BREAK: Nadine Coyle has been laid low with shingles

POP STAR Nadine Coyle (23) has been forced to quit the music business for one month after being struck down with shingles.

Doctors have ordered bed rest for the Girls Aloud singer in order to beat the virus.

The Derry girl was given an emergency medical appointment after falling sick earlier this week. She was suffering with a soaring temperatureand agonising pain and nearly collapsed in her LA apartment.

Worried friends rushed the singer to the doctors, who diagnosed shingles.

The illness, a skin complaint caused by the same virus as chickenpox, is often associated with stress or illness that affects the immune system.

Her bandmate and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole said Nadine has been confined to bed.

"She is really ill with it and can't come to any engagements," said Cheryl. "Poor Nadine was complaining of feeling unwell for a while but it really hit her badly in the last few days.

"She couldn't even get on the plane because she was so unwell so it's really important for her to get a break now. We're all rooting for her and hope she gets well soon. She can have all the time off she needs to get better," said Cheryl.

People close to Nadine have put her recent exhaustion down to her gruelling schedule with Girls Aloud and her transatlantic commuting.

"She is on long-haul flights every couple of weeks because she spends so much time in Los Angeles," said a friend. "It leaves her feeling very tired and everything has caught up with her recently. Everyone is telling her to slow down a bit because she can't keep up this schedule. It's clearly making her ill.

"She's also the main singer in the band so that comes with a lot of stress and pressure too," the friend added. "She needs to get her energy levels up and then she can rejoin the girls next month."

Nadine, who is dating NY Giants American Football star Jason Bell, has spent most of the past two months in LA, where her family run an Irish theme bar.

Looks like it's very serious :o

Hopefully she'll be fine for the X Factor appearance. I'm sure she will.

Yeah shingles lasts for about a week and then recovery should last no more than a week. I think considering it was diagnosed sometime between monday and wednesday she will be fully back to health by 6th Oct - thankfully plenty of time before X Factor.
When I had shingles it lasted like 5/6 weeks for it to properly stop, but then I supose everyone is different, hope shes fine for the X-factor performance
