September 2, 200915 yr I've been meaning to watch this for ages but I wanted to read the book first. Anyway I finally got around to reading it yesterday (it's brilliant) so I settled down to watch the film this afternoon. I kept noticing just how fast-paced the film was. It missed out so much of Bella's obsessing and worrying and swooning, it felt like as soon as she'd started school she was off to the beach and going shopping already. It could've done with an extra twenty minutes... I really enjoyed it though. It was slightly shit obviously but the bigger budget for New Moon (which I intend to read next week) should iron out some of the flaws with the effects and stuff (their make-up!). I wish we had seen more of Alice though and I didn't understand the necessity of adding the plot in which James was killing people in Forks before he even met the Cullens; his arrival in the area is so sudden in the book, Alice had foresoon his arrival further in the future - they would know if he was already in town! I felt like the casting though, with the exception of Carlisle, was spot-on; I just hope that they make the most of some of the other characters in the next film and don't rush the action. 8/10.
