whilst Kate Bush is still alive and kicking, I really don't see any point whatsoever in Tori Amos who, at best, is a karaoke Kate.

Since when did a karaoke singer write great songs?

When Kate can connect to me on an emotional level with the constancy that Tori did in the 90s then I will entertain a discussion on the matter.

Kate is superior experimentally and influentially but that doesn't mean squat when you're sitting there in tears because Tori has yet again turned your insides to mush.

Never mind the fact that Tori is a better piano player.

And if Kate doesn't do exactly the same thing then I would consider you to be partially dead inside.

Call the doctor...I'm flat-lining.

Maybe 5 Kate songs have any emotional effect on me - A Woman's Work, The Man with the Child in His Eyes, maybe This Will Never Be Mine. That's not to say I don't find another 20 odd Kate songs to be brilliant, I do. She rarely brings a lump to my throat.

Every time I play one of Kate's album, at least one track would bring the old lump to my throat.

Never had that at all with Tori.

That's where different. I'm sure there's many who would prefer someone else.

Absolutely. At least you like some of Kate's stuff.

Unfortunately Tori's music leaves me completely cold.

You gotta be kidding! Kate was great but Tori, well, she's just the greatest (IMO).

I find Tori's Winter is more emotional than any Kate Bush song. The first time I heard it I was in tears.
Just made a b-sides and rarities cd. Needless to say it's better than most albums ever recorded.

not in this order - I can't remember the order but the covers all went at the end

Here in My Head

Upside Down

Sugar

Flying Dutchmen

Song for Eric

Sweet Dreams

Take to the Sky

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Thank You

Over It

Honey

Sister Janet

Losing My Religion

Cooling

Bachelorette

Purple People

Siren

Carnival

Mountain

it's strange that I like none of the b-sides from the Boys for Pele singles.

Erm, not at all. Kate's output has been far greater (IMO)

let's not argue about this. It's evident that Kate is more influential and experimental but some of us prefer Tori.
If you made a 80min compilation of the best work of both then I would struggle to say which I prefer. However Kate's would be quite clear cut where as I'd have to cut down from about 40 Tori tracks.
Based on an 80 min compilation I'd go with Kate for the wow factor (no pun intended) but, like Dandy, I think Tori just has more great songs.

I'm utterly gobsmacked that anyone in public can honestly, hand on heart, say that they prefer Tori Aimless over Kate Bush.

The people who prefer Aimless over Bush are probably just too young to remember the actual impact Bush made. It's like, to take this to base level, people saying they love GaGa but loathe Madonna - it's a bizarre chicken/egg scenario. There simply wouldn't be one without the other, and whilst imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - there comes a time where surely any true artist finds a niche of their own. Aimless hasn't - album after album, we're hearing the same Kate-lite songs - not similarities, but... well... pastiches. "Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be....".

Aimless has made one decent album - Little Earthquakes. 'Precious Things' is incredible. However, her turgid ditties about rape, abuse, blah blah bloody blah... it's like 6th form poetry for beginners. I find her absolutely toe-curlingly bad after Little Earthquakes'... deliberately, laughably obtuse... and just a bit.... sad and desperate (I seriously hate how she sits astride her piano stool in gigs and tells 'kooky' stories about her 'kooky' life. It's like Cyndi Lauper goes serious).

My absolute least favourite artist.... I thought she was a Kate Bush for the Americans who simply didn't 'get' Kate.....

I am gobsmacked that you dont get the concept of someone prefering an inferior artist. I know full well Kate was and is an innovator but I'd be lying (hand on heart) if I said I prefer her body of work as a whole to Tori's.

This is the same with lots of artists. There are people who prefer Oasis to Stone Roses, people who prefer Coldplay over U2, people who prefer Gaga over Madonna.

Just because you hate her does mean she has zero talent. She's clearly an accomplished piano player.
