Why is there this obsession with the guy in the media ??

I was reading up on him tonight and ...

1)Since he made his England debut we have not lost a single game he has failed to play in

2)He scored the grand total of 0 goals in the world cup qualifiers

If you read the tabloids you would think we might as well not bother turning up in Germany if he isn't fit

Why is there so much fuss about him ??

When you look at him playing for Man United and England they are both totally different teams with him playing! It's not just about goals, his spirit and presence benifit England as a whole. It's not JUST him considering we have a World Class team but he's probably the most important player for club and country.

I am not denying he is a very good player, he is, but the fact that we have never lost a single game he has failed to play in since he made his debut suggests to me that we can manage perfectly well without him

Its not an anti Rooney thread its an anti media thread because all they seem to do is spread negativity that we can't survive without Rooney when the results suggest otherwise

I think Rooney has a huge presence in the dressing room and you can tell that by how the players are reacting to the media about his injury and I really think that spirits will really be lifted for England if the scan tomorrow proves sucessful.

We can manage, yes but maybe we aren't as good as we are with him just like when any other team loses a key player ;) and I do agree with what you're saying about the media, we can do well without him but we do even better WITH him.

Here is another thing for conspiracy theorists.

When David Beckham broke his metatarsal we all saw the X-ray scan in the newspapers of his broken toe.

When Wayne Rooney broke his, have you seen a picture of the X-Ray scan in any of the newspapers like David Backham was?

Unless I'm mistaken the answer is No.

Question 1: Is Wayne Rooney's injury an elaborate scam just to deflate the optimism & hype of England's World Cup hopes with an "injury" to their best player, only for him to build up morale in the country when he miraculously plays again in the first crucial match (Hopefully not until the second round).

Question 2: If Wayne Rooney was a major serious doubt for the World Cup, then do you honestly think Sven would have selected a 17 year-old kid who has never played in the Premiership in the squad?

Hey all you Man U fans out there, how do you feel about the following scenario.

1)Rooney is passed fit to play, and England go on and win the tournament, but Rooney injures himself badly and is out for 6 months.

2)Rooney plays in early games , injures himself, England don't win cup and he is out for 6 months.

3)fails medical, England don't win cup, but Rooney is fit for start of the season and Man U go on and challenge Chesea right to the end.

1. If it meant we'd win the World Cup then I don't care if he's out for 6 months, we'll do Ok without him but of course we do need him but as I said if it meant winning the World Cup then so be it.

2. I'd be VERY pissed off if that happens -_-

3. It'd be great for to stick the two fingers up at Chelsea -_- but still I'd like to take him to take part in the World Cup in some way.

You pretty much summed up my answers there ^_^

I really could'nt care less if Rooney is fit or unfit at any stage in the World cup -_- England are not a one man team, plus they don't even need him for the group stages against weak teams ;)

Breaking News:

WAYNE ROONEY HAS HAD THE ALL CLEAR FROM HIS SCAN. :yahoo: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

He should be fit to play for England from the knockout stage of the tournament!

Rooney gets World Cup green light

BBC News

Wayne Rooney has been included in Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad, BBC Sport understands.

Rooney appears to have won the race to prove his fitness after breaking a metatarsal in his right foot while playing for Manchester United in April.

He has left on a flight back to Germany - which is due to land at Karlsruhe near Baden-Baden at about 2200 BST.

He had earlier spent two hours at a Manchester clinic while doctors studied the results of Wednesday's scan.

Football Association executive director David Davies had a broad grin on his face as he left hospital with Rooney before they drove to Manchester Airport.

An official announcement has yet to be made by either the Football Association or Manchester United - who announced on their website at 1945 BST that a "decisive" scan result "will be announced this evening".

It seems Rooney is willing to do everything he can to increase his chances of playing

But it does appear that Rooney has been given the green light by the group that spent two hours locked in the clinic at Whalley Range.

That group included United doctor Tony Gill and physio Rob Swire, England team doctor Leif Sward and other specialists.

It is also thought that an independent consultant from Fifa was on hand should there have been any conflict between Rooney's club and the FA - and it was reported that United lawyers were in attendance.

But a decision has apparently been reached to retain Rooney in the squad - and send the unfortunate Jermain Defoe of Tottenham, who had been on standby, back to England.

Tbh would we REALLY have been that worse off without him? I'm not so sure...

Not as bad as it's hyped to be but we are better with him ;)

I think it is so funny how the media are saying Rooney will be fit to play for England from the group stages of the tournament, I just think It would be so funny if England didn't make the knock out stages. I also wouldn't under estimate the other teams, which some England fans are doing.
To be honest, at the moment Paraguay are our biggest threat. Trinidad & Tobago lost to both Slovenia and Wales in the opening friendlies, and neither of them even came CLOSE to getting into the World Cup. And at the moment, Sweden have just gone strange ... they'll be SO inconsistent in this World Cup.
