August 14, 200816 yr songs I owned / loved / hated etc 1 Brotherhood Of Man - Angelo..... I still have the Disco Fever K-Tel album which featured this. Absolutely dreaful and worse was to come with the follow up... here's the Disco Fever album, does anyone else remember it? http://www.discogs.com/release/1038431 http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1038431 2 Donna Summer - I Feel Love..... had the 12", though it's the 1982 version. I hated this song when it first came out in 1977. Took me a few months to actually get to like it 3 Showaddywaddy - You Got What It Takes..... another track from Disco Fever 4 The Floaters - Float On..... and another track from DF 5 Boney M - Ma Baker..... terrible 6 The Rah Band - The Crunch - and another track from DF 7 Rita Coolidge - We're All Alone - not bad 8 Smokie - It's Your Life - and another track from DF... was OK 9 The Commodores - Easy...... bland, was re-released in 1988 after being featured on a Halifax Building Society advert for their Cashcard service 10 The Stranglers - Something Better Change..... was OK 11 Jonathan Richman - Roadrunner..... I liked this, I can still remember it entering the top 30 on the Tuesday chart countdown a few days before school broke up for the summer 12 Emerson Lake & Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man..... had the 7" of this - still like it 13 Deniece Williams - That's What Friends Are For - OK song, not as good as Free 14 Alessi - Oh Lori...... one hit wonders with a rather sickly song that I did like at first 15 Hot Chocolate - So You Win Again..... one of my favourite HC songs - and also on that Disco Fever in a terribly chopped version (the second verse and chorus have been cut) 16 The Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant..... great song. Had the 7", No Fun was on the B side 17 Candi Staton - Nights On Broadway..... had this on 7", I loved this 18 The Detroit Emeralds - Feel The Need - OK 19 Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better - OK 20 The Jam - All Around The World - not bad but not their best 21 Bob Marley & The Wailers - Exodus..... OK but nothing special 22 Barry Biggs - Three Ring Circus.... I liked Sideshow but this was terrible 23 Fleetwood Mac - Dreams - excellent, I have Rumours, a great album 24 Steve Gibbons Band - Tulane.... OK 25 John Miles - Slow Down..... a local lad, he used to live near me. This was OK, a change of direction from his MOR type stuff 26 Thin Lizzy - Dancin' In The Moonlight..... not bad 27 Mink DeVille - Spanish Stroll..... OK 28 Olivia Newton-John - Sam..... oh dear, too twee for me. My sister loved it and played it to death 29 Dave Edmunds - I Knew The Bride..... not bad 30 Danny Williams - Dancin' Easy..... "anytime, anyplace, anywhere, there's a wonderful world we can share....", yup it's the Martini advert with slightly altered lyrics 31 Rods - Do Anything You Wanna Do..... had the 7" of this, great song. The B side was called "Schoolgirl Love". I doubt anyone could get away with the lyrics these days... 32 Television - Prove It.... I know I've heard this but I can't remember it at the moment... 33 Space - Magic Fly..... had the 7", brilliant song, and the B side Songs For Space Lovers was good too, if a bit more mellow. And it's on that Disco Fever album 34 The Stranglers - Peaches.... still brilliant song. I remember Jimmy Saville playing the non-friendly radio version the following year and all hell breaking loose... 35 The Dooleys - I Think I'm Gonna Fall In Love With You..... on that DF album.... which means I own this awful, awful song... 36 Yvonne Elliman - I Can't Get You Out Of My Mind..... I liked this, mellow song 37 The Real Thing - Love's Such A Wonderful Thing..... this certainly wasn't wonderful though. Utter garbage 38 Jigsaw - If I Have To Go Away....didn't care much for this 39 The Jacksons - Dreamer.....so-so song 40 Billy Paul - Your Song..... I think this was the Elton John song. If it's the version I'm thinking of, he can keep it!

At the time this was a record for the slowest climb to the top for an album that didn't fall off the chart in the meantime, beaten in 2001 by White Ladder by David Gray which climbed to #1 on its 66th week. 1977 was a year when TV advertised albums by older acts made the upper reaches of the charts with alarming regularity - we had #1s by Slim Whitman, Shadows, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and here we had Connie Francis who climbed to #1 a week henceforth. She was replaced by the recently deceased Elvis Presley in early September who in turn was replaced by Diana Ross & The Supremes who in turn were replaced by Cliff Richard & The Shadows. Young pups the Sex Pistols then took over before being replaced by Bread! Then came that Disco Fever album just in time for Christmas... then in to 1978 we had Bread again, Fleetwood Mac, Arrival by Abba then more oldies from Buddy Holly & The Crickets and then Nat 'King' Cole. Quite a run of oldies at the top... and The Beatles also made #1 in 1977 with the "Live At The Hollywood Bowl" release.
