TELL ME Yolande isn't still to come? She stopped being fun long before she left. :( Somehow she turned from free spirit to queen of the sours...

Loving the 'yeah mon' observation. It's always accompanied by a very hood click of fingers too. It's a shame in a way that they stereotype him like that because he has moments where he's really interesting, and they let those moments down. I also find that Rupert has a very old-school approach to acting in some ways; it comes off more forced than natural...

You mean Rudolph not Rupert surely? I agree, he can be a very watchable character. I remember quite enjoying it when he went mad and tried to start a campaign up against Andy Hunter for killing Paul. But unfortunately most of the time they're happy to just have Patrick playing the hammy stereotype, and unfortunately Rudolph Walker is all too happy to oblige most of the time.

Yolande had unfortunately taken her leave before the rate took place :(

You need to do one of these for Hollyoaks after this has finished - I'll come back in November to see how we're getting on :P

I REALLY hope people didn't vote for Stacey to win because that would make me want to p*** on my own foot. She is SO miserable, her mouth is just the most ugly thing on TV (even more so than Garry for crying out loud!) I wanted Tiffany to win but seeing as that's out then it has to be Jean for me :D

If I were to do another; Hollyoaks seems to be the next most popular show here. But I'm not sure there'd be enough interest. We got less than 20 votes for Eastenders, and it attracts far more posters than Hollyoaks...

Also I'd have problems with finding appropriate pictures, for the most part they'd simply alternate between dim-witted blondes and pictures of planks of wood.

4 male charcters to go then. I like Patrick but i dont like that he's now part of the Fox family and the axing of Yolande alone was strange and un-needed, they might as well have axed the pair of them.

I have to admit I find it a bit odd that the Foxes have set up home with Patrick. Although Patrick and Yolande were close to them, they were always closer to Pat. I understand that perhaps they needed to make way for the return of Bianca and her flock, but still...sometimes it feels like the scriptwriters just threw their hands in their area and said "let's just lump all the ethnics together and have done"...

I get what people are saying about Yolande becoming a pouting trout in the last couple of years (pretty much since the Pat/Patrick affair if I remember right). But I still maintain that there was no reason the scriptwriters couldn't have gradually pulled Yolande back from the brink and brought back the fun and colour again. It's not as if EE has lots in abundance anyway. More than most of the characters who have left in the past few years, Yolande really was a wasted opportunity.

yolande could have indeed have been pulled back to her oroginal joyful charactor but it looks like the scriptwriters etc cudnt be bothered, on saying that i wonder who first comes up with the idea of axing a charactor is it the script writers or the executive producer at the time?
Yeap and the whole Is Patrick Denise's father storyline did seem like an excuse to get all the ethnic charcters together.
Is Janine going to feature? She's my current fav character so if she does, hope she places high!

Unfortunately Janine won't be featuring (I think she'd have walked #1 if she has been though), the voting actually took place before her comeback. I have just been exceedingly slow at posting the results (as has been helpfully pointed out by numerous posters throughout the thread).

24. Chelsea Fox (5.65)

One of Patrick's aforementioned random new "family" members. Chelsea Fox is perhaps the Square's most ineffective slapper in the history of the show. Nearly every Chelsea scene involves her giving some random bloke "the eye" only to get knocked back. Never has someone so desperate had it so little on TV.

Chelsea's done reasonably well in this rate, but I have to confess, right now I'm struggling to give a toss about her. I don't know if it's because her character has been left to rot storyless for so long or what. But this whole will-they-won't-they with this Theo...I just don't care. Is something wrong with me?

No, I don't care either. I think it's because it doesn't feel like either Chelsea or Theo actually care either. One second Chelsea's panicking about not being called back and the next she's ready to drop him. He claims to really care about her but he doesn't bother getting in touch. He's not a bad character but he shouldn't have been lumped with Chelsea just because they're both black. Chelsea's a good character too but her storylines are never properly developed, like the coke thing. Total waste. She's wasted potential basically.

^ This is all very true. I'm glad someone explained my seemingly irrational indifference to me. It's "Lump The Ethnics Together" AGAIN. It's also painfully obvious the writers are going to pair her up with Theo properly at some point, so I guess there's no real reason to care about all the tantrums and hissy fits in between.

Eastenders is really feeling the strain of not having any females in their early 20s I think. The only one is Dawn, and she's lumped in with the over-40s now anyway, now that all of her scenes involve Garry, Minty, Manda etc. I really liked the dynamic between Shabnam and Dawn - it's quite a shame Shab left - and it'd be nice if Carly was still around (though I know most won't agree), but I guess she'd have no reason to be. They need a couple of new twenty-year-old girls, best friends who stick together and parade around the square whilst men oggle and women tut.

^ This is also true, another problem with Chelsea's character. There's just NO-ONE for her to interact with outside of her family. The only other one slightly near her age is Stacey, but it's unlikely they'd become friends given the fiasco with Sean.
Chelsea's alright I suppose. I can never decide whether shes a good actress or a bad one though  I differ between the two at times. I quite liked her in the Owen storyline though.
Chelsea is amazing at times but i agree she really does need some people her own age, she had Preeti but she left.

Oh God, I'd totally forgotten about Preeti...she's not still in the show is she? Where did she go? I forget?

She was indeed.

23. Dawn Swann (5.82)

Does anybody here REALLY find the Dawn/Garry partnership believable? Yes, Dawn has been through the mill a bit recently, but are we seriously expected to believe that a young glamourpuss shopaholic has suddenly found the love of her life in a chubby, balding 40 year old bum? Hmmm...

Dawn was pretty much a waste of space for her first couple of years; immensly dislikable with no significant backstory to make the viewer care for her. And then suddenly...MAD MAY. Glorious MAD MAY. The Mad May saga SAVED Dawn as a character. Despite initially being a homewrecking slag, you actually ended up feeling sorry for Dawn as she lay tied up on a kitchen table with May preparing to cut the baby out of her stomach. The whole thing was absolute genius.

And then again with Jase's death on their wedding day and Jay screaming about it all being Dawn's fault...it was all heartbreaking to watch. Dawn was becoming an essential character.

So it's a shame to see the EE writers have now sucked the life out of her and turned into a miserable dullard now firmly linked to the resident loser crowd. On the other hand though, I do also think Kara Tointon LOOKS a LOT prettier now she's no longer required to dress as a teenage slag.

I can't believe I've only just seen this! :o

Brilliant pictures and commentaries ^_^

Dawn's old hairdo, back when she thought she was going to become Walford's Next Top Model, was absolutely horrific. Chavtastic. That aside I think she's a wonderful character! Youthful and charismatic with a big heart. I do agree about her and Garry not being entirely believable but at the same time they sort of patched her change of heart into the story quite cleverly; it taking Garry's 'death' for her to see that she did love him. Overall, it'd be a big shame if she were to go. Which she is, of course. :(

Oh, and even though she's lumped in with All The Single Losers now, Eastenders have done very well in transitioning her from family to family - first her own, awful family, then Jay and Jase, and now said losers. Amusing that she has such little contact with Darren though. :heehee:
