yeah... cos you arnt a politically correct animal at all are you <_<

you are the boards biggest anglophobe, if anyone employed the rhetoric against ethnic races the way you do against white english, youd be in uproar.

and one character doesnt prove your point, my point stands.

Oh, my, my, aren't we all sensitive and touchy about that one... Yeah, I'm such an Anglophobe me, just because I pointed out to you that your Patron Saint was, in fact, a TURK or a PALESTINIAN......   Well, it dont alter the fact does it...? Neither does it alter the fact that your ancestors were a bunch of bullies, thieves and thugs who went into other people's countries and, literally, lorded it over them, enslaving them, subjugating them, normalising the "anglo-saxon" or Western European ways amongst the natives, and displacing the "other" (a bit like George Dumbfukk Bush Jr...), and thus creating the very genesis of modern concepts such as "racism" and white supremacy; again, is that MY fault for pointing out historical facts that you personally find unpalatable...? Anyway, the man who has come to be known as "St George" was actually BORN in the Middle East, which would kind of make him one of the first "asylum seekers" or "immigrants" innit...? Live with it 'Anglo Boy'.... :P  If I'm an 'Anglophobe', then you're a White Supremacist mate.....

And, your "point" is, that you basically HAVE no point.... Your petty prejudice against any kind of change in a long-running TV show is basically YOUR problem, not anyone else's, especially given that the character is OPEN to such changes (and it is ENTIRELY IRRELEVANT if no one has thought of doing this until now, just shows how cutting edge and bold Steve Moffatt and his crew actually is in considering this)..... I'm with Jark on this actually (which I certainly dont say often..), there really IS no point in discussing this with you, you're narrow-minded, petty and just plain ignorant on issues regarding race or sexuality.... -_- I mean, FFS, if you react this way with a TV show, God only knows how you'd react if a black, asian or immigrant family moved in next door to you.....

Oh, I can think of plenty of other negative Black characters that have been portrayed on TV shows (such as The Wire, where just about all the main drug dealer characters are black dudes, but again, the quality of the writing and characterisations lifts it out of the mere stereotyping category...) which I have no probs with.... My only problem is LAZY WRITING WHICH RELIES ON STOCKS AND STEREOTYPES, and that doesn't make me "PC", it makes me someone who actually appreciates GOOD QUALITY DRAMA you prat :P ..... I chose the one that I thought you'd be most familiar with.... Well, pardon me for even trying.....

ive never championed st george for anything... thats your beef not mine!

as for our ancestory bieng bullies, invaders, thugs... THEY WERE ALL AT IT! suse me, romans, saxons, vikings, normans... like these isles have been frequently invaded . but we have been no more guilty of war mongering thenanyone else in history... just maybe alittle more successful!

yep it is my prob, because i do have a fixed idea of the type of character that dr who should be portrayed as.... simply because thats how HE has been portrayed since i was 6 years old, and do not want to see it changed for the liberal pc brigade.

I can't see a black Dr Who tbh. :(

It does kinda mess with the whole flow of the series past in my opinion. Then again I was championing a black woman with ginger hair, glasses and a lesbian to boot to get the part so what do I know?

Apparently in the TV Guide RTD says the new Dr. has not been selected yet.

perhaps theyve changed their minds after reading this thread!

I think it's pretty much in set in STONE that Patterson Joesph is going to be the new Doctor, especially after what happened in Survivors...
whats with that other doctor in the christmas epsiode trail i saw? is that meant to be like peter davision era doctor, or someone who hasnt become toe doctor before.

hes never played the doctor before. but could make a good replacement for tennant.

Can a caucasian man play Othello?

I'm not fussed about ethenicity of the actor (I can think of one or two actresses even) who I think would make a good Doctor Who? Just as long as they feel right for the part, a certain je ne se quoi.

Btw, I noticed that the projection which showed the all the Doctors, didn't show Peter Cushing

I'm sure I've read their being an adaptation with an all Afro-American cast with a Caucasian playing the lead role.

Agreed. Certainly after watching the Christmas Dr Who that is definitely not the excellent David Morrissey. Although that could be the whole point to his character portrayal to show that he was human not a Timelord.....

The Cushing films were terrible US recyclings of old Hartnell stories, and Cushing's character was specifically a human scientist called Dr Who (due to Who actually being his surname) whom invented a Time Machine called the TARDIS.... So he does not count as he was not part of the franchise in the same way that Peter Sellers is not a former James Bond even though he played the character in the comedy spoof (the original) Casino Royale .... Mind you I have great dificulty reconciling the two Daniel Craig movies as Bond movies as they seem like an inferior Bourne Ultimatum rip offs......

Anyway what I was going to post is.....

New Dr Who announced in special Dr Who Confidential BBC 1 5:35pm 3rd Jan 2009

An announcement? :o If its Patterson Joseph after all this I'll be quite disappointed.

Looking at Betfair.com odds and how they have rapidly developed I think it sadly not going to be Patterson Joseph. However it looks very likely that is someone else that Billie Piper has acted with on more than occasion:

Matt Smith 4/6 odds on fav (from 7/1 this morning; 25/1 yesterday & no odds the day before!!!!!)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Smith_(British_actor)

http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/new...26/Matt-Smith/#

Patterson Joseph 11/8 (from 1/3 fav odds on this morning)

Chiwetel Ejiofor 11/4

Jack Davenport 4/1 (from 14/1 this morning)

Ben Wishaw 10/1

Rusell Tovey 14/1

Rhys Ifans 16/1

David Morrisey 20/1

Billie Piper 20/1

James Nesbitt 20/1

Tom Chambers 25/1

John Simms 25/1

33/1 Bar

If it is Matt Smith then I'm not going to be a happy chappy come this time tomorrow, as it would mean they've gone for the youngest ever Doctor (aged 26) with plenty of good looks to keep the females happy but acting wise he is too reminiscent of a Hollyoaks actor for my liking to play the part of the Doctor. Patterson Joseph would have been a vastly superior choice IMHO.

So fingers crossed it is Patterson Joseph & Matt Smith is a plausible 11th hour decoy spoiler (i.e. RTD & the crew are having a laugh at the internet anorak fans expense), so that most Who-ovians can raise a huge sigh of relief when Patterson is announced tomorrow.

Matt Smith who  never heard of him in my life.

To be honest I'm swaying to Patterson Joseph he would be my ideal choice for the Dr. Who role, it will bring a fresh new scope on the Dr. Who franchsie and if its James Nexbitt I will scream, I really hate him.

Actually I have never heard of this 3 either

Chiwetel Ejiofor "WHO"

Ben Wishaw "WHO"

Rusell Tovey "WHO"

Tovey is that guy who was in the Christmas special last year, and is also the lead actor in Being Human which starts on BBC3 v.soon iirc.

Chiwetel Ejiofor played Othello opposite Ewan McGregor, and he's also been in quite a few well known films and TV series (although in America). No idea about the other guy though.

I am glad about Matt Smith tbh if it is him

Without meaning it in a racist way it is only appropriate given tradition that Dr Who be played by a white male

I think it is safe to say you'd fail the Diversity part of the National Vocational Qualifications Government training skill awards.

If the guy had the acting ability of Robert Carlyle, David Morrisey (I now accept the Who-ovian viewpoint that he was deliberately acting non Timelord-ish for impact in the context of the storyline - Which worked although I was very disappointed at the time), Dextor Fletcher, Sean Pertwee, Jack Davenport, Christopher Eccleston or David Tennant, but his casting has the potential to be an absolute disaster because the two shows I've seen him act opposite Billie Piper in he has not got the ability to pull off the role IMHO.

It would be like hiring Alexandra Burke to play Aretha Franklin in a musical = a casting disaster.

I'm putting my faith in that this is a deliberate red herring spread across the internet & media to ensure a bit of surprise/relief when the excellent Patterson Joseph is appointed.

As I've said before I could not give two $h1ts what skin colour or sex the character of the Doctor is, so long as they have the acting ability to pull off the role. From the evidence I've seen him in Matt Smith does not possess those skills.

I be very happy if Kylie decided to play the first female Dr. :D just when the Daleks are about to pounce, she can sing "I Should Be So Lucky" :heehee:
I dunno whether it's likely to be Smith? From what i've heard about Moffat he doesn't seem the type to cast the youngest Doctor ever for his serve as executive producer. Could be wrong but I don't see it personally.
I'm surprised Sean Pertwee was never considered for the role, considering the link to his father, he did have a minor role as a guest actor in one of David's episode, surely because he had a minor role he could still had a shoe in, since John Simm is one of the candidates in the above list.
the BBC have said it 'could be a woman'. Although that's probably just to wind the fanboys up
