I dunno if I'm looking forward to this much. I do generally like the movies but Goblet Of Fire was a pile of w*** that left me bored $h!tless and Order Of The Phoenix was just 'okay' for me. We'll see though ... I personally liked the earlier films better tbh. The first three were amazing.

same here. the first one was wicked but each one gradually got darker and more boring in my opinion. i'm not sure which one's i've actually seen but i've definitely seen the first 3. and then i watched the one in 2007 which was rubbish so i definitely wont be watching this one. the trailer doesn't excite me in the slightest.

My opinion. The first two films were the worst...they followed the books too religiously. You need to treat movies and books differently, and the first two dragged. I loved when Alfonso Cuaron took a more artsy/different approach when he took on Prisoner of Azkabana, which remains my favorite movie.

I really love this new director a lot though. I have a feeling Deathly Hallows could top my list (or tie with PoA, as the book is). Half-Blood Prince had some really amazing direction, but I just really dislike the book. The worst of the series. It's too much of a bridge between OotP and DH rather than its own entity, with really not that much happening over the span of the book. And no offense to JK, but she's more suited to storytelling/mysteries/action than romance.

Hmmm, in two minds about this.

As Jark's mentioned, it begins wonderfully. The opening scenes in London are well done, and sets the tone for the rest of the movie (DARK) perfectly.

I also thought some of the comedic touches worked well, understated but effective - Harry doing the spider pincers, the characters of Luna, Lavender and Cormac in general.

And although at first I was worried by some of the characters who were left out of the movie, because they play important roles in the final book, thinking about it I guess most of them could be worked around anyway.

The Tonks/Lupin partnership could easily replace Bill/Fleur for the wedding and Shell Cottage scenes - although I'd have loved to have had Fleur feature. Likewise Cornelius Fudge could be brought back to fill in for Scrimgeour. The only one which seemed odd was the lack of Kreacher - although not essential in this installment, he will be in the future, and would perhaps have been sensible to have had him feature just to keep the link going.

Bad points - Jim Broadbent just didn't do Slughorn justice, he didn't really get across any of Slughorn's key characteristics effectively.

Daniel Radcliffe is still pretty wooden at times and incapable of doing emotion properly. His reaction to Dumbledore being killed off was quite muted at least until the chase. Of the "kiddies", Tom Felton was much better, putting in a convincing turn as "angsty" Malfoy.

The romance elements were just far too obvious. Whereas the books had Harry liking Ginny as a gradual process, there was no attempt at that here. And Hermione's reaction to Ron/Lavender was forced and unrealistic.

The ending - total anti-climax. Partly due to the previously mentioned issue; Radcliffe doesn't do emotion well. But also the lack of confrontation between the Death Eaters and the Hogwarts lot - Bellatrix and co were able to just waltz out of the castle without anyone lifting a finger? HUH? And I do think the film suffered for not having Dumbledore's funeral - the last scene was just odd and didn't really convey the total up-$h!t-creek-without-a-paddle situation that Harry was in. It was almost as if Harry and co were planning to go out on a picnic.

And I didn't see what the point of Fenrir Greyback in this movie was at all. He did NOTHING. Considering the producers had no problem with cutting out half of the cast, I'm surprised they bothered with Greyback.

All I want to say is - Helena Boham Carter was the best casting decision ever. She fits the character of Bellatrix SO WELL, I think I love her

Overall, I thought the movie was fantastic, but I agree about Broadbent being slightly unfit for the character of Slughorn.

Its really nice to see this video. Thanks for sharing it, i have to something to share with you about this movie which i found from one site.

I was meant to go see it last night, but we got there and trust me to forget the credit card and booking details! :( I was gutted, we managed to go back and get the stuff and then drive all the way back to the cinema but then when we walked into the cinema it had started. It might have only been one minute but still I didn't want to miss a tiny bit so decided to leave instead, we asked if there was any other avaiable showings but they were all fully booked. I was in a bad mood all night, but I have nobody to blame apart from myself. Hopefully going to see it tonight though.
There are new totals today marking the financial success of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Variety is reporting that Warner Bros has announced that HBP "grossed a magical $58.4 million from 4,275 theaters as it opened Wednesday at the domestic B.O., including a potent $22.2 million in midnight shows."

The piece also notes that HBP "was pacing well ahead of the $44 million earned by "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on its opening Wednesday exactly two years ago. "Order of the Phoenix" posted a five-day opening gross of $139.7 million...Forecasts for the five-day opening vary. Some are predicting "Half-Blood Prince" would post a five-day domestic opening of $125 million to $150 million, while others put it higher."

On the international front, Variety points out that Half-Blood Prince "is opening day-and-date in every major overeas territory. "Harry Potter" films have been even more successful overseas, and no one's willing to handicap how high "Half-Blood Price" will go in foreign realms. "Order of the Phoenix" grossed $646.2 million internationally and $292 million domestically. Early estimates showed "Half-Blood Prince" grossing north of $3.2 million in Australia, the third best opening day gross ever after the last two "The Lord of the Rings" pics." TLC reader Verity owled to point out this additional article from the Australian opening that they have the number as 4.37 Million and the figure "is also the highest Wednesday result of all time in Australia, and the highest opening day figure on a non-public holida

It wasn't going to beat Transformers or Dark Knight though as it didn't have the IMAX opening in the States which is disappointing, but still fantastic.

