Neither of you are correct.

Blazing Rob; Janine was not actually part of the cast when the rate took place; it's just taken me half a year to get going with the results!

Jark; Lucy was lost a LONG time ago; #44

Well we've finally reached the halfway point, who'd have thought after 6 months? HURRAH.

28. Tony King (5.12)

I'm not sure whether I should find it disturbing that Buzzjack has rated a paedophile in the top half of the countdown. I'm going to assume that rather for any dubious reasons, it's because Tony was part of a surprisingly well done storyline. The first proper plot for the Jackson clan since their return, it showed there was going to be more to them than those dreadful Jackson 5 karaoke adverts (which were easily the worst thing ever). It saved them really.

28. Winston the Stallholder (5.12)

Now let's be honest, is there REALLY that much to choose between Winston the Stallholder and Tracy the Barmaid? Both have been on the show for aeons and both have uttered only two lines of dialogue in their entire time there. And both should really be #1 and #2 on this countdown AND awarded knighthoods for putting up with being an extra whilst no-marks like Callum Monks, the Ferreiras and Gus were all being awarded full-time star status. That must have hurt.

The only difference between the two really is one has a penis, the other a vagina. So here is where we have an interesting little experiment. How much more popular can someone be with Buzzjack, purely for owning a vagina? Let's see...

OMG Tony :o

No way! Thats shocking!

Glad Winston is in! Have I missed Tracy or is she still to come?

I'm sure Winston has a heart of gold but he looks slightly too much like a 1980s cockney sparra jack the lad who should really have had a minor role in Only Fools And Horses for MY LIKING. Fun experiment though. I predict Tracey will come in at 21, her age.

Is that not the intention with Winston though? There are plenty of characters who have been on EE who could have fitted in perfectly well with Del Boy. They're in fact an EE speciality. Mickey? Mo? Juley? Alfie Moon?

I'm shocked anyone still remembers Juley! I suppose, but it's a fairly monsterous character type, Mo excepted.

Some characters are so monstrously forgettable that they become unforgettable. The Ferreiras became notorious for it.
I never quite got the deal with the Ferreiras. They weren't that bad were they? The middle (?) guy and the girl were both reasonable lookers too. All that was really wrong with them was that their dad disappeared when the actor was deported and it was explained on the show in the crappest possible way (ie he did a runner) but the way people rant about them you'd think they were a clan of miniature Stalins or something. :( Poor Louise Berridge.

To be fair to the Ferreiras it went wrong and it had nothing to do with the actors,at that stage the show was going through a bad time, cast members were leaving others on maternity/sick leave etc then their father in real life had some deportaion troubles and on screen just diseapered,i think the original storyline was one them was going to murder him, again the kiney transplant stryline was planned but was planned as in a short storyline but with so many actors out of the show they had to strectch it out to cover screen time,

Louise Berridge i dont really have much sympathy for as if i remember correctly she didnt get on with alot of the cast and was very stubborn in her approach to the show

To be fair no, the Ferrieras weren't quite the league of the Anti-Christ that we were lead to be. They just weren't really given properly developed storylines.

The Father Ferreira/Boy Ferreira/Neighbour Shirley love triangle could have been a good plot, but it was just thrown around in the background like some sort of comedy filler.

But they did become the media scapegoat for EE's poor period.

Ahaha, you just reminded me of Shirley. Bless her, all she wanted was for the neighbour to turn the music down but he killed her cat and put her phone number in a phone box as a prostitute ad instead. :(

She certainly provided me with unintentional comedy. I have a signed photo of her and even a little message on the back, she obviously didn't get much fanmail.

Shirley Mark I was indeed unintentional comedy genius. I was genuinely devastated when she left. What happened to the noisy neighbour?

Shirley Benson signed photos are going for 99p on eBay at the mo.

As was I. :( I seem to recall her having a protest against Andy Hunter after he fired her or something, then he paid her to go away. Can't really remember how they got rid of the neighbour, I think it involved the Ferreiras scaring him away only to find out he had covered their clothing stock in paint before leaving.

 I got mine for free. Mine is better anyway for the message on the back. It's got something like "I'm leaving, but if you want Shirley back you can always start a campaign on the web!!" on it which always makes me go 'aww'. As if they'd bring such a nobody back. :heehee:

I think I remember the Andy Hunter protest....

Oh BLESS her. Another stellar Robyn Moore quote...

What was initially just a short contract was extended and they gave me quite a few interesting storylines; the neighbour from hell, I had an affair with the Asian family’s dad, then the Son and then the dad found out! All very dramatic.

I think what people liked about her was that she took the knocks but refused to play the victim, she had a lot of dignity and pride. Unfortunately, as happens so often to popular characters in soaps, they gave her too many crises and breakdowns to be credible and it became incredibly hard to play. It was exacerbated by the fact that you constantly have different directors and they all want the full on tears and hair tearing.

It's lovely to see her put a positive spin on it all, even if she's only kidding herself.

Stories that were clearly so interesting, she can only remember them as "the Asian family".

To be fair, she did have too many slightly ridiculous storylines involving her being down on her luck and it didn't give the character any credibility. It was hard to take her seriously. Then again, this is a show that's had Billy Mitchell as a regular for 10 years. The difference being is that people (used to?) care about the character.

Bless her for thinking she was a popular character though. In the grand scheme of things she has been forgotten about and made no lasting impact on the show. (even I nearly forgot about her) The only memorable Shirley from the show is yet to come on this countdown...

I think the difference with Billy is he was given enough comedy and enough "nice" scenes (particularly with Little Mo) to make an impression on us and become a balanced character. Shirley was given NOTHING but misery. I have to admit I also often wasn't sure if she was a regular or an extra.

Do you know what, I think we SHOULD have that campaign for her after all.

I had completly forgotten about her til she was mentioned here, a charactor like that would never be brought back as she didnt really become a talking point for the show,

Precisely, she wasn't given enough decent storylines for us to care about her (and it doesn't help that the few of the happier storylines she got were with the family oftened singled out as the worst in the history of the show for no apparent reason)

We should, I think they might listen when two people (maybe one, I might be washing my hair) march to their studios with a whole TWO signatures on their petition.

But sometimes those "sleeper" characters go on to become the best...

Jane for example was pretty much just a supporting character for Ian for her first couple of years.
