one of our most prolific singer/songwriters, second frontman of genesis, part time kid actor, and someone who provokes opinion.... whats yours?..

heres some of his bigger hits..

81 'in the air tonight' #2

81 'i missed again' #14

82 'you cant hurry love' #1

84 'against all odds' #2

85 'sussudeo' #12

85 'easy lover' #1

85 'one more night' #4

85 'seperate lives' #4

88 'in the air tonight' #4

88 'a groovy kinda love' #1

88 'two hearts' #6

89 'another day in paradise' #2

90 'i wish it would rain down' #7

93 'both sides of the story' #7

96 'dance into the light' #9

tbh i dont mind his easlier material... although i have nothing by him in my collection. 'i missed again' was good, i liked his use of brass (which was prevailant at the time) and 'sussudeo' which is my fav pc track ... 'you cant hurry love' was a decent cover, but i prefer the original supremes hit. 'against all odds' was a heartfelt plea after losing his wife, and if anyone has ever been 'dumped' by someone they care for then you would understand the emotion in this. of course it was completely destryed by that awful wailing b**ch mariah carey....

'a groove kinda love' was another decent cover, but again, i much prefer the original mindbenders hit.

like? hate? indifferent? your opinion...

Sorry this is a joke thread right?

It's all $h!te obviously, the epitome of that Live Aid generation of artists that basically destroyed pop music in the second half of the 80s (along with S/A/W but that's been dealt with elsewhere.)

maybe, but i think his material pre-band aid was quite good.

Sorry mate can't stand his nasty nasal whine, his personality (he's a w*n**r), anything about him, Bloody Genesis after Gabriel left, or anything at all about him.

Round here he gets called Mr Potato Head and that is the nicest thing that's said about him.

AND Against All Odds is the worst record ever made.

maybe it is...but then again...this lot will make you vomit even more...maybe phil collins is not the worse solo member of genesis...tho obv people will say the blokes who left in the 70s are much much better...

Mike and the Mechanics ANOTHER CUP OF COFEE

Mike and the mechanics. WORD OF MOUTH

The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics

and paul carrack might be the poor mans phil collins :puke2: :puke2: :puke2:

Ace - How Long (does this record have a chorus or is it just the same verse repeated over and over)

Fish (Marillion) Tony Banks (Genesis) Shortcut To Somewhere

Tony Banks - I Wanna Change The Score

Stiltskin-Inside

this is much better!!!! :cheer:  :cheer:

Alcazar - This Is The World We Live In

Was just about to type the same thing. To me he seems like some old cruner.

bollox.... i had occassion to empathise with the sentiment of the song, i know how powerful it can be...

I really just can't stand Phil Collins. I like one or two songs but I just don't like the guy he seems to be a sh/te of the highest order. Also ... Genesis were better with Gabriel as lead.

I'm glad you could but it is schlock of the highest order with one of the most irritating vocal performances of all time.

First of all there are lots of worse singers and drummers than Phil Collins around. Since the mid 80's I would agree he has been a bit of a t*** to put it politely, but I rated his early solo stuff 81/82 before he got a bit cheesy from 84 onwards.

I liked Genesis too in the 70's when Gabriel was lead singer and even when (big :D )Phil took over, up to around 82.

Are we honestly saying he's worse than most of the plastic acts of the last 30 years? -_-

At least he writes his own stuff, which is a lot more than some other artists who seem to get more credability.

He is treated the same way that Cliff Richard is. No-one ever admits to liking Cliff, but he's sold loads of records, and been in the charts longer than anyone else. Someone from a distant past that should have retired a long time ago.

But he's one of those artists, you either love him or hate him. I do both

exactly! i think he gets far more vitriol then he deserves.

though i wouldnt call sussudeo 'cheesy'...

It doesn't matter if he writes his own stuff if it's unremitting cobblers
I think he was great in Genesis but I'm not a fan of his solo stuff
There's only one good song that Phil Collins has had a say in and thats Land Of Confusion

so its a 'no' from you then?...

I was shocked myself to see a thread devoted to this rather loathsom man!

But I'm the last person to critisize!

why?... he has been a mainstay of uk pop since the early 80's composing his own material...unlike watertwats puppets! :P

i know hes abit .... grubby... but tbh i dont understand the hatred towards him, i simply dont think hes THAT bad and theres plenty worse... i dont get it...

Rob I think its because he is so loathesome (should that first 'e' be there?) as a person ... that it overshadows even his good songs - and I will admit there were one or two. If I had any doubts about him ... his performance on 'Brass Eye' cleared them up.

Norma

Why do you have this hang up about him writing his own material. It doesn't matter.
