The Saturdays - 'Up' 'Chasing Lights' [13.10.08] [27.10.08]

Featured Replies

Here for clips of all album tracks from HMV.

'keep her' is the best track on that, the rest are pretty much unremarkable.

however my attention is drawn to the fact that hmv have knocked a MASSIVE ten quid off the price! man, thats disasterous! cut price album BEFORE its even released and a debut album at that....

I don't think it will be their biggest hit, I think that will remain to be 'Up'. When 'Work' is released, the track will be on iTunes before the release date which will dilute the peak slightly then there's the fact that even people who like The Saturdays aren't that keen on it. (except you)

spot on.... the third release of an album that has been released NEVER does well. (as in biggest hit)

HMV always far overprice albums anyway.......

maybe, but £6.99? theyll never make any money like that and if they dont make money, they are sunk.

the have slashed the prices of Keanes, ACDC and a number of other new albums aswell so not just theres :P

£6.99 is a bit cheap, yes, most albums are £7.99 or £8.99 usually. I'm sure it's just a low price because they're a new act and a £6.99 album is much more tempting than an £8.99 one to someone unsure on the act - it made me consider getting it when I saw the lowish price.

Oasis sold their album for lower last week, but they sold over 200K and The Saturdays will sell about 10% of that so I guess Oasis can afford to sell it that low with the volume of albums they were shifting.

Soo happy it's doing so well :D Didn't expect it to do this well. Just one thing...Surely if this single has had less hype than the first, done worse on tv and on radio but is out performing the first it means they're liked? ITIL was hyped up to the max and was their first single but yet this is doing better? They are gaining fans, like someone said it's not easy to break into the pop market these days. If you look at the pop songs in the charts, they are mostly by people who have been around for a long time and had it easier years ago?

And Mushy...you keep going on about this 'hyped' thing. Yes they have been hyped up a lot, but not by themselves? They can hardly help it if people are bigging them uup can they? They're not saying we're amazing, we're the new this, we're the new that. The facts are, being hyped up is not gonna make someone go out and buy the artists music is it? I think the girls out-performing Leon is clearly showing that! His a winner from a massive reality show, performed on the weekend to over 10 million viewers. These girls haven't even performed on a show to anywhere near that  but yet they're doing better? speaks for itself! They're are liked and they will gain fans with each single they release. ^_^

Well I don't keep seeing adverts for the Leon Jackson single on Music Video Channels, but I sure keep seeing that advert to buy/download the new The Saturdays single.

Polydor are throwing a lot of money at the band because they need them to succeed because they can see "a gap in the market" for them with the heavily rumoured "sabbatical" of Girls Aloud in 2009 to allow for Nadine to release her solo album she has recorded in LA & Cheryl to have a baby and continue to be a judge in the next series of X Factor; and as for the Sugababes .....http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a132728/...rary-split.html.

As for all you youngsters who think I'm being a doom and gloom merchant, well I remember The Bangles; Atomic Kitten & The Spice Girls never initially formally split, but they just took time off for solo projects and their separations promptly lasted longer than a couple of years. The same trick has been carried out by too many male bands to mention, as legally if a band formally splits then legalities have to occur with lawyers and accountants getting involved costing the band members money (like a divorce), so it is easier just to take "an indefinite sabbatical" than to formally split as it costs less money and hassle.

Hence it makes perfect business sense to promote The Saturdays as an initial loss leader in the hope they become successful and gain a big enough fanbase in the event of either the Sugababes or Girls Aloud disappearing so they can become their replacements as the top British Girlgroup.

Girls Aloud have just signed a new contract by the way rumoured to be for 3 more albums (probably including a GH). I do think that there will be a break for a year or so though
Why does the title say '?' when it's definitely called 'Chasing Lights'?

Why does the title say '?' when it's definitely called 'Chasing Lights'?

Because they have changed the title so many times I thought I'd keep it like that incase they change it back again.

No they haven't. It was previously untitled and then got the title 'Chasing Lights'. People just wrongly assumed it was self titled because the name wasn't on the cover but it was never changed. 100% called 'Chasing Lights':

Who chose the album title, "Chasing Lights"?

Una: "It's actually one of the tracks on the album, so we all just thought, 'Aha! That would be a good title'."

Rochelle: "It's a very apt title and it explains a bit about us, because we're chasing our names in lights."

Una: "We're still chasing the dream, aren't we? It's still very early days for us. We haven't really been established yet and it's up to the public to decide whether we're still going to be around in a year."

Vanessa: "We kinda feel like we're still on trial. We know we've got a long way to go."

What was the worst album title that was suggested?

Rochelle: "Probably 'Saturday Night Fever'."

Frankie: "And people made up a rumour on the internet that the album was going to be called 'Taking Back Sunday' - you know, like the band. They put it on our Wikipedia page so everyone thought it was true. We were like, 'Oh no, is that really going to be our title without us even knowing? Please don't let that be our title!'"

I still stick to my guns, just because a few people have heard it and dont like it doesnt mean it wont sell well with the general public. People will jump on it, i swear in 6 months time it will of been top 3 and sold loads. Its the single to properly kick start them.

No, 'Up' is THE single to do that - it's the one which is #2 on iTunes, after all.

Work has had a much more mixed reaction than Up online, so how does that fare for public support?

Im not arguing, its my opinion and prediction and im sticking to it. Really there's nothing else to say, you guys dont like it and dont think it will do that well and im the complete opposite. End of.
But it's no 'guarantee', to quote you :P I like them though so whatever they release I do want it to do well. We just need to be realistic.
And i am being realistic. Thats my realistic opinion, really let it die.

o_o

Work has a killer chorus omg. I never thought I'd really dig a Saturdays song. =/

Tis a bit High School Musical-like (to quote Jake), but I dunno, tis catchy.

And i am being realistic. Thats my realistic opinion, really let it die.

blind faith... you do yourself no favours by saying 'its my opinion and im sticking to it'... even if you are wrong?

look

NEVER in the history of pop music that i can recall, has the third single of an album that has already been released, been the biggest seller... NEVER.
