I love Amy! - the girl who sung There You'll Be. I really didn't think her voice would be so deep and pure, as when she talks she has a lighter tone to her voice. But i really love her - it helps that she comes from Watford which is near where i live so i'll be surporting her!

She was really surprising to me as well. When I saw that she bought along her dad as her biggest fan I was thinking it would be one of those occasions where the parent gives the child false hopes by saying they have talent when they don't. Then when the whole sob story came out it seemed obvious that she would be good - they don't usually bother showing sob stories if the person doesn't get though.

I think there have been a lot of talented young women on the show this year, I think it will be tough to cut them down to just three.

why is dannii there? she doesn't do anything aside from commenting how "adorable" they are and then putting on that silly voice, screeching "YESSSS", when it's time to decide.

she's nice looking, though.

Compared to Cheryl who seems to think the show revolves around her she's perfect.

Cheryl doesn't think the show is about her - the editors do. Cheryl is only having an input as a judge - that was why she got the job. If she just sat there saying yes/no then what would be the point of her being there. At least she is getting her opinions across, and you can tell she really cares about the contestants (mostly) she has put through. and yes i know she let a few in who shouldn't have been to spite Simon, but then Louis and Sharon were doing that ever since the 1st X Factor, so its not that dramatic is it

Also Cheryl is the only one who can understand what the contestants are really going through having had to go through auditions like this herself on Popstars

From the bits I've seen she is awful. at least Dannii showed in the last series having spent all her life in showbiz that she knows the business, hence why she went with the awful Leon & controversial choice of Rhydian which Sharon Osbourne mocked her for, at the time. But I think it is fair to say that Dannii had the last laugh.

All Cheryl seems to do is her Elizabeth Taylor bite lip & cry impression.

To think the producers had Boy George originally lined up to replace Sharon Osbourne, but obviously Simon Cowell could no handle a talented singer/songwriter standing up to Simon and tell him some home truths (after all he was "outing" George Michael back in 1983!), so instead he got a manufactured poppet in as a judge.

I 100% agree, I'm bored to death of seeing Cheryl cry every week, wet drip.

I wish Simon would make up his mind though about the sob stories. A few weeks ago he was quoted as saying he wanted less of the sob stories and more focus placed on ability. And what did he do yesterday when that girl said 'I've had a rough time' (or something of that ilk?) Did he say 'haven't we all love, now lets hear you sing' no ... he gave her a prompt! Cheryl calling her over to give a hug :puke2: :puke2::puke2::puke2::puke2:

By the way ... this may have been asked (probably by me  ) has anyone had a sob story and then been absolutely awful anyway?

I don't know much about what happens behind the scenes on the X Factor but I'd be surprised if Dannii and co. actually pick their finalists themselves or if Simon and the producers get a say - if so she must have really changed her mind on Rhydian. I can't find the video of it, but I seem to remember Dannii making signals like she wanted to throw up during his first audition and she actually said no to him. I wouldn't be surprised if the producers put him through just to have a controversial character in the final 12 as they were pretty certain Hope or...the boy band were going to win that year. They probably didn't expect him to be in the final two as he was edited quite badly before the live shows so the public didn't like him at the time.

As for Leon...well he won but I don't know if I would be proud of picking the worst winner of any reality TV show I've ever watched - if she actually got to pick her three herself.

Cheryl does turn on the waterworks very easily though, it amused me how she had mascara and tears down her face after an audition this week while Dannii was the polar opposite and looked almost expressionless.

I'm sure there are plenty of awful auditionees who have sob stories, but we probably never hear them. After all, the purpose of the sob stories is to give the contestants some kind of back story so we can 'sympathise' or 'care' for them so they're more likely to milk a story out of someone we'll be seeing a lot more of, rather than one we wont see again until the annual gathering of freaks they get to perform on the final night.

What we have to remember is that everyone who sees the judges has already been through a panel or some other judging process to get there, so the people behind the cameras are probably told "go over to her, she's good. try and get her to say something that will make the viewers interested in her".

What they don't seem to get is that sob stories ruin it for a lot of people even though I'm sure 80% of them are true and are very sad, I can't help myself but to groan or roll my eyes every time I hear one. The girl who did a cover of "There You'll Be" was stunning in my opinion but as you said, Simon prompting her to tell her story and Cheryl's waterworks in the process just makes cringeworthy viewing even though her story was moving. It's just not the sort of thing I would bring into it if I had the choice.

I'm so excited for all this:

"GORGEOUS Dannii Minogue is spicing up the X Factor by bringing in Emma Bunton as her judging sidekick.

The Aussie told TV Biz that Baby Spice, 32, has been a godsend when it comes to deciding which wannabes to put through.

Dannii, 36, who is putting the over-25 hopefuls through their paces at her rented pad in the ritzy French resort of St Tropez, said: “She’s been brilliant — one of the best X Factor guest judges ever.

"She really helped me focus on who we should be putting through to the next round.”

The beauty added: “Emma is one of the biggest X Factor fans so she knows the show inside out.”

Each of the ITV1 hit’s four judges is allowed to pick a trusty aide to help them weed out weaker contestants during singing boot camps at the stars’ homes.

And Dannii revealed that she is finding the process heart-breaking.

She admitted: “It’s so hard deciding who to put through and who to send home because it means the world to these people.

“You’re sitting there and you’re in charge of these kids’ hopes and dreams.”

Meanwhile just up the French Riviera’s coast, in Cannes, Cheryl Cole, 25, has turned to Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh, 26, to pick the best of the girls’ category.

Fellow judge Louis Walsh, 56, has picked Westlife singer Shane Filan, 29, as his helper.

The singer has flown out to Louis’ Irish home to give his advice on the shortlist.

And Simon Cowell, 48, has regular sidekick Sinitta, 41, to help him whittle down the lads’ category at his home in Barbados.

Dannii revealed her Baby signing as Britney Spears, 26, put pen to paper to perform on the show — just as The Sun predicted.

Simon Cowell said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have her.

“Everyone wants to work with her because she’s a star. She’s the number one booking in the world at the moment for a show.”

Television’s Mr Nasty added: “The fact that she goes a bit crazy occasionally makes her more interesting. And if she wants to shave her head before she comes on the show, she’s welcome to. I don’t care.”

Britney is just one of a star-studded line-up set for guest performances on the talent quest.

Leona Lewis, 23, will return to the show which made her name when she won the series in 2006.

Last year’s winner Leon Jackson, 19, is also coming back to showcase his new single.

And Girls Aloud are rumoured to be making an appearance.

Meanwhile, Dannii has said she wants Michael Jackson, 50, to join them, alongside Cher, 62, and

Jennifer Aniston’s ex, US blues singer John Mayer, 30"

If all that happens then i will be glued!
