosh.

Did I read the thing wrong? Oh dart @ me if I did.

I'm not sure. I've not read/seen NME in timee. All I know is that I heard Klaxons were gonna play every festival possible. Wouldn't suprise me if Arctic Monkeys did the same, but I can't see them being anything other than headliners for festivals this year, and i'm sure they said they'd never play Glastonbury again for ages?

They did say that? Wonder why, maybe they were just waiting for the right moment to do it again. But yeah they'd probably do Reading/Leeds and a few others next year, especially if the album is a few months before.

I was wondering as well earlier (randomly  ) when they'll actually split up. Wonder if they'll last longer then say, 4 albums? I would think Alex would want to go solo at some point...

I think so. Or maybe it might have been Killers. They'll definitely play Reading and Leeds next year. Headline the Saturday or Sunday night at Leeds... hopefully the Saturday, or else I reckon there might be riots and shiz if they play Sunday night.

Hmm I definitely think they'll last a while. I can't see them splitting up for a while. I think the year break they've had as a band will have done them pretty well. It'll have given them time off for a break (well, except Alex), and they've been out of the limelight, which I know Cookie doesn't really like at all.

They will play R&L, it is pretty much confirmed (headliners are deffo confirmed by now) AM will be on Fri at reading, so sat at Leeds. (and then Green Day and AC/DC also headlining, with Weezer and Slipknot playing too, and Glasvegas headlinging NME stage).

Arctic Monkeys, Green Day and AC/DC is a pretty amazing set of headliners. They do seem a bit heavy though... Sundays normally indie day at Leeds, and Green Day aren't very indie. Primal Scream will headline NME too, maybe with The Wombats taking the other day.

well at Reading it's normally Friday: indie (although this year it was different as Zack wanted to be back in the US for the RNC) Saturday: rock/alternative Sunday: metal.

by the way the bands im 99% are right. i dont reckon primal scream will headline nme as they did in 2006 and they are way to big. Wombats maybe but i reckon they might do V instead.

did you get your ticket presale? i sure did :P

I think Primal Scream will headline NME. Normally the band that play the NME Shockwave tour, headlines NME on the Friday (like Cribs did this year). I wonder if Franz will play Reading and Leeds or V? If they play V, I definitely reckon they'll headline, whereas if they played Reading and Leeds it would likely on be co-headliner.

Nope I didn't! I didn't have enough money, but i'm not worried about missing out on a ticket. I did alright getting one last year, and hopefully I should have no problems this year!

nah primal Scream are on the rock n roll riot tour, it's glasvegas on the shockwave tour, which is why they will headline on the sunday (friday leeds) like cribs this year lol. i reckon primal would pull to big a crowd for nme, and i dont reckon they would want to repeat the headliner so soon, i reckon maybe mainstage though.

I hope Franz do play but they did headline 2006. but i reckon they could co headline (with AM), im not sure, maybe V for them this year.

all the reading memories are coming back to me now, i miss it :(

I miss Leeds too. I think i'll enjoy it much more this time, as I know what to expect. As long as it doesn't p*** it down again i'll be fine.

Klaxons will definitely play too... mainstage for them this time I think. Hopefully Franz will play as well, but I really see them playing V. I want Kings of Leon to play too! They'd be an amazing co-headliner for Green Day.

yeah Klaxons will be mainstage, i wont see them though :puke2: pretty likley they will play though.

actually i have been hearing KOL, but i'd think they would have to headline, especially after Glastonbury and also their massive crowd at Reading 2007. so i think it would be AM or KOL on friday, but im pretty sure AM are booked to headline, whihc would mean no KOL or maybe KOL as co-headliner to GD.

Was it your first time this year? :o i have been since 2006 so i always know what to expect :P i doubt next year will top this year, it was just too good. and also they will never get a better band than Rage, who really made this year special.