Im in two minds about going to the cinema to watch this, i think its gonna be far too crowded but at the same time, i wanna see it in full HQ...
I went to see it last night and I loved it. It was so different to the other films, hard to say exactly how but there was something about it. It felt as if the cast really grew up, they weren't kids anymore. It seemed more targeted to an adult audience, I thought. I thought the three main cast members, Dan, Rupert and Emma were fantastic. Especially Rupert, I was really surprised with him, he made everyone laugh when he was with Harry and Slughorn and falling off the couch and everything. Emma was great too and she really was convincable when she cried over Ron being with Lavender, that was so sad. Alan Rickman as Snape was perfect too, he was the best he could have been. Also thought Tom Felton really stepped up a notch in this film. Not the best, still hasn't beaten Prisoner of Azkaban but it was still really good!
I still think Tom Felton is wooden as anything, and it really shows when he's surrounded by the likes of Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham-Carter.

I was actually surprised with how good Tom Felton was in this film. ;o Nothing stunning but a solid performance. Actingwise this has probably been the best film yet. Prisoner of Azkaban just holds a special place in my heart.

Oh, I still dislike Ginny and the actress who plays her. :/ Blahhhyawn.

Otherwise, the acting was great. Luna is especially amazing, she stole whatever scenes she was in. My issue was just with the script and the pacing of the movie.

I still think Tom Felton is wooden as anything, and it really shows when he's surrounded by the likes of Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham-Carter.

To be fair, there are very few out there who would be able to shine alongside Rickman or Bonham-Carter, who are both FANTASTIC.

But I really don't think Tom Felton was any worse than the other kids. I'd say Radcliffe is more wooden.

I saw this on Thursday and I really liked it! I liked Slughorn and I LOVE Luna, and I share what some people have said about Ginny, Malfoy and Harry - all poor actors imo. It wasn't my favourite HP movie but it's up there I think.

I also agree about Helena Bonham Carter, I LOVE her  And I think she really steals the scenes she's in in this film.

I saw this yesterday and thought it was brill. Definately the best yet!

I'm quite disappointed at some scenes that they cut including Dumbledore destroying that ring, and his funeral.

01 The Half-Blood Prince

02 The Prisoner Of Azkaban

03 The Order Of The Phoenix

04 The Philophoser's(sp? :P) Stone

05 The Goblet Of Fire

06 The Chamber Of Secrets

I still think Tom Felton is wooden as anything, and it really shows when he's surrounded by the likes of Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham-Carter.

You clearly cannot backup your comment about Felton's acting style when you compare it to two amazing actors. He was particularly better than Radcliffe, if you thought Felton was wooden; I'd say Radcliffe was stone.

To be fair, there are very few out there who would be able to shine alongside Rickman or Bonham-Carter, who are both FANTASTIC.

But I really don't think Tom Felton was any worse than the other kids. I'd say Radcliffe is more wooden.

I'd agree.

Come on Jark, pretty much ANYONE is gonna come off second best when they're compared alongside two serious Thesps such as Rickman and Bonham Carter (whose acting abilities are both just off the scale let's be honest here..), I mean, come on..... A fairer comparison would be the rest of the kids... And, well, frankly, I dont think that Tom Felton is in reality any worse than Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson.....

As to the film - on first viewing - really good.... So much better than the previous two films by a long way, imo; much darker, more well thought out, better scripted and structured... NEEDED to last the two and a half hours (although, I could happily have sat through it if it was three hours or more tbh....), the photography was excellent, even Peter Jackson couldn't do better in terms of making the film look good, absolutely seamless FX. David Yates has almost certainly improved from Order of the Phoenix (which I thought rather poor) to this one in leaps and bounds.... In terms of the mood and atmosphere, definitely more like the one Alfredo Cuaron built up in "..Azkhaban", in fact, this is for me the second best HP film after "...Azkhaban".....

I'm going to see this today ... alot of my friends have said it's really boring and nothing that much happens in it, but I should probably watch it coz it'll make sense to the last two films. :( I'm not looking forward to it, I hate sitting in films when I'm just bored out of my mind.

I'll still reserve judgement til when I actually see it though.

I'm going to see this today ... alot of my friends have said it's really boring and nothing that much happens in it

Not much happens????? Are your mates just dumbasses....?

The death of Dumbledore and Snape's betrayal of Hogwarts

is what they class as "not much happening"...... I suppose if it doesn't have explosions going off every 5 minutes it's not a "proper" film to these "attention span of goldfish" numpties.....

I agree. I *hate* the criticism that 'nothing happens'. If it were up to me I wouldn't even have included the attack on the Burrow; I'd rather we'd seen Hokey's memory of Tom's visit to Hepzibah Smith personally.
