Just seen the trailer for the Ellen Page film Hard Candy in the cinema tonight. Think this will be the next breakout cult hit after Brick, it was totally the best trailer tonight among all the other horror/slasher films such as the omen and reeker (was before When A Stranger), very creepy with undertones of films such as Audition (however i wouldnt expect it to get up to the extremeness of Takashi Miike's works  ) and i think it will be a film that people will be talking about over summer a lot.

See in here in from IMDB @

Yeah, I saw this too the other night and it looks well good. I hope it is as shocking as it makes out, I haven't seen a decent shocker in ages - Hostel was such a let down.

Claustrophobic and brightly colored, this tightly wound psychological thriller is constantly pulling the rug out from under the viewer, mostly due to the tense, explosive performances of its two main characters. The tale opens with a coffee shop rendezvous between 14-year-old Haley (the fantastic Ellen Page) and 32-year-old fashion photographer Jeff (Patrick Wilson), who have previously met only online in a chat room. Despite his questionable enthusiasm at meeting a girl half his age, Jeff comes off as slightly awkward and shy; rather, it’s Haley who is unnervingly forthright in her flirtation. She suggests that they go back to his place, he complies, and, once there, Haley seductively convinces him to take pictures of her. She exhibits a beguiling mixture of innocence and precocious sexuality, but before anything happens between them, Jeff passes out under the influence of the drugs she’s slipped him. When he wakes up, Haley drops her innocent demeanor and begins to undertake a meticulously planned game of retribution against her captive pedophile. She hacks into his computer and ransacks his house while he watches helplessly, and she ultimately raises the ante with a surgical procedure sure to make audiences squirm. The exact nature of Jeff’s guilt remains nebulous, however, creating an intriguing uncertainty surrounding Haley’s own mental state, and just how psychotic she might be. Expectations are continuously thwarted as the two characters--neither of whom is terribly sympathetic--enact a psychological and physical game of cat and mouse that is as fascinating to watch as a train wreck.

must be a bloody good film. The Mail on Sunday gave it one star

CONSENSUS

Disturbing, controversial, but entirely engrossing, Hard Candy is well written with strong lead performances, especially that of newcomer Ellen Page. A movie that stays with the viewer long after leaving the theater.

Then you shouldn't watch it, it's an "18" cert....

I was only exagerrating, I'm 15 really! [Hah, as if that makes any difference -whatsoever-]. Bygones.

I have. Very disturbing, but utterly brilliant.....

You might wanna shield your eyes during the castration scene......

Going to see it this week hopefully.

very good film. however slightly disapppointed with that scene as no terror was felt below

reminded me slightly of Closer and slightly the shape of things in the tone of the performances as it was very much like watching a play. so i think some people might be in for a long slog as it is mostly a two person performance for a long time.

however must say Ellen Page was so totally great in it. will knock sarah polley of her tree as most interesting canadian actress.

however when they made her look younger for the part was she supposed to look boy like?

also the little red riding hood part reminded me of the woodsman (no surprises) and also secretary

also kinda reminded me of Chris Cunningham's aphex twin video for windowlicker!!!!

Just saw this and friends with money, both really good, but completely different.

Hard Candy wasnt what i expected, but in a good way, i know it makes me sound sadistic but the castration wasnt harsh enough, lack of blood, pain, etc. But the girl was excellent, i just hope shes not the next haley jole osmund, one hit film then fades into obscurity
