I went into a shop in Exeter today just for a browse and ended up with this little lot for £9.90!

Singles

Blur - Out of Time

Beta Band - Assessment

Elbow - Red CD 1+2

Elbow - Any Day Now EP

John Squire - Room in Brooklyn

80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster - I Could Be An Angle

Albums

Grease Soundtrack

Kylie Minogue - Light Years (2CD Edition)

Leatherface - Disco Dog

NME Domino Records Compilation

Super Furry Animals - Love Kraft

REM - Automatic for the People

I also got Stiff Little Fingers - Nobody's Heroes for a quid from another shop.

I know it's not all retro but I had to share this little haul.

What's your greatest discovery in a charity shop?

That is really impressive.

I forget which newspaper/music magazine there is.

But there is a writer who is given £33.33 per month to buy records from charity/second hand music stores, with the aim of seeing what he can buy for the money at the end of the month.

Now that is a genius concept.

i used to frequent them in the 70's when i was collecting 60's vinyl..

with the advent of punk alot of people bought retro clothing from them too.. my sister has quite abit and recently gave a 50's dress to clare , i must say, she looks great in it!

I think I bought a CD single from Oxfam... what was it now... ah! Gwen Guthrie "Ain't Nothin Going On But The Rent".

Now that is a track!

Charity shops are amazing and half my music collection is from them.

The age of it varies so much but in a lot of cases, so cheap - I've bought albums on tape from 1984 and CD singles from 1989 (which must be rare as CDs didn't really catch on until the 90s), all the way up to recent ones. Just the other day I got 'Now That's What I Call Music 60' and Madonna's 'Confessions on a Dancefloor' from them, the first was 50p and the second was £1 - just three years ago, when both were released, they'd have been about a tenner each!!

So if you've got charity shops and a big HMV or Zavvi in your town, it's always best to check the charity shop first to see if they've got what you want cheaper!

I have found many a bargain in charity shops with CDs and even cassettes.

My best purchase was a rare CD single of "Mama/Who do you think you are" by the Spice Girls! Yesterday when I visited my friend in Lincoln, he found an album of Celia Lawson! (She was Portugal's 1997 representive in Eurovision and got 0)
