dont think they said what was on next week. alright show to watch!!!

According to radiotimes.com, in the listings guide for next Saturday the year is....

1997!

apart from Diana's death, what else happened in the summer of 1997? Nothing springs immediately to mind.

plus I forgot about the programme being on last night. Does anyone know if it's repeated on one of the digital channels during the week?

I don't understand why they chose 1997. It has no cultural reference point, nor any memorable event until Diana's death, and that occured at the tail end of the summer.

1995 would have been a better year to have chosen, but even that is only remembered these days for one week in August when Blur and Oasis went head to head in the singles chart. It did have more than this though, including the whole Britpop thing as well as being the second hottest summer of the 20th century (beaten only by 1976).

think its gonna be called the Summer of britpop

for Britpop, it's 2 years out of date though! By 1997 Britpop was on the wane. Blur had moved on to a new sound and Oasis were releasing Be Here Now, which isn't fondly remembered.

Did anyone here goto any raves back in the late 80's?

It was a good show, despite SAW and Rave there were some good songs about in '89. They played Danny Wilson's Second Summer Of Love one of my faves from that year, I bought the single :D

Interestingly, looking at the chart from June 1989, the top 2 were new entries. Very rare back then. It was Cliffs 100th single!!

1 - NEW - 01 - Jason Donovan - SEALED WITH A KISS

1 - NEW - 02 - Cliff Richard - THE BEST OF ME

04 - 01 - 03 - Gerry Marsden, Paul McCartney, Holly Johnson And The Christians - FERRY CROSS THE MERSEY

09 - 02 - 04 - Natalie Cole - MISS YOU LIKE CRAZY

02 - 10 - 05 - Madonna - EXPRESS YOURSELF

02 - 19 - 06 - Sinitta - RIGHT BACK WHERE WE STARTED FROM

08 - 03 - 07 - Lynne Hamilton - ON THE INSIDE

10 - 14 - 08 - Guns N' Roses - SWEET CHILD O' MINE

04 - 05 - 09 - Neneh Cherry - MANCHILD

03 - 07 - 10 - Donna Summer - I DON'T WANNA GET HURT

I might be wrong, but wasn't that only the second time the top 2 had been new entries (excluding the very first chart). There was Band Aid and Wham in December 1984 and I think this was the only the second time.

I watched this earlier on today and enjoyed it. I was never really into all the rave stuff though, not for me but a good programme.

1989 brings back so many memores, i was 17 and at college that year, and i can remember it being hot. We used to take some lessons outside...i even recall taking my shirt off one hot afternoon it was so hot.

A lot of the music brings back memories from those days...yes including the cheesy s/a/w stuff which i know a lot of people don't like, but each to their own.

I have a pretty diverse taste from rock to pop, and some dance & country.

But anyway a good programme, i agree about 1997, it wasn't that great a year.

I styarted going to 'raves' in '88.... when the whole acid house stuff really began (not 89).

They were always fun, naughty and you'd meet some great people. Of course, the police were, as always, horrendous, needlessly violent, intrusive and corrupt.

88 and 89 were fantastic years - they marked my first journey to Ibiza, too, as well as the illegal raves - fun times... what a shame dance has stooped to an all-time low these days, though.....
