i quite like the a.m. they play the type of music that made britain world leaders, good honest working class pop, ala kinks, who, jam, etc... ok they are generic, but thats hard to escape from 40 years on..

now what im thinking... all the tracks ive heard to date are very sameish, have they the talent to grow? take oasis, 12 years ago they were laudered as the next big thing, indeed they were very popular. however after 'whats the story...' they lost their ability somewhat to bang out a decent tune, becoming very bland imho.. will the arctic monkeys follow that route? have they the scope to develop? or will they become bland, sameish, 'eminemn-ised' lyrics going over and over the same ground?

As I've said in an other thread I think they'll probably at least another two albums because the fanbase is just too strong ;) Even if the second album is crap it'll definitely sell well but considering how much more material they have up their sleeves already and Alex seems to have plenty of ideas of what to write about. ;) But then again even U2 have had a couple of bad albums in the past *coughPopcough* but I don't think ANYONE will be able to be the phenominan they are and apart from that album have been very consistant in the past 20 years and to this day are still bringing in new fans with their old AND new material. ^_^ It's hard to be able to say whether the Arctics will do be producing material as good as they have been produced already a few years down the line as obviously it's just their first album and as I said it seems Alex Turner has plently of idea lyrically but over time they'll have to find a way of avoiding "doing an Oasis" (which was your question) and actually change their sound slightly and with that tbh I can't really imagine them sounding any different but they've suprised me in the past when new I got more and more new demos so who knows what could happen. ;)

Changing the sound slightly is what actually got me to notice The Strokes though as Juicebox and a few of their other songs on the album are quite different to their previous albums and so this time they've stood out for me and I must say I quite like them now as much as the album was slightly disappointing and didn't move on from the previous two as much as it looked like it was going to.

I think the second album will sell less than the first album at firdt, and overall I think their fan base it too big at the moment. Oasis were in exactly the same situation but I honestley think they began to write crap songs because Liam couldn't be arsed anymore. I don't think AM will end up in the same situation.