I've heard rumours of Kings of Leon too, but i'm very sure that if Arctic Monkeys were going to play any festivals this year, Reading and Leeds would be top of their list! I could see Kings of Leon being co-headliners though... but their last album has been massive, so who knows.

Yep was my first time this year! I thought the line-up last year was good, but I missed quite a few bands i'd like to have seen. I really wasn't fond of the mainstage, was too cold, muddy and the sound was absolutely awful. Was much better in the NME tent, or the FR stage - better atmosphere and stuff. The two best bands I saw all weekend were in the NME tent and FR stage.

last year it was all about the NME stage for me, but this year the line up was too good on mainstage that i was there more.

i missed loads of bands, i spent way more time p***ing around in the campsite.

best stage for me though is Lock-up best atmosphere.

I spent much more time in the campsite than I anticipated. Mainly because I couldnt be arses trecking through the mud which was about 12 inches deep!

I never went to the Lock-Up or Dance stage. I hear good things about it though for atmosphere. I loved the FR stage. It's atmosphere was v.good, especially for Friendly Fires.

i didnt go in FR stage once  wanted to see Los Campesinos! but they clashed with w.a.s. saw a couple of bands on the stage last year though.

FR's pretty good. If you get to the front (which is pretty easy) it's just full of proper fans who know all their songs and stuff. Which is why I loved Friendly Fires so much. They put on a reet good show and properly got involved with the crowd. And add that to the fact there weren't a load of t**** trying to start mosh pits.

Festival Republic is such a bad name though. They need to get some more sponsorship deals worked out.

[i know it's late],

Arctic Monkeys & Queens Of The Stone Age, brilliant!! It'll defiantly give them a harder sound, and will pull them away from the annoying generic-indie scene (even though they're not generic, the sound I think needs to break away from it), if anyone gets what I mean?

Yes I get what you mean :P I've ranted enough about it on here but I hate the way the record companies called their watered down clones of Arctics and Bloc that sing about getting drunk and hating their jobs 'Indie' It's stolen the identity of real indie bands and I never know whether to hit or laugh at people in skinny jeans etc. who think they're so 'indie' when they probably like The Pigeon Detectives instead of Vampire Weekend.

I'm with you, move away from the rubbish, let the rubbish die, let Indie regain it's identity and let it go back to only the good indie bands (like AM and Bloc did) break into the mainstream. :cheer:

Band debut tracks at 'first gig in over a year'

Arctic Monkeys played four new songs in New Zealand last night (January 12) as they played their first gig in "over a year".

The Sheffield band played 'Dangerous Animals', 'Pretty Visitors', 'Go-Kart' - which frontman Alex Turner introduced as being called 'Would You Like Me To Build You A Go-Kart?' - and 'Crying Lightning' at Wellington Town Hall.

After opening with former B-side 'Da Frame 2R', Turner said: "Hello everyone, this is our first gig for about a year, so you might have to bear with us."

The Sheffield band have been recording with Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, and made the most of the pause in work on their third record to play the new songs.

Towards the end of the night, a cocktail-sipping Turner told the crowd he was playing a "new one with a Les Paul" before performing 'Go-Kart'.

Some of new material saw the band using a little toy piano and a slide guitar.

The set also included plenty of the band's favourites, plus a cover of Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds' 'Red Right Hand' in the encore.

Arctic Monkeys played:

'Da Frame 2R'

'This House Is A Circus'

'Still Take You Home'

'The View From The Afternoon'

'Dancing Shoes'

'Dangerous Animals'

'From The Ritz To The Rubble'

'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'

'Pretty Visitors'

'Brianstorm'

'When The Sun Goes Down'

'Leave Before The Lights Come On'

'Go-Kart'

'Crying Lightning'

'Fluorescent Adolescent'

'Do Me A Favour'

'Red Right Hand'

'If You Were There, Beware'

The band are now due to play the Big Day Out Festival in New Zealand and Australia before continuing work on their third album.

Where you at the gig? What did you think of the new songs? Post your opinion below.
