August 28, 200816 yr Pot 4 looks interesting, with quite a few newcomers :D First ever Greek and Belarussian teams to make the Champions League apparently :o Teams in the draw for the Champions League group stages: Pot one MANCHESTER UNITED CHELSEA LIVERPOOL Barcelona ARSENAL Lyon Inter Milan Real Madrid Pot two Bayern Munich PSV Eindhoven Villarreal AS Roma FC Porto Werder Bremen Sporting Lisbon Juventus Pot three Marseille Zenit St Petersburg Steaua Bucharest Panathinaikos Bordeaux CELTIC Basel Fenerbahce Pot four Shakhtar Donetsk Fiorentina Atletico Madrid Dynamo Kiev CFR Cluj Aalborg Anorthosis Famagusta Bate Borisov
August 28, 200816 yr Author Ooooh i want one of the teams with the cool names! :kink: I'll keep the first post updated with the draw...
August 28, 200816 yr Some absolute stonkers in the draw tbh... to be fair I don't think there's any easy draw. Some of the lesser teams may look easy on paper, but if they play against someone like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Man Utd etc. then it'll be their cup final. Worst possible group for any of the top seeds though is, Juventus Zenit Athletico Madrid
August 28, 200816 yr Why are Liverpool in pot one exactly? They only just scraped through last night!
August 28, 200816 yr Why are Liverpool in pot one exactly? They only just scraped through last night! Goes on UEFA rankings. They're ranked #2 at the moment behind Chelsea iirc, and i'm sure I read they're due to get to #1 if the beat Liege. Liverpool have the toughest group for the group stages (Man Utd's is pretty though too). Saying that, Athletico should be a great tie. Torres back to Madrid... Luis back to Anfield, should be quite the occasion.
August 28, 200816 yr Author First post updated with groups.... Group H definatley looks the most itneresting!
August 28, 200816 yr Anybody else think that the UEFA awards that were given out were a joke too? (bar Ronaldo).
August 28, 200816 yr Our group's p*** easy, couldn't have picked a better draw, good seeing Madrid in a tough one, and if Liverpool are ranked #1 team in Europe, having not won their own league in 18 long seasons, something's terribly wrong

August 28, 200816 yr Author Anybody else think that the UEFA awards that were given out were a joke too? (bar Ronaldo). YES totally. Let's give one to Terry because he missed a penalty and cried, and another to Lampard because his mother died and he pointed to the sky 150000 times. BLESS. August 28, 200816 yr No question that Group D: D = Death In contrast Chelsea & Manchester Utd could barely have selected an easier group if they had tried.

I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes it out to be to be honest. Out of the 2nd pot, PSV and Sporting were the "easiest" teams. We could have got Bayner or Inter Milan. Marseille have lost Cisse and Nasri (granted they've got Ben Afra). The only team that worries me is Athletico, but I think they'll be great matches. Both sets of supporters will have mutual respect for each other, and both teams have at least one player who has played for the opposing club before. I'd rather have close easy ties to Western European teams, than travel all the way over the Eastern Europe, at intimidating grounds like Arsenal...
August 28, 200816 yr The only team that worries me is Athletico To make it clear, it's Atlético (no h and with ´, but the ´ is not important) :P I like that we worry you. We've been out from Champions League for twelve years, but we're back, and I'm sure allt the players are going to give their best to play good matches. I know Liverpool and PSV are difficult, but.. being 4th?? :( It made me really sad that you thought we're that bad. Not all the groups are really interesting... I think C, D, E and G are the most interesting ones :D Edited August 28, 200816 yr by Newgi

I think only C, D, E and G are the most interesting ones :D Well Athletico are a very good team, and imo you have the best young player in the world in Aguero (who is my favourite player outside of the PL). Personally I reckon Liverpool and Madrid will go through. Can't wait for Torres to play against Athletico though... I can almost guarantee he'll play absolutely AWFUL or he'll play the best game of his life. One thing is for sure, if he scores he won't celebrate.
August 28, 200816 yr I think we won't celebrate it aswell. He started here, and he became a player playing for Atleti. When he went to Liverpool, I remeber he says we'd like to come back here, only he thought it was the best for the team and for him going to England. And he was right. He has became a fantastic player there, and we've learned to play withut Torres. So at the moment everything's alright. I think he'll play normal, he won't score, but he'll play a good match. and, I think. el calderon will give an ovation to him. And yeah, at the moment Agüero is one of the best players. Perhaps Messi is better, but.. Agüero is the best because he chose the best team :D I think Liverpool will finish first of the group, but Atletico will be second :)
