Palm Springs Mansion For Sale For $17 Million

Elvis Presley's Palm Springs, California house is on the market for $17 million, according to The International Herald Tribune.

The 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, seven-bath house which Presley bought in 1970 for $85,000, was nicknamed "Graceland West," and was a favorite retreat for the King throughout the years up through his death. In 1973, Presley recorded several songs in the house's living room, and on January 8th, 1977, he spent his 42nd -- and last -- birthday at the desert home.

The house features, "... panoramic views of the surrounding mountains... (and) includes an indoor sauna and steam room, a sunken black and red tile tub and the original kitchen appliances."

Following Presley's death, Priscilla Presley sold the house on behalf of the Presley estate to Frankie Valli.

Last year, the house was bought by Reno and Laura Fontana, who had announced plans to turn the house into a Graceland-like tourist attraction -- complete with a wedding chapel and recording studio. At the time Reno Fontana told The New York Times, "We may have our names on the deed, but we are the caretakers. This house belongs to Elvis fans around the world."

The sad Goodbye to the Circle G Ranch :(

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/circle.jpg

Today and tomorrow over 2.000 members of ElvisMatters get their brand new ElvisMatters Magazine, as always filled with unique pictures, stories, news, interviews and reviews. Among the many articles, is also a report by our members Marc Rixen, Ruud Smeets, Hans Wolters and Jan Meijers, who recently visited the Circle G Ranch…. But their report has no happy end, as the pictures show. The whole ranch is abandoned and apparently occupied by homeless. The door is unlocked, and the pictures taken inside the house are just horrifying. Was THIS the house Elvis was so proud of in the sixties? The FULL and EXCLUSIVE report + pictures is now available in the brand new ElvisMatters Magazine.

Now that is sad news to hear :( When I visited it last summer, it was indeed empty, but was locked up and we were ever hopeful that someone would take it on and restore it to how it was. Here’s some of the pics I took .

The story behind the Mediation Garden!!

The Elvis Glass tells EIN:

We would like to invite you to go to http://www.theelvisglass.com/ for details on an incredibly interesting discovery concerning the Meditation Garden at Graceland.

Marty Lacker adds more to 'The story behind the Meditation Garden':

EIN thanks Marty Lacker who tells us some more fascinating facts to add to yesterday's story...

" As many fans know Bernard Grenadier was my brother in law and he and my sister, Anne, designed and built the Meditation Garden when Elvis requested he build something beautiful and peaceful for him to go to, to just think and meditate when he needed to.

That area had originally been a broken down birdbath and the columns that were there were all rotted and peeling. The grass was weed ridden.

My Brother in law got the stain glass from Spain, the curved wall that held them was made of bricks made in Mexico and the small statues that were in the Garden came from Italy. He turned that small bird bath into that huge fountain that featured fourteen different sprays as well as the colored lights and the torch pots placed around the fountain.

The first night Elvis saw it when we had just returned from Hollywood he wanted to see it by himself, when he came back into the house he had tears in his eyes. He hugged my brother in law and sister and told them he had never seen anything as beautiful.

The first night Elvis saw it when we had just returned from Hollywood he wanted to see it by himself, when he came back into the house he had tears in his eyes. He hugged my brother in law and sister and told them he had never seen anything as beautiful.

The following Christmas I had a custom statue made of Jesus to give to Elvis from the MM which also had great meaning to him in his religious beliefs.

After that Elvis asked my brother in law and sister to completely redo his bedroom upstairs.

Thought your readers would like to know the whole inside story.

- Marty.

As noted yesterday: The Meditation Garden was designed and built by Memphian Bernard Grenadier (who also built the waterfall in the Jungle Room) in the mid 1960’s. One of the most beautiful and mysterious features of the Garden are the four nineteenth-century stained glass windows in the curved brick wall overlooking the graves. Moorish in nature and religious in their imagery, their meaning has been the source of much speculation over the years.

