November 17, 200816 yr thats irrelevant, he was part of the process and unlike the other two anonymous faces he refused to die and has continued to champion himself as a pop impresario when in fact he is nothing more then a parasitic maggot feeding off the music business. Hear, Hear sir.....
November 21, 200816 yr Author To compare the musical landscape before and after Waterman just look & listen to the first two Band Aid singles from 1984 & 1989. True, the '89 version was embarrassingly bad, but it's still far better than the 2004 version! :P Now that was BAD!

November 22, 200816 yr You don't like him then? It's safe to say that NEITHER myself nor Rob likes Watertw@t.... And, like with Manufactured Pop groups today, the Watertw@t artist's so-called "popularity" is somewhat of an illusion... The biggest selling Rock Acts in the 1980s were absolutely TROUNCING on SAW in terms of album sales... A case in point... Guns 'N' Roses's "Appetite For Destruction" has sold in excess of 28 Million copies.. The first Kylie album, er, only HALF of this figure.....  And, put it this way, which of the two is more of an embarrassment to admit you bought.....? :P You can see the same today with Metallica busting just about every manufactured act a new a-hole with their new album which has sold three million copies in only two months.....
November 22, 200816 yr True, the '89 version was embarrassingly bad, but it's still far better than the 2004 version! :P Now that was BAD! NO WAY! the original is still a decent crimbo song, sung with the spur of the moment passion that often creates a classic track (many great tracks were spur of the moment). the 89 version is utterly carp... tips comparison was spot on.

Agreed... But to be fair, even the 89 version is slightly less cr@p than that 2004 abomination....
November 22, 200816 yr I didn't even know they'd made a new one in 2004?!it was number one for a month, sold over a million copies and was the top seller of the year!. Went under the monicker Band Aid 20 and begins with Chris Martin and features Bono reprising (badly) his 1984 line. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HzlQD_aqgnc It was dreadful. It did feature the 1984 original on the B side, which was the version I bought it for. It does mean that the original Band Aid song has sold over 4.6m copies when you factor in sales of the 1984 original, the 1985 re-issue,the 2004 re-hash with the original on the B side and download sales since 2005. It has also appeared on Now (That's What I Call) Christmas which has sold well over 1.5m copies in its various editions (the 1985 original edition being the best seller, it was revamped in the 90s - twice - and again in 2003 or so.)

I meant the '89 version was better than the 2004 version. The original '84 version is still a great tune, but it was completely butchered in 2004.
