Posted December 3, 200816 yr So I don't know if this has ever been mentioned before but I'm a regular user of Amazon and I've only come across it today. http://www.amazon.co.uk/MP3-Music-Download...p;node=77197031 They offer the most recent singles even current chart hits for 59p and album tracks for 69p. To top a lot of albums are extremely cheap like Take That's 'The Circus' which is 3.00 right now :o I just wondered if sales from it counted to the chart cos I just downloaded 'Issues' by The Saturdays and 'Use Somebody :heehee:
December 3, 200816 yr Amazon MP3 launches in the UK 10:59 | Wednesday December 3, 2008 By Ben Cardew Amazon has soft launched its long-awaited MP3 store in the UK today, offering MP3 downloads from all four of the majors and several independent labels at bargain prices. Amazon launched its MP3 store in the US late in 2007 and promised at Midem 2008 that it would roll this out globally by the end of the year. The launch has been long rumoured, with early reports suggesting that it would launch in September. The site, which operates off the main Amazon.co.uk site, is competing on price, with albums such as Take That’s The Circus available for just £3. Hits such as Girls Alouds’ Promises are available at 59p. Tracks on the site are encoded using variable bit rates for maximum audio quality and smaller file sizes, aiming at an average of 256kbps. ------------------- Music Week
December 3, 200816 yr Author Oh how very retarded of me :( I just read the mids thread after posting this
December 3, 200816 yr Author You download this free program which whenever you purchase an MP3 from them automatically downloads and adds it to your music player. Works on your i-pod too :)
December 3, 200816 yr I'm not sure if they are counted towards the chart but I know the singles are counted so, I should imagine they are. Food for thought... seems more sites are opening their own MP3 download areas, you can also download from Play.com now, its another stab at the physical single market.
December 3, 200816 yr Author I think Amazon's will definately take off eventually. Not as big as iTunes obvz but should do fairly well as a lot of people tend to use it. I only went on to buy last minute Xmas presents and stumbled across this so I can imagine a lot of others will. Great time of the year to launch it innit.

December 3, 200816 yr Can you convert these songs in itunes for the ipod? Never tried but I'm almost sure you can ;)
December 4, 200816 yr I'm not sure if they are counted towards the chart but I know the singles are counted so, I should imagine they are. Yeah they sure are, they didn't let me download TT album because I'm not in the UK, due to the charts rules obviously
December 4, 200816 yr I contacted the OCC earlier to ask about the cheap albums and have now received a reply - the chart eligibility is based on the price the record is sold to the retailer by the record company NOT the retail price to the customer. So for the sales to chart the minimum price that an album must bo sold to a retailer is £3.75 digital, £3.76 physical, however the retailer can sell it to you or me for 1p if they want. But there's another twist: "The chart rules refer to the dealer price and not to the actual retail selling price which is determined solely by the retailer, OCC does not set minimum selling prices in the chart rules. Amazon is not currently a chart reporting retailer so their sales will not be included in the UK charts this week."

I bet Amazon have taken hundreds of sales for TT album and they won't even count! :o Does this mean that singles/albums in Physical format are not counted in the charts either :o
December 4, 200816 yr The OCC told me in 2006 that Amazon.uk Sales, (Physical), DO count towards the UK Charts. They are a very big On-Line Retailer & I'd be very, very surprised if they were NOT included. It may be that their Digital Sales are not - yet - included in the UK Chart - as they have only just started Selling Digital Tracks. I'm sure that - soon - The OCC will be adding Amazon.uk Digital Sales to the UK Charts. Both Company's simply need to set up the means for that to happen.

Yep thinking about it they probably do mean just the digitals aren't yet chart eligible. It was just a poorly worded reply.

In that case, let's hope loads of people buy Leona's version of 'Run' there, so that it's sales don't count towards the chart... :) Edited December 5, 200816 yr by vidcapper
December 5, 200816 yr In that case, let's hope loads of people buy Leona's version of 'Run' there, so that it's sales don't count towards the chart... :) wishful thinking, EVen Though she is #1 on the amazon chart i doubt that many people are using amazon. she has sold 100k i think this wee already so. ONe GENERAL Q: WIll the add this weeks and next weeks sales from amazon onto next weeks chart, or would it just be forgotten about.

If sales are eligible from, say, Saturday midnight, only sales after that will count. As for how many people will use it, the number will surely rise extremely rapidly as word gets around - I'd guess before long it'll be second only to iTunes for UK download sales.