I never knew that there was another copy made of the stained glass windows :o

This is a little bit cheaper than an Elvis-owned house, but can the contents of my piggy bank stretch to it :yahoo:

Elvis desk for sale on eBay

Elvis' office desk if for sale on Ebay for current bid US $25,000.00 with the reserve not met. Following on from our previous news stories about Elvis' Meditation Garden windows, designer Bernard Grenadier's son is selling Elvis' original desk.

As reported: "Elvis commissioned Bernard to build a futuristic wood desk for him to use in his study. A desk that would represent Elvis’s style and the grandeur of Graceland. Elvis wanted a desk that brought to life his creative vision of how electronics would be married into our everyday world.

The desk would hold a radio, television, 8 track player, telephone directory and calendar to mention several of Elvis’s futuristic ideas. Elvis and Bernard drew out on a piece of paper their thoughts for this desk. Bernard took the drawings to RCA and asks them to build a television that would fit into the design. At the time RCA said that it was impossible. When Bernard went back to Elvis with the response from RCA, Elvis stated impossible is not an option! Bernard went back to RCA again and convinced them to rethink their decision. Bernard told them “money was no problem” - so the vision began to take form. RCA took the diagram to their research and development department to build the small television to fit into the console of the desk.

Elvis was so pleased with the design of the desk that he requested not one but two desks to be built. He used and enjoyed both desks for a long time.

Elvis decided after Bernard had turned down many gifts over the years from motorcycles to cars, that he would give Bernard the second desk as a token of their friendship. Bernard accepted and treasured the desk for many years.

After my Dad died (Bernard Grenadier) in the mid 80's the desk was left to me. I have enjoyed the desk ever since. It has always given me true joy to sit at Elvis’s desk and do my work, just as Elvis did many years ago. It has allowed me feel close to Elvis, and know that he worked on this desk – it is a special feeling that I will never forget.

This is truly a unique treasure. The sister twin to this desk is on display at Graceland and is viewed by millions of visitors who tour the grounds of Graceland yearly.

I am presenting the desk for auction in the hopes of finding someone that will feel as my Dad and I have, and cherish this special part of Elvis Presley’s everyday life. The first 2 pictures posted are of the sister desk located at Graceland. The fourth picture is of a memorial plaque in the meditation gardens. It has my fathers name listed as the designer and builder of the gardens."

Another Elvis car for sale

Once again, an Elvis owned car pops up on eBay. For less than 100.000 $US this custom built Cadillac Estate Wagon can be yours... From the auction catalogue: "This car was owned by Elvis Presley from 1972 until his death in 1977. After that it remained at Graceland until auctioned off with other Elvis memorabilia in 1995. I have the title signed by Jack Soden President of Elvis Enterprises, and a letter from them as well. The car is said to have been kept in Las Vegas at the home of Col. Tom Parker Elvis’s Manager, and then at the Las Vegas Hilton where Elvis played engagements from 1972 thru 1976. After his final engagement on December 12, 1976 the car was sent back to Graceland where it remained in use by the staff until well after the King’s death. The car actually started its life as a 1972 Cadillac Fleetwood sedan that was shipped from the factory in Detroit to the American Sunroof Company where it was converted in to an Estate Wagon. The top is dark brown vinyl (not black) and it has 73,000 miles on it. It has chrome spoke rims (not caps) with 24kt gold plated spokes. The car also has 24kt gold finish emblems. It is a very unique car. In 1972 ASC built two of these custom vehicles, one for Elvis and the other for singer Dean Martin. The whereabouts of Dean’s car is unknown."

Marty Lacker selling Elvis related items

Marty Lacker has decided to sell the few copies of All The King's Men videos he has left, as well as copies of his original drawing of The Tree Of Life he designed for Elvis in 1964. Elvis was given a beautiful big white Bible with the Tree on the first page in gold that he cherished until he died, for Christmas in '64 by Marty and the Memphis Mafia. One month later Marty had a gold medallion made with the drawing on it and he and the MM gave it to Elvis for his 30th birthday. He wore it around his neck for many years as it meant a great deal to Elvis.
