again id find it hard to compile a list, but not because id have too many choices...but by 76 id have too few. in fact theres nothing from 76 (not even anarchy in the uk) that id classify as good enough to rank alongside other years favs..

If it helps I had a lot of trouble with '76. Certainly not a great year for music

Nope, I've tried, but I can't find anything else from '76 that I like that much. So I'll stick with The Damned - New Rose. The riff is fantastic! In second place would be Anarchy In The UK though.

Oh, just realised KC & The Sunshine Band - Keep It Comin Love was out in '76. I LOVE that one! Hmmm

1970 Fleetwood Mac - The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown)

1971 The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

1972 Kinks - Celluloid Heroes

1973 David Bowie - Life On Mars

1974 Paul McCartney & Wings - Band On The Run

1975 Led Zeppelin - Kashmir

1976 Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK

1977 David Bowie - Heroes

1978 Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights

1979 Elvis Costello & Attractions - Oliver's Army

I began to compile a year end top 40 from 1977 to the mid 80s so these were the songs that I picked at the time...

1977: Year Of The Cat - Al Stewart

1978: Le Freak - Chic

1979: Le Freak - Chic

still like both songs and Le Freak is still one of my favourite songs of all time.

Had I compiled a year end chart before then I would have chosen Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen for both 1975 and 1976 as I loved the song to death at the time. For 1974 it would have been Tiger Feet by Mud and prior to 1974 I couldn't really say as I was too young to follow music at the time and the era 1970 to 1973 isn't, in retrospect, an era I care much for.

1970 Mr Bloe - Groovin With mr Bloe

1971 East of Eden - Jig a Jig

1972 Alice Cooper - Elected

1973 Vicky Leandros - When Bouzoukis Played

1974 Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown

1975 Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel - (make me smile) Come up and See Me

1976 Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK

1977 Jam - All Around the World

1978 Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights , Public Image LTD - Public Image (cant chose)

1979 Skids - Into the Valley

another vote for kate bush and 'wuthering heights', :) , another track that i still enjoy listening too .. i think its appeal is that it was unique, it went against the current two major trends...punk and disco, besides it is a beautiful track.... kate bush really does put these modern x factor, fulleresque, 'pop princesses' bints to shame.... in fact id go so far as to suggest that 'wuthering heights' is the best ever solo female single of all time.

I think most people in this forum all agree how special KB is.

It would have been a much sadder place for me in my teens without her music around.

And damn Cowell to hell for calling her pretentious!

My list is not very scientific, I didn't put too much thought into it, but who cares - lol:

1970 Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel

1971 My Sweet Lord - George Harrison

1972 Happy Christmas (War Is over) - John Lennon
