Well as ThisIsPop is going to be compiling BuzzJack's Top 100 Artists Of All Time I thought I'd do more than just post it in the thread and count them down as I like doing this kind of thing! :D I put it in here opposed to anyone else as it's where the majority of the artists come from and I don't want it getting lost in Personal Charts amongst everyone telling each other every day how much they LOVE the new Jordin Sparks song.

The list is about how much I like an artist rather than how good I think they are. I know, for example, that Bjork and Radiohead are more talented than say Coldplay, but only one of those features in the countdown.... ^_^ -_- The list is generally fairly recentish, though there are a few acts who started releasing music before I was born (1989). I shall start it tomorrow and it should hopefully take no longer than a week to finish. All comments (good or bad) are welcomed!

Of the 40 artists, 1 is Canadian, 20 English, 2 French, 3 Scottish, 1 Swedish, 11 American and 3 Welsh.

1 act released their first album in the 1960s, 1 in the '70s, 6 in the '80s, 14 in the 90s and 17 in the 00s.

All but one act have released atleast two studio albums. 8 have released an album so far this year, one of them today!

I love these kinds of things and pretty much most of the music I like would be classed as Indie/Alternative anyway, so I'll be interested to see what you like

Primal Scream. :P

Really looking forward to this!

I'm hoping that Biffy are one of the Scottish ones!

40 Maximo Park

For a long time I was a huge fan of Maximo Park being obsessed with 'A Certain Trigger' for a good 18 months, I still use the username 'Maximo Mark' on the other forums which I post on. They lost their way with what I thought was a poor second album but are still included because of how much I did love them.

Favourite track:

Apply Some Pressure

Also worth a listen: Going Missing, Our Velocity, The Coast Is Always Changing

Maximo Park are alright, but not amazing.

Apply Some Pressure is there best song by far though.

39 Pulp

I've never quite been able to get into Pulp as much as I'd like to. Whilst their albums are good I've never been able to appreciate them as much I think I should. Still have some class songs though.

Favourite track:

Common People

Also worth a listen: Babes, I Spy, Sorted For E's & Wizz

38 Stereophonics

Emarassing I know. Though like Maximo Park, they're only in here because of how much I did like them. When I was about 9 they were my favourite band, and it lasted for about 3 years until they released 'JEEP' and then, much like Oasis, after a great debut and decent second album everything else they produced was sub-standard dad-rock not much better than Ocean Colour Scene with the occasional decent song (Vegas Two Times, Dakota). I still maintain that 'Word Gets Around' is a cracking album.

Faourite track:

The Bartender And The Thief

Also worth a listen: A Thousand Trees, Local Boy In The Photograph, T-Shirt Sun Tan

i only like earlier Stereophonics, but the earlier albums are amazing.

37 Sufjan Stevens

One of the more obscure acts to feature in the 40. He did originally say he would make an album for every US state but after doing only 'Michigan' and 'Illinois' in his 8 years in music so far has now confirmed that it won't be happening. His multi-instrumental indie sound won;t be for everyone but I think it's great. Does often have very long song titles.

Favourite track:

Chicago

Also worth a listen: Come On! Feel The Illinoise, For The Windows In Paradise, They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From The Dead!! Ahhhh!

36 The Shins

A band who I'd heard of but never really came to my attention until last year when they released 'Wincing The Night Away', a glorious album proving indie-pop isn't always completely dull. I soon bought their other albums and whilst I don't think they're as good, they're still decent.

Favourite track:

Sleeping Lessons

Also worth a listen: Australia, Caring Is Creepy, Turn On Me

35 The Beatles

I do wish I was around when the Beatles were as I feel I don't like them as much as I should. Although I don't dislike any of their songs I've never really felt compelled to buy beyond their best ofs, I tend to find they're enough...

Favourite track:

Strawberry Fields Forever

Also worth a listen: A Day In The Life, Eleanor Rigby, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

34 Massive Attack

It was a long while before I really managed to appreciate Massive Attack but I certainly do now. For a long time I'd brushed them aside as one of those acts (Radiohead, Portishead, Bjork..) who, as talented as they are, I'd just never be able to get into. Their best of certainly won me round though, stunning.

Favourite track:

Teardrop

Also worth a listen: Inertia Creeps, Safe From Harm, Unfinished Sympathy

The Beatles a 10/10 band obviously

Massive Attack pretty damn good.

33 System Of A Down

Although this type of music isn't really my thing, I've always had a soft spot for SOAD from when I first heard 'Toxicity' (the single). I didn't buy an album by them until 'Mezmerize' but I've since worked backwards. I think all of their albums are atleast good.

Favourite track:

Prison Song

Also worth a listen: BYOB, Chop Suey, Lost In Hollywood
