Posted August 31, 200816 yr Should this be in 'Sport' I wonder? Seems Robbie Williams' injured knee is preventing him from playing  IN SOCCER AID 2008 Is it inevitable that Johnie Wilkes takes the captaincy of England?
August 31, 200816 yr Fantastic show. Quite a few singers this year, even if Robbie is going to be on the sidelines. Craig David Gareth Gates Danny from McFly Nicky from Westlife And presented by PJ and Duncan!!! Not too sure about Jonathon Wilkes being captain. He probably deserves it, because he was part of coming up with the idea, but the tv people might prefer someone who is famous in their own right.
August 31, 200816 yr Author I forgot to put who was in the squad  SEE HERE Soccer Aid is back for another year as World Cup legends and top celebrities go head-to-head in an England versus The Rest of The World football match in aid of UNICEF and its partners. With Ant and Dec at the helm, this year’s event takes place live on the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium. Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is stepping up to manage England with Bryan Robson assistant managing and his squad includes: Football legends Jamie Redknapp, Alan Shearer, Teddy Sheringham and David Seaman and Kyran Bracken, Craig David, Angus Deayton, Tom Felton (of Harry Potter fame) GMTV's Ben Shephard, Gareth Gates, Danny Jones (Mcfly), actor Hugo Speer, Jamie Theakston, and Jonathan Wilkes. Meanwhile, legendary Scot Kenny Dalglish ably assisted by Ian Rush will take charge of the Rest of the World and players hoping to make it into his starting line up include: Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, Heroes actor Santiago Cabrera, Former Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell, TV presenter Gethin Jones, comedian Patrick Kielty, rugby ace Kenny Logan, cricketer Brian Lara, Sex and the City actor Gilles Marini, Gordon Ramsay, Love Actually star Rodrigo Santoro and legends Jaap Stam, Franco Baresi, Peter Schmeichel, Romario, and Paulo Di Canio. Gordon Ramsay returns to captain Rest of the World, but team England have a new skipper. Robbie Williams is passing on his captain’s armband, and the responsibility of deciding who will take his place is in the capable hands of manager Harry Redknapp. As the originator of the Soccer Aid concept, Robbie is confident that again the match will be of huge benefit to UNICEF’s work around the world. Robbie Williams says: "Being able to help so many people through Soccer Aid was one of the true highlights of my life. I’m gutted that this time round my knee isn’t up to it so unfortunately I’m out of the game. But I hope that everyone involved has the time of their life like I did, raises loads of money for UNICEF and that the best side wins.” Tim Lovejoy and Louise Redknapp will bring all the action from the sidelines while pundits and special studio guests will deliver their live analysis of the beautiful game. Each squad comprises eleven celebrities and five World Cup greats. With less than a week for the players to train and bond before the big game, the pressure is on to get match fit and performance ready. Soccer Aid is raising funds for UNICEF’s health, education and protection work with vulnerable children all over the world. UNICEF helps children to survive and thrive in more than 190 countries worldwide, working with partners to provide emergency support and long-term development solutions. UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions. Obviously my eyes will be on Gareth Gates, but I might make a slight diversion to Jamie Redknapp, Nicky Byrne and Gordon Ramsay. On a sporting note, am hoping David Seaman is in goal against Peter Schmeichel. Does Louise Redknap know anything about football
August 31, 200816 yr I'm quite looking forward to this! I remember me and my dad going to watch Soccer Six at Stamford Bridge years ago and seeing Alesha Dixon win a running race against all the other female celebs  What time's it on? I really wanna try and remember to watch it! :D
September 1, 200816 yr I really enjoyed this last time around and looking forward to it even more this year  I think its on at 6.30 Sunday 7th for the actual match but there are a few programs on ITV2 during the week showing some of the training I believe and a bit about Robbie as well.
September 1, 200816 yr Does Louise Redknap know anything about football  her other half certainly doesn't :kink: Although his Dad certainly does :P
September 2, 200816 yr Is it inevitable that Johnie Wilkes takes the captaincy of England? After watching last night's show and what Robbie was saying, I think he'll be getting the gig.
September 2, 200816 yr After watching last night's show and what Robbie was saying, I think he'll be getting the gig. Apart from living with Robbie in LA, what else is Wilkes famous for? I'm just curious, because I've never heard of him other than via Robbie. Norma Edited September 2, 200816 yr by Norma_Snockers
September 2, 200816 yr He did have a...er...'mildly successful' single out back in the day. I think it made top 40 but Smash Hits magazine just loved him to be honest. :(
September 3, 200816 yr He has done a few musicals, and appears reasonably successful at that, but I don't think he'd have ever got the first gig if it wasn't for being Robbie's best friend. But to be fair, I don't think he'd keep getting the gigs if he wasn't any good. He seems like a nice enough bloke and handles having a much more famous friend better than a lot of slightly famous people do. Ben Shepherd just said that they are starting their training properly today. Seems a bit slack!
September 3, 200816 yr He seems like a nice enough bloke and handles having a much more famous friend better than a lot of slightly famous people do. I must admit he does seem that ... and probably Robbie's one true friend. Norma Back on topic ... I'm absolutely peed off that Corrie is abandoned for this. I don't mind it being cancelled for a proper team V team / nation V nation game ... but not as an excuse to flaunt a load of celebrities who are a bit c**p at the game. Nowt to worry about after all ... its only on Sunday. Edited September 4, 200816 yr by Norma_Snockers

What about making a few million pounds for UNICEF like they did last time?
September 3, 200816 yr What about making a few million pounds for UNICEF like they did last time? I'm sure if a load of the celebrities and players just dug down the backs of their sofas for mislaid cash - between them they could come up with a lot more than will be raised from this. Norma
September 4, 200816 yr Author More by luck than juddgement, managed to catch last night's pre show. They showed a lot of the coach driving in <_< Was good to see Ant and Dec being interviewed by Tim Lovejoy but didn't catch too many glimpses of those footballers legs :( Anyone know what time tonight's programme is on and which channel please?

September 6, 200816 yr Author There's something on ITV2 tonight at 11 pm. Norma I did catch it, though it was just a repeat of the previous night. Seems they aren't being so generous with their pre coverage this time  Thanks anyway. However with a four hour coverage tomorrow on ITV 1 at 6pm this should make up for it.
