Talent means nothing. Manufactured or not, if they're promoted right people will like them and people like manufactured music, i'll admit to liking a tiny bit myself, so if you have talent these days, it doesn't really matter tbh.

The thing with McFly is they have this sort of 13 year old girl image, and I think that's what puts people off liking them. You only have to listen to a few of their songs and see they're marketed towards a young audience, I mean the 5 Colours video was shot PURELY to attract young girls to like them, and you can tell that by just about every scene in the video. Nowadays they're getting a bit more mature with their music though, but once you're given an image it's hard to shrug off no matter how good you are. McFly trying to shed their teenage girl image is just the same as Charlie Simpson trying to shed his pop image and reality TV winners trying to shed that image. It takes time.

People also show a dislike to McFly because of the tactics they've used to get #1 records - they do kinda cheat, which takes it away from other acts who want #1 records also, and maybe they don't have too good sales, but at the end of the day they can say they've had X number of #1 singles and regardless of the sales, that's something to be proud of. I can see why people can be put off by them because of their fans too (i'm the same), but none of my friends have been McFly fans (well bar one) so i've never had to come across the mad fans, who I agree, if they're stupid enough, can put you off liking the actual band. As for them being arrogant too, well I can kinda relate to that because if I were in that position at that age i'd probably be exactly the same... boys will be boys afterall.

Good answer!

Wow i've sparked something here haha

The thing i like about Mcfly is that they arn't fake....they play their own instruments and always perform live ( i know that because i used to be obsessed :o )

I think they've been given the short straw where image is concerned because they do sometimes only appeal to one set audience.

However i have been to see them twice (and will be going again this year) and you really have to have been to one of these performances to see the range of fans they do have, they always have sell out tours and no-body leaves the shows un happy....so i think people should just button up sometimes about how BAD they are. Because if they were THAT bad they wouldn't be where they are today. Criticise that answer if you will, but i feel it's unfair to disregard the fact that they have to be good to make the mark that they have in the music industry.

I also agree with the beatles comment, they beat one of the beatles records in fact :)

Who cares if they're beating Beatles records? If they manage to sell of 1 billion records, does that make them better than the Beatles?

I personally just find it hard to get into their music. It just doesn't appeal to me, in the same way that a Metallica album most probably wouldn't appeal to a Rihanna fan. ;)

What if McFly teamed up with one of your fave bands, would u be willing to give it a listen?

This lot have the charisma of Leon Jackson, the arrogance of Shayne Ward and the monotony of Steve Brookstein

Yes, that's my view manufactured and bland, I just think without Busted they wouldn't have had the 'success' they have had, I'm sick of them so much so that I'll come back and edit my rant because I need time to put it all together

The thing is, there are lots of artists that i don't like (in my personal taste in music) but McFly really do get to me because of how they do get to #1. If for example their new one got to #1 and the following weeks didn't drop like a stone then yeah, i'll have a bit more respect for them. The fact is their total sales add up to #14 record not a #1 meaning the only people that buy Mcfly records are mostly the addictive fans and they can't grab a new audience. Next week will be interesting to see if this continues.

Oh and Mcfly haven't got a patch on The Beatles and yes they have beaten 1 record - Mcfly were younger when they got their 1st #1 - S Club Juniors nearly beat that - does that mean they're better then The Beatles?

In a few years Westlife could potentially have more #1s than The Beatles - does that mean their better. (at least Westlife have millions of sales to back this theory up, Mcfly haven't)

I like them :cheer: Seen them live before too ^_^ and also own 4 of their singles in original ^_^ But I USED to be a fan I liked their first album ALOT and wasnt too impressed with the second so i didn't bother with the third but Transylvania and their newest one 'One For The Radio' are both really good ^_^

So I used to love them but I only like them now. But in the Sunday predictions topic it may seem i LOVE them still :o

Must say I totally agree with 'Transylvania' a pretty immense song which I still listen to. I quite liked their first album; 'Obviously' was a song which I feel deserved all the success it got and 'Room on the Third Floor' was another favorite. I think the last few songs however have been very formulaic, neither classic pop nor anything innovative. I'll be getting the Mail for their new album though.

I don't actually mind them and I like a few of their songs ('I Wanna Hold You' being my favourite). The last few singles since about 'Star Girl' have been totally forgettable though, I don't even remember how any of them go... and that includes the new one.

i like their new single and a few of their old ones.

not really interested in them though.

I think one thing I like about McFly is that they are evidently very good friends, as are several other bands, and you can tell that they aren't ones for packing it in any time soon due to hating each other and hating being around each other.

Also, Lies is my new favourite song.

It's worth a listen.

lol. You like Mcfly because they are friends?

lol. You like Mcfly because they are friends?

Not only because of that,

That would be sad. It would make me look like a bit of a loner.

I've got & am playing their new CD Radio:ACTIVE that was available with today's Sunday Mail.

And you know what, it really is surprisingly good.

One For The Radio is probably the most like the old McFly sound. But the rest of the album is musically more adventurous.

Ok this ones going to be long.

I got that deal 3 for £4 and got this dvd with it. And in watching i earnt a hell of alot of respect for them. Because they are so talented and you really see it in this dvd. Tom said that they wrote 'One For The Radio' when they were making their first album, but got the feeling the other lads didn't like it..... which is probably why it sounds like the rest of their stuff.

I have their new album on at the moment, and i have to say im impressed. They also say on the dvd that they think its their best work which is why they wanted to release it in the paper....so it reached a wider audience.

(oh i wasn't saying they were better then the beatles. Pschhhh)

Bu the thing is, Think about it, mcfly have made such a mark on the industry, just look at this post. Like every other band in the industry not everyone is going to like them. But they are VERY popular. Weather you like it or not they've had the greatest success people of their ages should get. They've spent a year in AUS independently recording this album, at their own speed there was no deadlines....and it shows. Its the best album in my opinion. And i think if your ever going to give them an ounce of a chance now is the time to do it. They're slowly shaking away the image, i doubt they'll ever get rid of the fanbase.....but its not like it matters.

People should cut them some slack, they're four guys making music the way they love to do it.

The reason people that like them get so angry is because the way the haters portray them is so wrong its unbelievable.

I know a hell of alot of your are going to disagree with me....but the thing is, they wern't a one hit wonder. And that sometimes makes me wonder if thats the reason some hate them......pschhhh

as for the busted thing.....they're friends with James Bourne....who technically got them started....so the more you insult Mcfly the more you insult him.

Busted were great as a threesome but the second they split, when Matt went solo, Charlie made Fightstar and Jmaes made SOD none of them took off. So at least Mcfly have stayed true to themselves and not given up just because of a little negativity.

Fair enough if they arn't your cup of tea.....i just think its unfair to say they're untalented.

*breathes*

Over and Out :)

^^ you go girl, I hate to meet you in a dark alley :heehee:

Ewwwwww how many other people have just had to buy the Daily Nazi just for the album? :(

I took the album out and was going to throw the paper away but my mum wanted to the read the 'You' magazine so I couldn't

Edited by Grandwicky

I was hoping the GH would be the last we heard of mcfly.

I'm sick of seeing them take their clothes off for cheap publicity - its just cheapness on a grand scale allover with them.

I like them, I wouldn't say I'm a fan particularly but they make catchy songs and I do own the GH. I've never been afraid to chart them in my personal chart or anything. I don't understand why so many people on here hate on them.

If you want to be cynical, 4 (well, at least 3) good-looking guys frequently appearing nude making catchy pop is JUST Buzzjack's kind of thing if you ask me :heehee:
