Really like Guillemots but I agree that their second album lacks something :(

Sometimes I find his work a bit difficult to get into, but with time I fully appreicate it, most of it is pure genious, he's easily the most underrated act of the last 15 years. All of his era's although different, are great. I still like the stuff he makes now...

Although everything Libs related has lost its way since 2004 they did make some absolutely stunning songs when they were at their peak. Pete Doherty may be a complete w*n**r, but 'Up The Bracket' is rightly regarded as one of the decade's finest albums. Had 'What A Waster' and 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun' been included on it it would be a much stronger contender for my favourite album of all time. As it is, there are only really two albums worthy... The follow-up was ok, but was pretty ropey in places.

I think the most underrated band to come out of the 'Britpop' era. OK they have a fair amount of well performing and highly rated singles but they've always been really consistand and their stunning Singles Collection shows it.

They came from pretty much nowhere to take 'Indie' slightly higher than the likes of The Killers, Razorlight and Franz Ferdinand had managed to; to the top of the singles and albums charts. Although they came out of nowhere to the vast majority of people I'd been listening to demos of theirs for a long time and knew I'd be excited by the album. Although I haven;t really loved either album (I think both have a fair bit of filler) they can make just as good a 12 track best of as most bands in here could do.

They've been an act I've loved ever since I first heard anything by them. I appreciate they aren't for everyone but I adore them, their mixture of various different types of electronic music is so good, a pioneer to many, although little success. Fellow Swede José González took one of their songs to higher places thanks to a Sony Ad with a wonderful version of their best song 'Heartbeats'. It was everything a cover should be. I've never been able to decide whether 'Deep Cuts' or 'Silent Shout' is best, I always go for the former because I've known it longer...

Another criminally underrated band. Every album they release manages to be completely different from the last and still be wonderful, even their last album which many people thought was a bit weak I loved. I do think 'Last Broadcast' is their best though.

Another band you might describe as 'electronica' they're always a band I can turn to listen to no matter what mood I'm in. Consistantly good, but 'Moon Safari' (my favourite album of the 90s) is by some distance their finest work.

Their material may have been a bit ropey in recent times but they did remain a consistantly great act for a long while. I don't think they ever released a bad album although nothing really touches 'The Holy Bible'

Although they've only ever made one album of any real worth it is one of the two albums I rank higher than anything else and therefore they get such a high placing. The stuff from 'Second Coming' isn't particularly awfu, just really poot in comparison to the self-titled debut.

Favourite track:

I Am The Resurrection (8 minutes of pure genious)

The highest placed act with less than three albums to their name. Like most people, I was drawn in with the hype surrounding debut album 'Funeral' which I only bought once I'd heard 'Rebellion (Lies)' as somehow the previous singles hadn't really done much for me. It took a while to appreciate fully but it really is a great album and rightfully acclaimed as being so. Their second album, although not as great, was still an excellent piece of work, just as 'The Arcade Fire EP' is.

My Pixies love started when I bought 'Doolittle' in 2005 and grew from there. 'Doolittle' is still by far my favourite work of theirs but all of their stuff is pretty fantastic, they produced so much great music in such a short space of time.

Favourite track:

Debaser

Also worth a listen: Here Comes Your Man, Velouria, Wave Of Mutilation, Where Is My Mind?

Fantastic chart so far!

I like the following:

40 Maximo Park

39 Pulp

37 Sufjan Stevens

35 The Beatles

34 Massive Attack

32 Coldplay

31 The Cure

30 Daft Punk

29 Depeche Mode

28 Muse

26 The Postal Service

25 The Smiths

24 Super Furry Animals

23 Franz Ferdinand

22 Guillemots

20 The Libertines

19 Supergrass

18 Arctic Monkeys

14 Manic Street Preachers

13 The Stone Roses

12 Arcade Fire

11 Pixies

For most of the others, I haven't heard enough of their music to form a proper opinion, although there are some I dislike [stereophonics, SOAD, for instance].

But overall, excellent music in this thread
