October 7, 200816 yr It is very likely to be true. Certainly BMRB knew the regions where the main sales were coming from. A lot of those re-issues out of the Northern Soul Scene, caused almighty problems. There was a lot of speculation, that the 1975 re-issued "I`m Gonna Run Away From You", and Tami Lynn (released 3 times from the 60s/70s) should have actually re-entered the top 20 back in the Spring of 75. This time though, I believe it just scraped in at 37. That's really interesting Dave, and just a bit shocking. Was this applied equally to songs that charted only in London and the south? I can't think of an example offhand, but I know that there was a 1980 Dusty Springfield single, Your Love Still Brings Me To My Knees, which is meant to have topped the charts on Capital Radio, but didn't make the national charts at all... My local radio station (Lincs FM) ran a local chart in the early-mid 90s (possibly before) based on sales and airplay on the station. Although it was strictly MOR, songs by artists like Scooter and Mark'Oh regularly made the top 10!
