Posted December 2, 200816 yr 9A7K0dRv26I Exclusive: Mode return Depeche Mode return on April 20 with their new album, Teletext can reveal. The as-yet-untitled album follows 2005's Playing The Angel and is again produced by Ben Hillier. Two songs - Wrong and Dave Gahan/Martin Gore duet Peace - were previewed at a press conference in October. They play a one-off gig at London O2 on May 30. It's rumoured the new album will see them leave Mute for a new label. However last time i read something about Depeche - they had signed worldwide to EMI...who are actually the owner of Mute
December 6, 200816 yr Author I can't wait for this, love them! and i think Dave is also the vocalist on the new frYars record...
December 6, 200816 yr Britain's best (and least recognised) band since The Smiths IMO - I for one hope the new album is as good as the phenomenal Playing The Angel.
December 7, 200816 yr They are my fave band all time, enough said. I have huge expectations from DM's next album. Also I'm very happy because they will perform live on my country next year. DM next tour (Tour of the Universe) will be massive!
December 7, 200816 yr I will see also live in Leipzig! :w00t: I think Depeche Mode is underraten in UK, but in the rest of Europe they were massive! Did they ever have an UK no 1?
December 7, 200816 yr I will see also live in Leipzig! :w00t: I think Depeche Mode is underraten in UK, but in the rest of Europe they were massive! Did they ever have an UK no 1? Nope :( Their highest peak was 4, with People Are People, Barrell Of A Gun and Precious. Did they have any German number ones?
December 7, 200816 yr DM's electropop routes ruined them in their homeland - nobody, to this day, takes them very seriously. For as brilliant a songwriter as Martin Gore to never have won an Ivor Novello (or a Brit.... apart from, wasn't it, a best video one year?) is astonishing and ridiculous. And they're ignored by Radio as well - deemed "too old" (and interesting and original) for dull Radio One, and too 'leftfield' for Radio Two. Depeche Mode records being played on daytime radio in the UK? Never. It's high-time DM were recognised - maybe a Lifetime Achievement Brit award beckons now that the UK's other electro stalwarts Pet Shop Boys are to be awarded the gong in Feb 2009?
December 7, 200816 yr According to Wiki: 2 No 1 in Germany and a lot of No. 2. I thing they were even recognise in USA in the club scene  .
December 13, 200816 yr Author According to Wiki: 2 No 1 in Germany and a lot of No. 2. well think thats obv - esp with the covers by scooter and rammstein

Of course their well-known hits like Enjoy The Silence still get airplay, but no one's pushing their newer stuff which is a shame. Looking forward to the new album. I didn't realise Radio 2 didn't playlist them, i thought they did, in fact i'm almost certain they have playlisted them in the past. 'Precious' must have got a few plays on there. I've seen Echo & The Bunnymen's newer stuff appear on their playlist.
January 1, 200916 yr Author It's high-time DM were recognised - maybe a Lifetime Achievement Brit award beckons now that the UK's other electro stalwarts Pet Shop Boys are to be awarded the gong in Feb 2009? isnt it time fot emi to do 101 hits of electro as PSB, Depeche, erasure, OMD and human league are emi acts...
January 5, 200916 yr That'd be cool tigerboy, but they already did 100 80s Hits, and for some reason people lump all 80s music together... Anyway been going through a bit of a DM phase lately. BF got the Best Of CD/DVD for Christmas, and I have had Everything Counts stuck in my head for days. Did anyone ever sample that? Sure it's got to be a dance anthem in the making...
January 13, 200916 yr Not only Depeche Mode, Erasure are bringing out TOTAL POP on 23rd Feb. It's all here: http://sheenabeaston.blogspot.com/search?u...p;max-results=7 :w00t:
January 17, 200916 yr Depeche Mode Announce New Album Details XFM.co.uk added 16 January 2009 at 12.27 'Sounds Of The Universe' will be released by the veteran synth-pop band in April... Depeche Mode are going to release a new album later this year. 'Sounds Of The Universe' is coming out on April 20 and frontman Dave Gahan has said that making the album was like "looking outside and a yearning for somehow coming together..." Whatever that means. Tracks will include 'Hole To Feed', 'Jezebel', 'Fragile Tension' and 'Peace'. "It's nice to be at this stage of our careers and be making good records and getting along well," an unusually cheery Andy Fletcher told Billboard. He says that the first single, 'Wrong', is a statement against "bubble-gum pop." Fletch also commented on the Mode's enormotour for 2009, which reaches London's O2 Arena on May 30. "In some ways, what's bizarre is that we're actually playing to more people now than even at the height of our chart success with 'Violator,'" he muses. "I think it's down to different generations listening to Depeche Mode. We've been going for nearly 30 years, and it has just grown and grown and grown." 'Sounds Of The Universe' will be released on Mute on April 20.
January 17, 200916 yr I've heard a one-minute snippet of 'Wrong' and it sounds incredible... very 'Personal Jesus', with the single starting similarly.... just Martin Gore saying over and over again the title... then the song roars to life.
January 19, 200916 yr DM are treated rather disgustingly in their own country, by the media, by radio pluggers, neither of them know how to cope with them, too "pop" to be considered "alternative", too "alternative" to be considered "pop"... It's a bit like Client who get disrespected here as well, but do well in Europe... DM have a pretty huge fanbase in UK though (not so Client unfortunately) regardless of the Press's prejudices, they've sold out the 02 Arena within hours of tickets going on sale... This country has a pathetic attitude frankly, not just to DM, but to genuine individuality in music generally, the press bums rubbish like X-Factor, grossly overhypes stuff like The Saturdays (All Saints-by-numbers), or Katy Perry (below average Avril wannabe at BEST)... The net result of this, a lot of false impressions of the "worth" of certain acts at the expense of others such as DM who have consistently put out strong material since "Some Great Reward", have sold something like 100 million albums throughout their 28 year history, and yet who is it that ends up with the Artist Forums on BJ....? Certainly not the likes of DM that's for sure..... I'm looking forward to this album, if it's on a par with, or better than, Dave Gahan's last solo effort, it'll be very good indeed.....

Certainly not the likes of DM that's for sure..... I'm looking forward to this album, if it's on a par with, or better than, Dave Gahan's last solo effort, it'll be very good indeed..... Yesterday on the radio they played the new Hilary Duff song 'Reach Out', as many people you'd expect to say 'omg its hawt, the best song ever' the radio dj harshly criticized Hilary for ripping off DM's 'Personal Jesus'. Hilary always trying to sound more alternative always ends up sounding cheap pop rockish, thus the hideous song being an insult to DM according to a majority of the listeners.. Even though this isn't in the UK it shows that there are still a lot of music fans out there who aren't falling into the plastic pop trap.. Also DM are massive globally, still, as you'd expect- their fans bashing Hilary Duff. But interestingly enough the quality music is what sells the most music, and as much as some boast about how huge an artist is on here, they really aren't.. Depeche Mode have always been more than impressive on almost every track and yeah the new album should be huge (huger than any pop star during the week of release). I guess the teens are the ones who are all pop-obsessed here. They're likely to mature in music taste as they grow older.. Who knows the GA fanatics could be converted into DM fanatics in a year or two's time.. (hopefully )
