Yeah Massive Atack very cool, Portishead and Tricky...recent albums that you gotta want in your collection...but if you went away from trip-hop for a moment and thinkabout all the acts opperating in the under the genres of Acid Jazz / Groundbeat / Rare Groove / Skunk Funk (and probs some blue-eyed soul depending on whether the irony is good enough  ) which acts records are good enough to have in your collection (original vinyl than download or compilation  ) or cool enough for late night candlelite bar play....and which are so embarrassing that you would not buy a best of acid jazz collection or would make you walk out to a pub playing Oasis on the jukey....

Jamiroquai - When You Gonna Learn

Jamiroquai - Emergency On Planet Earth

Galliano - Roofing Tiles

Galliano - Prince Of Peace

Blair - have fun go mad (but you may know it from the Tweenies cover)

Freakpower - Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out (but you may know Ashley Slater from his recurring role as a furry handbag in Jim Jam and Sunny)

Diana Brown & Barrie K Sharp - the Masterplan

Stakka Bo & Titiyo - We Vie

Stakka Bo - Down the Drain

Stereo MC's - Deep Down And Dirty

Stereo MC's - Lost In Music

Curiosity Killed The Cat - Name And Number (Ring Ring Ring Ha Ha Hey)

Daryl Hall & John Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)

I'm quite like a bit of that mid90s acid jazz style sort of stuff. Another one to add is Young Disciples "Apparently Nothing" - a class track!

I adore "The Masterplan" aswell.

yeah - tho the singer ended up in the Brand New Heavies for a bit (via Paul Weller's albums) and yeah they were a bit bland in parts - which is the point that the reviewer of the recent ffrr gold, silver platnum box set brought up as well....and here is the artful dodger remix of the BNH version of Apparently Nothing - and you think how bad remixes of this sort sound these days...(even with tv advertised best of bassline albums coming no doubt this 4x4xMas  ) ....when Artful Dodger was in the chart used to think that they were really good...have got an Artful Dodger album but think i may pass over it for something from the 1980s

The Brand New Heavies - Apparently Nothing (Artful Dodger Mix)
