Elvis Remixes #1 in Italy:

Elvis Presley n.1 in the Italian album record sales chart. A dream that could become true for the first time in history for thousands of Italian fans of the King of Rock’n’Roll, 32 years after his death. On the 30th of October the new official Elvis’s album “Re:Mixes” will be released and since days an unstoppable word of mouth has been spreading all over the Internet to go to buy the record in the shops on the day of the release or the day after, so that the highest possibile number of copies sold will concentrate in the same week and be counted for the official album sales chart.

If many copies of the new album will be bought in those two days (October 30th and 31st), there are serious chances that Elvis Presley’s new album “Re:Mixes” will enter the album chart straight at n.1. “The number one in the chart would be a fantastic and historical event – people say at Milan’s official Elvis’s fan club “One Night With Elvis”, among the leaders of the word of mouth. - This news would go around the world and would make all Italian fans pride. It would also be a perfect tribute to Elvis, whose music keeps on giving us great emotions”.

In the meantime the word of mouth is spreading rapidly, expecially since people heard that Mike Stoller, legendary producer for Elvis of hits such as “Jailhouse Rock” and “Hound Dog” among many others, said the new album is “amazing”. The stores are getting a lot of pre-orders and considering the fact that Elvis Presley’ “Re:Mixes” will be the first album in history to be sold on a new media called VinylDISC (a special CD made of Vinyl that can be played also on a turntable), becoming therefore a valuable item for any record collection, it’s sure the album will be a hit. And who knows, maybe Elvis is ready to amaze all.

It’s Official: Viva ELVIS :cheer:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/logo-viva-elvis-cirque-de-soleil.jpg

The title of the Elvis Presley-Cirque du Soleil show was made official today. Announced this morning is that the show will be called "Viva Elvis," playing off the 1965 Presley film "Viva Las Vegas."

The production show, a partnership between Cirque and Elvis Presley Enterprises, hits the stage when the CityCenter resort Aria opens on Dec. 16.

In a release, Cirque trumpeted the show as "created in the image of The King of Rock 'n' Roll -– powerful, sexy, whimsical, truly unique and larger than life -- the show highlights an American icon who transformed popular music."

The show is not going to be a straight musical adaptation of Elvis' career, but rather a series of interpretive, acrobatic, Cirque-i-fied scenes set to his music that will avoid traditional Elvis tribute artists (aside from a reported scene where one such impressionist is crushed by a giant blue suede shoe).

The company offered no details on when tickets would be made available, other than to say ticket information would be announced soon.

About the show:

Viva ELVIS, a harmonious fusion of dance, acrobatics and live music, is a tribute to the life and music of Elvis Presley. Nostalgia, modernity and raw emotion provide the backdrop for his immortal voice and the exhilaration and beauty of his music.

Created in the image of The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll – powerful, sexy, whimsical, truly unique and larger than life – the show highlights an American icon who transformed popular music and whose image embodies the freedom, excitement and turbulence of his era.

Significant moments in his life – intimate, playful and grandiose – blend with the timeless songs that remain as relevant today as when they first hit the top of the charts. Viva ELVIS focuses on the essential humanity of the one superstar whose name will forever be linked with the history of Las Vegas and the entire world of entertainment: Elvis Presley.

Some sad news :(

Eddie Belman passes away:

Eddie Bellman, the Biloxian who helped keep the “Elvis was here” stories alive on the Mississippi Coast, died Friday at 89. Through stories backed by photographs and film, Bellman regaled locals and occasionally the nation with observations about a young Elvis, who in 1955 and 1956 performed and played here.

Bellman took Elvis Presley on his first deep-sea fishing trips, where The King snagged bonito, mackerel and sharks. On one trip, Bellman took an 8-mm movie camera, and his 17 minutes of color clips are now classics of the early Elvis years. Bellman’s rare film footage shows a 21-year-old Elvis who was already making movies and gold records but not yet insulated from the public.

“Elvis was a happy person then, very accommodating, very friendly, cooperative and very polite,” Bellman told the Sun Herald. “He was so happy to be out on that boat...His way of paying me back was to make an appearance at my shoe place.”

With his usual humor, Bellman added, “I don’t think anybody bought shoes that day and they really messed up the store.”

Bellman’s footage shows Elvis pretending that a boat boom is a microphone. Fans particularly love the scenes of Mrs. Presley feeding Elvis his favorite peanut butter and banana sandwich. There is also film of Elvis frolicking with Biloxi girlfriend June Juanico. Bellman stuck the film in a closet and forgot about it until 1997 when Juanico wrote a book about her Elvis relationship.

Some of Bellman’s footage has appeared on TV shows such as “Entertainment Tonight” and “Inside Edition,” and in a video called “Elvis’ Lost Love.”

Presley repaid Bellman by signing autographs in his shoe shop inside of David’s on Howard Avenue. David Rosenblum, who owned the main store, wanted to repay the star, so he and Bellman presented Elvis with his first .410-gauge Winchester pump-action shotgun. That presentation has become a classic local Elvis image.

Bellman’s graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.

Hot news On The 'Viva Elvis' Show and CD:

EIN contributor Brian Quinn reports >>.. Apparently the Aria Theatre which will house the 'Viva Elvis' Show is amazing. Further inside information reveals that the 'Viva Elvis' CD from the said show is said to be outstanding and mixed with far superior technology to that of the Beatles' 'Love' album. The sound on the CD will be the most contemporary sounding Elvis we have ever heard. There is a strong chance of some single releases from the show including Duets.

This release will get the 'full works' from Sony and it is hoped sales will be in excess of the 30 No.1 Hits. Sounds great and this will be followed up in 2011 with similar technology for a new 'Duets' album - another big seller. There is also the possibility of the show being filmed in 3D for the cinema circuit.

