Has anyone heard of this girl? She's sort of being marketed as another Rihanna as far as I can see; similar roots, similar appearance, similar-ish sound.

Shontelle hails from the Caribbean island nation of Barbados and is a protege of the team of Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers. Sound familiar? If you keep a close eye on pop music you will recognize the shared experience with superstar Rihanna. This isn't where the connections end.

During high school Shontelle attended a camp where she served as a drill sergeant over the young Rihanna. According to her MySpace site, Shontelle says of Rihanna, "She was a good cadet, though there was one occasion when I had to make her drop and give me ten push-ups. We laugh about it now…I think she’s forgiven me." Reportedly, the pair remain good friends.

While Rihanna exploded on the international pop music scene, Shontelle pursued some of her musical dreams behind the scenes. As a student at the University of the West Indies she helped write hit songs by other Caribbean artists. Fortunately for Shontelle, Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers heard her song "Roll" on a Barbados radio station and soon decided they had another potential star on their hands. They may be right. The single "T-Shirt" is climbing pop radio playlists, and the debut album Shontelligence is due in stores this fall.

Her debut single T-Shirt is taking off in the US and it sounds a lot like the music of Jordin and Chris Brown in my opinion. It's really instant and catchy, and could start her career off really well!

T-Shirt:

She also has another song called Superwoman which is not an Alicia Keys cover but which IS very good indeed.

Her debut album Shontelligence is out October 21st. Any fans?

I really like ''T-Shirt'', she could be very big given the right promotion I think.

I quite like it actually better than a Jordin Sparks single

Hands off, I'm using it for BJSC11 :heehee:

really good track :D she has great potential aswell
It reminds me a bit of Keri's 'Energy'. Its nice but it's missing something...
debuted at 86 on the Hot 100 this week
I do quite like it but like Jonny i feel it lacks a certain something.

brilliant song, very Stargate sounding, did they produce the song (I didn't read all the blurb at the top :P)

reminds me of With You a lot in the verses and the chorus is catchy as hell

Nope, it was produced by Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken apparently. It does sound very Stargate ish though! And it paps on With You. :P

oh :o they nicked their sound :kink:

I don't understand Jark how you can dislike BoA and call it 'typical' yet love this? Quite possibly one of the most generic piles of pish released in the last few years. It's been done by Rihanna and Ne-Yo et al to death and much better.

You confuzzle me :(

I just like this for it's simplicity. I think it's quite beautiful really, and it might be fairly typical of the genre in terms of it's just another Take A Bow/With You etc, but I think she's extremely promising. I'm not saying it's some unique formula of a song, just that it's extremely enjoyable.

BoA is try-hard.

really sweet video she looks naturally gorgeous  up to 69 in U.S now aswell :D
T-Shirt up to 58 on hot 100 this week

Nice video.

It'd be nice if we could get a UK realese of it.
