I don't like all of these screaming and screeching songs that go on for 19 minutes or something... lol.

The likes of Lacuna Coil, Leaves' Eyes, Nightwish, Within Temptation, A Perfect Circle, Tool, SOAD, etc, do NOT "screech". They have seriously good vocalists with good technical, harmonic voices (the harmonies of System's Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian are really quite beautiful sometimes...), and can emote and project their voices extremely well.... Metallica's James Hetfield has a good, strong male vocal, he dont screech much.... Neither does Corey from Slipknot anymore, he kind of sings much more now than he used to, listen to "Vermillion part two" or "Gehenna"....

You'd probably like the quieter Opeth tracks, like "Harvest" or "In My Time of Need"....

Your ears get conditioned to the growls and screeches though, and it just becomes second nature... As for 19 minute tracks....So long as they're interesting and have lots of ideas running through them.... Pink Floyd's "Echoes" lasts about 20-odd minutes and is frankly fukkin' amazing when you're in the right mood (and smoking a spliff  )....

Anyway, this aint exactly the preserve of Metal, I take it you aint familiar with Ambient House, '90s Chill Out music like The Orb....? Orbital....? System 7...? Aphex Twin....?

I was defending myself and your arrogance to assume anybody who buys something associated to him as 'stupid' or 'sheep'

And, by the way Adam, calling someone who doesn't have low-brow tastes "arrogant" is actually just as bad as the elitism you claim to be against.... It's got nowt to do with "arrogance", maybe people might have better things to do on a Saturday night....

The reasons I hate "X-Cacktor - simple,

1. The ridiculous assumption that manufactured pop is the biggest selling music out there, when it blatantly isn't from the examples I gave

2. The bias against a popular Rock singer (like an Amy Lee or a Liam Gallagher) or a talented singer-songwriter (like a Kate Bush or a John Lennon) ever being being likely to emerge from this sorry excuse for a "talent" show in favour of yet more "divas", girl bands or boy groups (yawn....).

3. There is no encouragement to the contestants to work on their OWN material, it's only ever bloody Karaoke sh!t... And if they DONT have songs written, well, what does that say...? Hardly committed to being a 'musical artiste' are they...?

4. It only ever seems to be about the ego of the Judges and their petty squabbles and arguments... It seems to me that the competition between the Judges is more important than the quest for "new talent".

5. The ever-increasing amount of stupid stories, rumours and conspiracies that get "leaked" to the press....

6. The fact that they seem to continually have these "problems" with the phone voting...

7. The fact that, at any given opportunity the Judges can elect to "save" a favourite who has already been voted off by the public vote....

8. The fact that if this format were given to somone like Paul McCartney or Alan McGee to run with, something a HELL of a lot better would come out of it, and I think we damn well KNOW it.....

i thought this was a saturdays - chasing lights thread not a metal music discussion thread? maybe it's just me?

rock/metal are being used as examples to compare... which is pertainant in this discussion.

you saturday fans really ought to calm down alittle, you personailse them too much, you don't have to get abusive, angry, silly, dumb. you reply as if it's YOU who are the saturdays, as if YOU are their representative. if we want to express an opinion as to what we think the future holds for the saturdays then that fine, if you want to oppose it then thats fine, but talk from a neutral perspective and not as the saturdays champion, their knight in shining armour.

i don't care whether or not the saturdays do take off and become 'big', they might, but atm i see no evidence that they'll be anything other then a two album wonder.

yes but why compare them to rock/metal - they are so far apart the comparison is just pointless

I think the comparison in your POV is about the musical taste whereas they are comparing sales, quality of songs and pop culture.

Where is Aly when you need him? A mod needs to clear this up. As lovely as this discussion about Simon Cowell's ethics may be, it doesn't belong in a thread about a group who have absolutely nothing to do with the man.

no need for that at all... bj needs MORE threads like this, to challenge and test peoples brain.

I don't contest that, just not to the detriment of being able to discuss the music. By all means have a topic about it, just don't turn any old random thread into that. Keep this to the Saturdays... and if it's in a separate thread, you need not keep coming in here which works out well for you, since you dislike the Sats, and us, since we dislike your anti-Sats rants!

i dont dislike 'you' fans, only some of the things you say sometimes. i dont even dislike the saturdays that much, theres far worse out there! i dislike the hype, and am not keen on manufactured music.

Oh dear, your still at it. I was rather hoping you'd all have stopped by the time i came back online ;) I honestly don't have a clue what to do with this thread anymore.

you ought to be pleased that theres such a popular thread that has not only licked the saturdays arses but has included some good debate. again, bj needs MORE threads where debate is ongoing and less arse licking.

If you want to debate, then do, but with people who also want to. We no longer want to, it's been going on for what feels like years, and you're just going round in circles. Accept that we like their music and move on...
i have won free tickets to go see an upclose and personal gig with Taio Cruz and The Saturdays next Wednesday in Glasgow woohoo!!!!!

Woo lucky you!

Saturdays - Chasing Lights 43,961 - nice sales. Just 2k less than Suga's!