I can also confirm that Simon Fuller is in the process of outlining a Biopic of The King along the lines of Johnny Cash's 'Walk The Line' but that could take a couple of years to get off the ground.

2010 and beyond - Elvis is still in the building!

. "All Shook Up" Campaign from Sirius radio:

Elvis is featured in a new promo campaign. This time footage from the '68 Comeback Special was used for a commercial for Sirius Satellite Radio. RadioSirius XM "shook up" the nation’s televisions last weekend with the launch of what CEO Mel Karmazin referred to as "the most aggressive national ad branding campaign in our history.”

The new Sirius XM thirty second ad spot, seen on millions of US televisions, begins with vintage footage of Elvis from his ‘68 Comeback Special singing a rousing version of “All Shook Up.” While the song continues to play, the slick visual moves through footage of Michael Jordan, Richard Pryor and Howard Stern. The end of the ad brings text exclaiming “Satellite Radio is changing it again.” The Sirius XM logo and web address to the newly launched siriusxm.com are shown in the final frame.

This new eye-catching advert is getting a positive public response. Filmmaker/writer Jason Hill said, “The ad is one of the more creative ads I have seen in a while, connecting the achievements of the best in music, sports, comedy and radio to what the service has to offer. I like how the ad opens up with “All Shook Up” while showing nostalgic clips of Elvis, Jordan and Pryor, then transitioning to Stern with nice motion graphic titles married to the frame — the presentation is very impressive.” Impressed with the strategy of the ads message as well, Mr. Hill said, “The ad does a good job of promoting Sirius XM’s content by putting out in front the value of their primary offerings, and doing it with lots of style. The ad is very entertaining while cleverly promoting all four major content products Sirius XM offers: music, sports, comedy, and talk radio.”

BBC RADIO 2'S ELVIS SEASON

Gospel According To The King

Boxing Day Saturday 26 December

10.00-11.00pm BBC RADIO 2

BBC Radio 2 presents two weeks of special programming leading up to Friday 8 January 2010 – when Elvis Aaron Presley would have celebrated his 75th birthday.

The season covers the music, the films, the brand and Elvis Presley's personal life. Presenters include Jerry Hall, Rob Brydon and Suzi Quatro, who travels to Graceland 35 years after Elvis invited her to his home.

In Gospel According To The King, Jerry Hall explores the importance and influence of gospel music in Elvis Presley's life. Long before he became known as the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis was a child from Tupelo, Mississippi, who was fascinated by the power and the passion of gospel music. He grew up singing spiritual music with his family in his local church and, when they moved to Memphis, they regularly attended all-night gospel sessions at the Ellis Auditorium.

After he became a huge rock star, Elvis would regularly return to the "all-night sings" and join his favourite gospel groups on stage. The only three Grammy Awards Elvis won were for his gospel recordings; he incorporated gospel songs into his stage repertoire and even convinced studio bosses to include gospel songs in several of his movie soundtracks.

The documentary features members of gospel groups who recorded and performed with Elvis including The Jordanaires, The Imperials and The Sweet Inspirations and also includes musicians DJ Fontana, James Burton, Glen D Hardin, Jerry Scheff and Ronnie Tutt. There is also archive material from Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, who recorded the famous "million-dollar quartet" sessions on 4 December 1956, when Elvis sang gospel songs with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash.

During his career, Elvis Presley made 33 films and, despite having no training, "The King" was one of the highest-paid actors of the Sixties, with his film soundtracks alone grossing around $280m.

Elvis was keen to be taken seriously as an actor, but felt pigeonholed into making musical comedies. During his film career, he turned down the opportunity to act opposite Elizabeth Taylor in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and the Oscar-winning role played by George Chakiris in West Side Story. Despite his box-office success, he gave up acting in films in 1969.

This two-part series explores Elvis's Hollywood career and looks at the effect his multi-million-dollar movie career may have had on his reputation.

Part one looks at the early Elvis films and explores his ambitions to be a serious actor. The programme includes interviews with songwriters Lieber and Stoller and Elvis's close friend, Jerry Schilling, and examines early films Jailhouse Rock, King Creole and Viva Las Vegas.

Part two is broadcast at the same time tomorrow.

BBC RADIO 2'S ELVIS SEASON

Elvis And Dewey – Red, Hot And Blue

Tuesday 29 December

10.30-11.30pm BBC RADIO 2

Paul Gambaccini tells the fascinating story of a pioneering disc jockey, who played a part in the birth of rock 'n' roll in Memphis and the early career of Elvis Presley, as BBC Radio 2's Elvis Season continues.

In the Fifties, Dewey Phillips played rhythm and blues to an audience of black and white listeners on American radio station WHBQ. His zeal for rhythm and blues and country music set the stage for Elvis's subsequent success and the rock 'n' roll revolution.

Dewey was the first DJ to introduce an Elvis record on the radio in July 1954. On his Memphis radio show, Red, Hot And Blue, he played an acetate of the first single, That's All Right (Mama), cut for him by Sun Studios owner Sam Phillips.

Elvis always acknowledged his debt of gratitude to Dewey, not only for his first radio exposure but for the influence on his musical development of hearing the exciting mix of blues and country records every night.

The programme includes extracts from Dewey's radio and TV programmes of the Fifties and early Sixties. Interviewees include Louis Cantor, author of Dewey And Elvis, who worked on Memphis radio station WDIA; Memphis radio veteran Charles Raiteri; George Klein and Jerry Schilling, who were Humes High School classmates of Elvis; and an archive interview with the late Memphis musician and producer Jim Dickinson.
